It is a general believe in the cryptocurrency community that Bitcoin bull season is usually followed by altcoins season. I don't know the logic behind it hence the reason for this post. The present bull run seems to be dominated by Bitcoin and its already taking too long without corresponding rise in price among the notable altcoins.

Normally it sequence like that. But to answer on which altcoins are gonna fired up during alt season is unknown. Well we may see another ATH for previous coins or tokens or not. But definitely its good to watch new tokens that never experience bull run yet. Maybe we can see some of them reaching a new ATH in the process.

To understand a market, you would have to understand the people behind it.

Trends in the market, whether upwards or downwards, are usually caused by the activities of investors. If the investors deem the coin worthy of value then they will acquire the coin thus decreasing its supply while hiking its value even more. The lesser supply there is, the more demand the people has for a coin thus the higher value it will have. Now, as you know, people are usually attracted to what is currently trending and do not like the feeling of being left out. They will soon experience FOMO or fear of missing out.

Once FOMO hits, they start buying coins.

Now once bitcoin gets most of its investors holding in their coins, decreasing the supply and increasing the price, some investors might try and risk buying altcoins. Why? Because they are hoping to achieve the same performance bitcoin has. Seeing as bitcoin is the standard cryptocurrency, everything related to it would be perceived as something connected to the entire market. It is the sentiment that if bitcoin is doing well then the other altcoins might be doing as good or even better.

Of course it is all theory and a coin’s performance is still down to the individual coin.

You just don't see the other altcoins spiking and that's why you've said that there's no notable move for the altcoins. The bull season is always being led by Bitcoin.

And that's not going to change and if the altcoin season comes, that's likely we'll never know when it will start. It can be before Bitcoin's run, at the mid or at the end of it.

The market changes and so as the altcoin season. Like right now, there are altcoins that are pumping but still many haven't and we don't know if that many will be.

The logic is trends and names that are known to the public. We know that Bitcoin has been very high in 2021 and this has really shaken the world.  Many people with deep wallets were amazed by what Bitcoin was experiencing and decided to take advantage of it.  I think at that time it was the hottest conversation about Bitcoin anywhere.

When bitcoin rise, the crypto world became busy and many investors invested their money in crypto.  For small investors, they need a lot of money to hold on to bitcoin.  They will certainly choose more affordable Altcoins.  Of course they still choose the top rating after Bitcoin.  People will look for information on the potential that big coins have and make investments so that it can cause Altcoins to also rise.

So, if you want to, then you should.  Choose a high Altcoin and do analysis on that coin.  I won't mention it at all, because you can find out for yourself which one is the best.

There should be a new alt which does something different than the others. When ETH started the alt season, it was he ICO's that fueled the hype. Then NFT's came out but NFT's were stupid so people didn't really like it much. If the devs can't come up with a new idea that solves a real world problem, then it means there is an altcoin for every problem out there and it also means the markets are established now. You can't move an established market easily. Look at gold for example, it barely moves because the gold market is a 1000 years old market. There should be a new hype and it should bring something new to the table. Only then, the alts will moon once again.

In my opinion it's a combination of several factors, most have already been mentioned:

- First, "bull run exhaustion" in the case of Bitcoin, see @btc78's post. Sideways BTC stretches in a mid-term bullish move lead often to "retail gambling" with alts. From experience, altcoin seasons are frequent 1) near the start of the bull run, 2) in temporary bearish phases (e.g. those corrections known as "Elliott wave 2 and 4") and 3) near the end of the bull run. I think the first phase already has concluded. Solana for example made already phenomenal profits if we look at the performance since early 2023.
- Second, appearance of new altcoins or altcoin/NFT trends, like @mindrust wrote. This is more difficult to predict, but often if a trend "just catches on", it's difficult to stop it for a while, so if everybody is talking about a trend but it hasn't been around still for a long time, those investing fast can sometimes (!) get high profits.

But there are more:

People have a tendency to project past price movements into the future, which is one of the few orientation options in the volatile crypto market. So they see for example that coins like SOL or AVAX had much higher ATHs in the past (often 2021-22) but then crashed 90-95% in the last bear market. So there seems to be a world full of opportunities.

