Why do some people hide to gamble

I was walking down my street this evening I saw some group of guys in a hidden corner of an uncompleted building playing WHOT games ordinarily I felt they are just spending usual time as friends and that they are playing the WHOT game to keep themselves busy while discussing.

But when I got closer to them I discovered that there was a dirty container close to them and inside the container is money they bet for the game they are playing , and if not careful observed you will never believe that they are playing bet games .

My curiosity led me closer to them I was interacting with one of them and at same time observing what they are doing , one thing I observed was that they stake with huge amount and they don’t give you change even when your money requires change instead you will use it and bet for another round.

So at this point I decided to bring it here to know or see different views from different intellects here on why do some people hide just to gamble or if it is the best way to gamble ?.

I know the reason why people hide their gambling activities since its either their environment where they currently belong doesn't accept this activity and take this as heavy sin or they don't want to influence other people to gamble to since they just want to face to consequences of all the actions done so people choose to hide their activity and don't tell this to anyone.

But if everything is open in their side and no people will criticize them towards the decision then also the activity they choose for sure gambler will not hide their activity since nobody like to sneak just to gamble since its stressful for hiding our activities since we don't want to be seen by those people who is not open minded on gambling activities and its consequences.

that's true, because there are countries that don't legalize gambling, and those who gamble in secret may be one of the factors because of this, now if they live in a country where gambling is prohibited, and when they are found out by the government maybe they will get into trouble because it has violated the law established by the state. because in my opinion gambling can destroy someone's life, but it is also because of their own fault for gambling excessively.
but the fact is that gambling is very tempting, so even though it is said that gambling is prohibited, there are still people who gamble secretly and clandestinely, this cannot be denied. I am sure this happens in countries that do not legalize gambling.

Here in PH, there are a lot of prohibited gambling activities going on in private places like inside a residence. These people usually play Mahjong and Chinese poker. These are the kind of activities that are considered underground gambling events and these are being seized by the authorities. However, the police aren't so strict with these policies and aren't so active in catching these kind of gambling activities. so these has become rampant overtime.
This is one of the reason why some gamblers are hiding or keeping in a secret so that authorities won't get a hint about there whereabouts. These gamblers may not also tell their family members about the venue to avoid
getting exposed very open publicly.
These kind of gambling is one of the leading reason about family problems in the country, as they often operate 24/7. A person may walk in with full of cash today and get home on the other day or two with empty pocket.

I would not say that they are hiding, but they need a quite and lonely place which will enable them enjoy gambling, and so that there will be no distraction from people. When playing card games, it needs total concentration, and I think that was why they went to isolate themselves in that uncompleted building.

Another reason might be that they decide to hide the or gambling activities from the public, so that people will not call them irresponsible, as that is the name people tag all gamblers. Down here gambling is done sometimes in secret, it is not everyone that love exposing themselves as gamblers.

It is very obvious that the gambling you are referring to is a physical gambling were two people or group of people bet among themselves. The reason why they hide is not far from same reason as I explained which is they don't want people to notice that they are playing gambling because they will see them as wayward people too but I don't encourage this physical gambling because I know the kind of fights and arguments that mostly occurs in this type of gambling so it is not advisable to get physical with gambling just to avoid some embarrassment and quarrels among one another.

In some countries like mine, this WHOT game has been known to be illegal gambling, and a lot of people have been arrested when caught, so those people really need to hide.
 
While playing the game, it's not something they can bring out in the open; unless they are just playing the WHOT game without adding any money as a bet on it, they can play it publicly.

Most of the time people hide because they are doing something illegal, they are afraid of being arrested so they hide. and I believe that this is the case with these people in your country. There is also the privacy side, there are many cases in which a person takes money and spends it and the other people who live with him are constantly asking him where he spends the money and how does he know that if he says the place where he spends money People will criticize him, so he prefers to play it hidden and doesn't say anything to anyone. The problem with this type of bad attitude is that he will be participating in something illegal that when the police catch him playing he will be immediately arrested. Then there is also the side that he may be addicted and in this case the addiction will be on a greater level because no one suspects that he is addicted and consequently he will be treated too late.

