We live in a society where people have different views about something and these views could be drawn based on different constituent like personal sentiment, religion, ideology and experience. And speaking of gamble there are those that view it as an irresponsible activity to embark on and whoever is into it is tag as irresponsible guy, for some it beyond being irresponsible but a sin something that is evil,  while some others out of an ugly experience of a loved one that got ruined by it due to extreme addiction.

These factors has made a number of gamblers to keep their gambling habit a secret doing all they could not to let friends and family  know they gamble. And it does seem like they ain't proud of what they're doing.

But why continue in what you're not proud of by keeping it secret cause maybe you're worried about what people may say, how their thoughts about your person might change. Or how you might loose ties with someone you hold dear to. And many other reasons that follows.

No one give I dim to what people are saying or feels,  most times all those thoughts and discriminations are only self afflicted and only exist in your head so at that you should focus on doing what makes you happy and leave people to say or feel whatever their wish to,  it has nothing to do with you unless if you are involved in something illegal that is when you have authority/government that could ask you questions.

But apart from that,  if gambling is legal in your jurisdiction and you are happy gambling then I will say you can gamble with all pride because no one care about what you do and even if they do,  you are the one directly involved and you know what comes into your hand through gambling,  but in all we must do that in moderation.

You do have to keep it if you're so insecure about your habit and you care too much about what people say, I say let them judge you, you're living on their heads rent-free, don't you want that? People waste their time talking shit about you? It's not like their words will be a problem for you. And also, keeping your habit known means that when it becomes an addiction, people can intervene and help you. I can give you an example of why you shouldn't keep your habits especially the destructive ones a secret, Hillel Slovak and Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers are both heroin junkies but Hillel wasn't as open to his habit unlike Anthony and so he's mostly alone when he scores which ended his life due to an overdose and with no help around him, he passed away.

Sometimes the society dictates it to have it as a secret.For example in Saudi Arabia gambling is not allowed as it is considered a major sin but yet many people with VPN-s as with normal ISP-s there they can't,they gamble and they do not tell anyone.There is no real danger in telling there as if you are not caught red handed while gambling no one can harm you but why tell people something that in a specific country is considered as a major sin.

Let's talk now in Europe,more liberal society than Saudi Arabia yet in here in 90% of countries if someone is seen gambling,deep inside the people have no real respect for that person and see it as some stupid or irresponsible person,so overall it is the same in all countries,gambling is not seen with a good eye.

Although I'm a gambler, I can control myself and I know gambling for entertain, but when I meet a new people or my friend who's also a gambler, it make me feel not interested to get close with them. Maybe they're not proud because they're spending their rent money? Or maybe they are spending the money that was going to buy food for the week for their house. Usually there is a reason for a person to feel shame. As long as it's not against your religion and you have the extra money to spend, you shouldn't feel shame.

Everyone has a different perspective on gambling, even a gambler himself also has a different perspective and goals regarding gambling, that's why most gamblers always keep the gambling activities that are carried out secret.
You are right to keep gambling a secret from everyone even though these people are also gamblers because when there are other gamblers who know you are also gamblers and often join or gather together while one of them commits a crime then you yourself can also be dragged into the case because you belong to one sphere or group of those people.
In the country where I live, gambling is strictly prohibited and there were several cases where a young man committed the crime of theft to make money so he could play slots, but unfortunately the young man was caught and several of his friends who did not know about this were brought to justice because they have participated in eating the money from the theft and winnings from the slot games that were carried out.

There's nothing to be ashamed about gambling as long as you have the financial capacity to sustain that habit. I don't think gambling with enough money is irresponsible. But one should be ashamed of their gambling habits if a person is struggling to feed his family or always come up short with bills and always struggling to make ends meet or worse case scenario the person might be ashamed because of the unpaid debts he had while he's out there doing gambling activities LOL.
Again, there's nothing to be ashamed of about gambling as long as you are financially stable to sustain your gambling needs. I only have one judgement for those who are ashamed of their gambling habits "they don't have enough money to sustain their gambling habit".

When they are losing a lot they are going to keep it a secret but not if they keep winning, there's satisfaction for gamblers if they win and they want to share this with others even to the public, that is why we see people posting their winnings here and if its a celebrity they announce it to their fans and media.

If they are on a losing streak they kept it a secret because they don't want their pride to be affected and they don't want people to advise them to stop because they are hooked on gambling, so they can continue gambling and some gamblers believe that if people keep advising them to stop they will have bad luck playing.

Not sure if they are proud or not but what I do know is that those who gamble secretly are the kind of people that is prone to gambling addiction , because there is no one that can advise or support them in things like this.

