This is asked/reported often, so to block users from pm'ing you, go to profile, personal message options. You can add names there, or * to block all pm's. This is a separate function from ignoring a user's posts, one doesn't affect the other.

It would be useful if the Ignore link next to each post added that member to the Ignore PM list in addition to the Ignore User list. When someone wants to ignore a particular members posts they usually want to ignore their PMs too.
They might not as well. I think it's a good idea to keep them separate.

This helped me a lot, didn't realise until a few days how to block PM's from users and block seeing their posts.

unsolicited pm's are frowned on. when you get to selling stuff, people will soon show their love

When someone tries to send a private message to someone who has blocked them, do they know if their message will go through or not?

I think they get a red font message "User <user> has blocked your personal message." IIRC.

Yeah there is a message, I don't remember what exactly it says, pretty close to what malevolent posted.

Can there also be a function that when you ignore a user, they can't post in your moderated thread?

I was thinking maybe it would be a good idea if you could ban certain people from posting in your own self-moderated threads. Would save people deleting posts from persistent trolls.

Yes, please implement this. The only privilege to a self-moderated thread is deleting posts. You can't edit other people's posts (which is understandable), move posts, or ban a user from the thread. Deleting posts from trolls is pointless because they'll just keep posting the same deleted post again.

Deleting posts from trolls is pointless because they'll just keep posting the same deleted post again. On top of that, the self-moderated thread creator should be able to set a minimum activity level to post in the thread (so to stop people registering new accounts to post in it).