In some countries like mine, this WHOT game has been known to be illegal gambling, and a lot of people have been arrested when caught, so those people really need to hide.

In my country it is also illegal to gamble on the streets and bet money, but if people in my country are playing in physical and online casinos, then it is legal. There's no problem with that. at least from what I can see in my country, on any street there are lottery tickets sold, on any street it is easy to see slot machines, there are many local sports betting sites in my country, there are many physical casinos in my country and Most people I see place sports bets and play. So in the case of my country, people don't need to gamble secretly or break the laws because the government of my country is gambling-friendly. Now in countries where religion is the law, then gambling is prohibited, people will gamble in secret because they fear criticism and punishment.

The fact that some people have a different perception of gambling that could be the reason why they hide to gamble. In some areas in my country, gamblers are seen as some kind of weird people who take part in bad acts but while it's actually not bad but the ideology of the people around is that gamblers are bad people so when some people who gambles wants to do it they kind of hide to do it not that people hide to gamble.

I have seen people gambling online casinos while travelling in a public vehicle but because it's not seen as a bad act over there it's normal for them but in some areas where it's not too acceptable then the gamblers have to hide to do what they love.

If they are playing offline in a risky place, I can imagine someone will report them and the police will arrest people, but what will they do if they pivot the money to overseas casinos? Even if the banks can track the money, I'd imagine they don't necessarily need to report the users unless the transaction's value is really big.

I do know one or two gambling spots in my area. Most of the players don't seem to be ashamed when they visit them, even though it is illegal if we look at the regulations. I wouldn't be surprised if the police are involved in one way or another judging from how they behave.

With my experiences on such scenarios, it is either those guys are underaged and restricted to playing games that involves stakes of money.
It is mostly acts of parental guidance so that the kids don't grow up gambling irresponsibly or they are not being distracted from schools or how the parents want them to grow.

So acts like that is also on a fact that the people in the environment would always find anyone who gambles as Irresponsible persons so they chooses to hide and keep off from being observed that they are gambling.

Physical casinos are found in countries where casinos are legal so no legal action is taken against those who go there to gamble. But you won't find physical casinos in countries where gambling is illegal. I think it will also wrong that all peoples in all over the world have hide when they gambling because if you look at the western , euoropes countries then you find that there was not big deal when they playing gambling. There can be many reasons for that, maybe their region or society is not gambling-friendly for that and maybe your closing on them makes uncomfortable. And I also think there is a also privacy concerns because it is also about the money not only for fun.  In my country doing gambling is illegal so it is also make players uncomfortable for playing gambling in public places.

There are several reasons:
- illegal organization of gambling due to the lack of a license or a complete ban on gambling in certain countries;

Why do some people hide to gamble ? there so many reason behind it I mean in country like Indonesia Gambling is illegal so it is better to you hide it from the public and there is bad judgement for the public also this is the reason in my country but there are also other reason like Shame and Embarrassment: because you know this is gambling maybe he/she don't want it play publicly, Maintaining Relationships: Individuals may hide their gambling to protect their relationships with family and friends.

You are right. Only those who are restricted by law, religion or societal norm and even family will hide their gambling activities from the public in such a manner. And it gets me wondering the essence of restricting people from gambling when they will still hide to gamble both online and offline?Hiding one's gambling activities from the public is not a good sign as it might generate into an addiction if the gambler loses control over his gambling habit as gambling activities done in hidden places are grossly not regulated. The gamblers involved can go to any length to gamble as long as they are not caught in the act. because indeed some people and the majority of society have a bad view of gambling so they are not happy with people who gamble or with the gambling activities they do. Also in my opinion, they have a bad view of gambling because there have been many cases of gambling addiction that have destroyed their lives, it's just that they might think that what made their lives ruined was gambling, whereas it was the fault of each individual who responded wrongly. gambling so that they gamble beyond normal limits.

You’ve got a solid point there. The stigma around gambling definitely pushes a lot of folks to keep their activities under wraps.