Well, i keep my gambling activities a secret to some people in my life, not because i am not proud of the fact that i gamble, but because I don't want anybody keeping malice with me , or trying in any way to discourage me from gambling, you know it is written that a prudent man(that is a wise man) forseeth evil and hides himself, he did not hide himself because he lacks the strength to fight, or to confront that evil and defeat it, but he hides himself simply because sometime, avoiding something is better than trying to explain it to someone understanding.

So lets say now, my wife naturally does not like gamblers as she sees them as jobless, lazy and money wasters, imagine i let her know that i gamble, how possibly can i explain this to her understanding?, what exactly am i going to tell her that will make her understand that not every gambler is jobless, lazy and just wasting money, i will rather spare myself that stress of trying to convince her, by keeping my gambling activities a secret to her, than trying to convince in any way.

I invest in crypto in secret, does that already mean I'm not proud of doing it? Answer: No!

It's hard to show people a habit of yours where they will 1st think that it is a bad thing. I don't see anything wrong with people gambling if they just do it with their spare money and not expecting some returns. I love gacha games which has a gambling aspect but I always maintain a budget to it and not go overextend to the point that I will have to use the money that is for the monthly expenses.

My parent did not know I was gambling before, and I did not tell them. My friends knew I was gambling and some are gambling too. I noticed that among my friends, we have different opinions. Some gamble and some do not. But we do not discriminate. Why would a friend discriminate because of gambling. But there are some of my friends that warn we that are gambling that gambling is risky.

They can be proud of it, but they may not just want people around them to know. Example is a father that keeps it secret from children and also warning them not to gamble. Some is because of religion, especially in those Muslim countries.

I don't see how these two variables gambling and bitcoin sink well together even though one might decide keeping both secret in their right. Am keeping my bitcoin life secret because of security reasons not to be caught up in any cyber or physical attack because the idea would be that as a BTC holder am a rich person. But with gambling you can be a gambler and still be broke and fluke, cause it's not a means of income in anyway for those that understand.. There's no financial threat like it would be for a bitcoiner making himself open to public.

I do not know. But what I know from my experience and in the end I know, most gamblers keep their activities a secret because most people perceive gambling as a negative thing. And I don't think it does any good for a gambler to tell people you like to gamble, and it doesn't do them any good to know it either.
except with some close friends who maybe they also gamble and this has its benefits, because we can exchange ideas and share experiences and also remind each other not to overdo it in gambling and so on.
and in my opinion there is nothing to be ashamed of if many people know about it because you are betting using your own money and not stealing or not harming other people.

If we're on the winning side we can be proud of what we do. With gambling what we experience is loss, we expect it to happen in favour of the ganbler and the reality is completely against it. The house always have its edge and for this reason majority of the gambler have loss in their statistics than profit. This makes people to be down and never want this to be known to the outer world.

Next thing is the dear ones seeing us low after losses. During my initial days of gambling my gambling activities were known to my family. Those days I was in winning streak and the same kept my dear ones happy and we used to spend time gambling. Later I started to loss and my dear ones weren't happy and they were able to come out of gambling very easily. I wasn't and till date I continue to gambling and this is a secret from my loved ones.

It depend on where you live.

If you live in a country where gambling is legal, many people can still accept it because it's not taboo and normal to see people are gambling there.

If you live in a country where gambling is illegal, then it's better to keep your gambling habit secret since not many people will accept it and they think you're a bad person.

Don't argue with me about gambling is for fun, gambling isn't a bad thing etc, that's the reality of people's mind.

Different reasons. Lots of it.
Some are trying to hide it from their wives. Some from their parents. Some are too shy to tell other people that they gamble. Others do like to keep their privacy intact.
We cannot judge a gambler by what he is doing, there could be a deeper reason on why he is keeping it a secret.
IMO, I don't really care what people will talk about. They can gossip all they like until they lose their voices but I will still continue gambling and won't be shy about it.
I never kept it to my wife, she knows it and she also knows that I won't go far as being an addict. So why should I be ashamed outside while the people living in my roof already knew about it?

Personally I am not proud of the gambling that I do because of course I prefer to hide it from friends and people who know me, except my wife because it is important for her to know and help me in limiting my gambling budget, this is done so that I do not trapped in addiction, because when you become an addict it will be difficult to recover.

Besides, why do we have to share our winnings on social media and require that many people know that I gamble, it will definitely look bad in their eyes too, so there's no need to publicize it too much because it's better for me to gamble in a hidden way using my cellphone and computer at home, that's more than enough although my close friend is also a gambler I don't want him to know that I gamble.

I think that those who hide their passion for gambling just do not want unnecessary attention from the society. Among gamblers there are many people who can control themselves during the game and have never had serious problems with gambling, but society often considers all gamblers as unreliable people. Of course they are wrong. I think you realize that I do not want to spend my personal time to prove them otherwise. Therefore, it is easier for me to hide from others that I like to gamble. The only important note is that your family should know that you gamble, because they are able to notice changes in a person in time and realize that he needs help.
