I know that the father was probably arrested because he is a guy and he went gambling. Else, I have seen moms who do same thing only to give the reason of going out to get food or buy something from the market or superstore.
This is still as bad as leaving a kid alone in a car with no adults in the car. It's an offense and it might result in a heavy fine.

that actually may be true, i would say, it was not the first time to happen. because for sure, he did that before but maybe just few or couple of hours. but this time, about 5 hours? that's really terrible for the kids considering the age. they should always be under supervision of an adult. i guess, this man is a gambling addict exchanging the welfare of his kids with his gambling desires. the wife should think twice now on their situation.

also, if you are the man in the situation, why not think of other options how you can leave your kids without subjecting them to danger.
these are just few options for you -

If you look at the situation told by the OP about a father who is willing to leave his toddler son just to go to the casino to gamble then I think the level of addiction of this person is really at a chronic level which means it is very severe, as we know that gamblers who are addicted usually they don't think about anything and often do things that are out of control or don't make sense rationally and are desperate to do anything just to realize their desire to gamble, like the man described above, in my opinion this is really an unexpected event that is worrying.

Basically anyone is free to gamble if they really have money to bet but if the situation is not favorable then it is clearly better to postpone your desire to gamble, anyway there are still other times that we can use, do not let something more important in our lives just disappear like a child who was abandoned by the man just to gamble. I would say the same thing on which that if it turns out that this time he got caught. It is really just that to those children are really that too pity on the suffering that they are experiencing.
They should really be that having that supervision from their parents on which it is really just that normal that they would really be checking their kids.

This is a typical example of gambling for the money sake and not for fun because what kind of fun will be greater than the fun of having kids that you now leave them to their own fate for 5 hours. When I started reading the OP thread, I was thinking that this was going to be some exaggerated story of hearsay from a torn up country...
Instead it was a very real case of neglect from the United States of A'...

It's very weird to see such people having kids honestly. And also anything related to gambling shouldn't be mixed with kids. It feels very weird to hear anything about children here.
So people trying to mix their parenting with gambling naturally are going to end up in very awkward situations.
I'm glad that person got booked for a crime and congrats for U.S. police not letting that slide.

Just like some other people have already said, the action of the man clearly shows that he is already a gambling addict or has the symptoms. He did not even consider that the children could accidentally ingage in something that could take their lives.

I still remember a woman in my country who left her two-year-old son in the room just for twenty minutes and went to take her barth, but when she returned, the baby was lying lifeless on the ground. The baby consumed drugs that the woman carelessly kept within reach of the baby. They couldn't blame her enough; even after rushing the baby to the hospital, he was dead already, and nothing could be done.

Pretty sure you can't blame gambling on this one, and the guy's already had histories of being very abusive and self-centered that he's willing to leave his kids with no food or supervision to indulge himself.