Now of course some do their homework and thus know that often altcoins will never reach their old ATHs again, see coins like Namecoin or Dash for example. But in other cases there seem to be reasons for the coins to see a sustainable growth. For example, on SOL and AVAX which I mentioned, are supported by many projects which originally come from Ethereum (e.g. Tether), due to their lower transaction fees. These coins also attract people which aren't only short term gambling but invest more "seriously".

This is also a partial answer to the question:

what are the best altcoins to focus on?

I am personally not very fond of highly centralized coins like SOL, TRX, AVAX, but the "Ethereum killer" market could be a solid option for coins which could outperform Bitcoin.

Generally, there are three groups to focus on:

- "solid coins" like Ethereum, which however may underperform Bitcoin.
- possibly "undervalued" coins which were bigger in the past. Here, as I wrote, one has to look at the fundamentals - are these coins really being used, e,g, as smart contract platforms or "payment coins"? Then it may be an opportunity.
- "new hypecoins". Discovering these is difficult but sometimes possible.

In general however I think in this bull run Bitcoin will have a stronger performance in comparison to altcoins than in some past bull runs. The reason is that the ETFs can attract a completely new class of capital.

There are several causal factors regarding the altcoin season, of course, influenced by investor / trading activity or trends that are happening now because ahead of the halving which is bullish, people are preparing for it and they already know when this will arrive but specifically this is not certain when the time is but we know now that altcoins have started to rise.

You ask altcoins are good to focus on? We don't have that answer, you have to analyze yourself not ask others then each individual has a different view.

Bitcoin usually grows first, and when its growth slows down, everyone starts investing in altcoins, that's when their growth begins. I've seen it 2 times, but to be honest, the market is behaving very differently today and it's not clear what to expect in the future. Seems fair, this pattern is already here even in previous bull seasons.
But before this will happen, I am expecting Bitcoin will outperform first altcoins, what I mean outperform is , we will see huge pumps for Bitcoin but for altcoins, they can go sideways and wait for Bitcoin to become stable.

Most people, if not all, pretty much correlate the altcoin season with the Bitcoin bull season mostly due to similar such events happening in the past. It's like big daddy suddenly got a raise so the kids are able to grab some good food outside.

As for altcoins performing subpar compared to the past, there are already some coins up by 10% the past week, similar to what Bitcoin had. You're most probably more concerned about the specific altcoins you're holding than the ones that actually had growth. An altcoin season doesn't mean that all altcoins would pump up, it's just the more noticeable ones that would.

The safest bet for what to buy would naturally be ETH and other similar well-performing altcoins that are already well known. If you want to explore, then look for some coins that create a new or unique idea, like how NFTs were when they were introduced. Pretty hard to be on the lookout but hey, that's par for the course.

The altcoin season occurs when market prices start to rise or the altcoin season is very intense. Maybe altcoin season will come but as you said, of course not now. I guess there is a high possibility that Q3 and Q4 will start the altcoin season. Now that Bitcoin's special event halving is approaching, most of us are expecting bigger players to join bitcoin, now will be the time for ETF institutional investors to fight for their position. highest position for them. Altcoins often rises after bitcoin because rising bitcoin is bringing belief and trust back in markets.
But altcoin season doesn't mean all altcoins would rise, or that all high marketcap altcoins would rise. Just take a look few years back on the charts and you see that most of the top coins are not there anymore. Altcoin season simply means that more money flows into altcoins, because people start to trust crypto markets and see more rising potential elsewhere as they feel they have missed the btc train.

Do you know that almost all the reputable altcoin are being traded and paired with bitcoin in most of the popular exchanges and to my reasoning when a trader is trading and noticed a sudden increase in bitcoin it will calls for a change in price in other altcoin meaning the trader would change it's price (maker/taker) at this point it's gradually giving some push to altcoin. But there may be other principles that is controlling the market i might not know, the only thing possible which most people reference at is bitcoin movement.

just need to wait for how the price of bitcoin moves, wait for bitcoin dominance to decrease and the price of bitcoin to stabilize. This will be a great altcoin moment in my opinion. owning and holding top altcoins from now on will provide multiple returns. Don't waste the opportunity that only comes when the halving occurs and this opportunity needs to be maximized. use your spare cash to start buying before bitcoin and altcoins reach a new ATH.
