I have been investing in crypto since January 2022 and it is beginning to test my patience waiting for the bull run.

I was buying all along the bottom of the bear market so current prices do not interest me too much as I got in a lot lower so I am just waiting to take profits.

Looking at the 2020 halving, the market didn't really start moving until 4 months later - is this likely to be the case after this recent halving too?

You have said it yourself, that in 2020, bitcoin did not increase immediately after halving. Not only in 2020, you can also track the record of 2012 and 2016 halving. Holders need to be patient because bitcoin can not just start increasing immediately as some impatient people will expect. Bitcoin will still get to many all-time high.

What kind of take profit you are expecting? If you purchase at bottom assuming you are here since 2022 which means you probably enter at 15k level. You already gain approximately x4 of your investment which is already a massive amount unless you are just investing few dollars and waiting to turn into millions when Bitcoin price reach 1M per Bitcoin.

If you are expecting a x100 gain then you are already 10 years late. Current Bitcoin price is already high. You will need to wait a decade or more just to reach that target profit besides you are just invested for 2 years while you are already losing patience while you are already at profit?

You can't or shouldn't be waiting for a bull run when you know from historical data one is not coming soon. You've been investing since January 2022 which was at the point when the last bull run was starting to lose steam. This normally leads to a bear market, the halving, some months of sideways movement and then the bullrun.

This market has been different in that we already hit an ATH even before the halving. If you can't be patient through one of the lowest bear markets, in terms of percentage drop and one of the quickest rebounds, this may not be the investment option for you.

We can't expect every halving result to be the same as before this halving. Some have speculated that bitcoin will see a bull run even before the halving happens.

Some have said we will experience some price drops immediately after the halving. Just before the halving, we saw the new Bitcoin clock breaking the previous one, which was driven by many factors, and the ETF approval is one of them.
 
I'm not certain when we will experience the next bull run, but what I know is that it's close; an exact date can't be given, but in the coming month, maybe before the end of the 2nd quarter of the year, we might start experiencing the bull season, so let's just keep the hope and expectation on a lower level in order not to be disappointed by the result.

Actually this is a bad idea, the price you may be interested again to buy more btc may never come ever again, just continue to buy because in a actual fact we don't know when bitcoin price will rise or drop but the only thing that makes most not bother about the price is from the fact that we know bitcoin is currently the world best store of value and if we HODL we will earn more in the long run.

Also bitcoin price movement this year before halving is different from the previous halving since we got to a new ATH before this halving, while others notably me were waiting for the dip before this year halving to buy btc, I miss it because I didn't even notice when the dip occurs since I wanted more price drop which was disappointing. I advise you continue to buy and HODL in order to make the best out of every market seasons.

The Bitcoin business is very profitable but it also has some level of risk and the greater your risk level the greater your chance of making more money. Some person has already sold and collected their profit because they don't want to take more risks. If you want more then you should be patient enough to wait till the real bull starts in the next few months. If you were able to hodl on for the past two years, then don't be tempted to throw in the towel.

But it is still important to note that this present bull run might be different from others so nobody knows the precise time the bull run will start. We got to the ATH before the halving which was quite different from other halving. My suggestion would be, just be patient and hope for the best.

Bull Run depends on different market situations, like News, Technical & Sentimental, but as for the past history of BTC halving, its takes almost 2-3 months before BTC gets pumped and cross his Higher high, so if you have invested in good coins(coins with use case) then the only thing you need is patience.

the next ATH is usually 1 year+ after a halving and the chances of a 100x from last ATH is not a expectation any more
1st cycle was 100x ($0.30-$30)
2nd cycle was 40x ($30-$1.2k)
3rd cycle was 16x ($1.2k-$20k)
4th cycle was 3.5x ($20k-70k)

so dont expect 100x again expect 2-4x of last ATH

if you have been buying since 2022 then you have been buying during the cycles lows of $15k-$40k
so your amounts should be 1.5x-3x+ already
lets say we do just 2x from last ATH(140k) but you bought at the current cycles (2022 mid) of $35k you may get a 4x, but thats*
lets say we do 4x from last ATH(280k) but you bought at the current cycles 2022 low of $16k you may get a 17x, but thats*
*still just wishful hopes with no knowledge of what the end ATH will be for this cycle

as for when you wish to cash out. well no one can predict the ultimate ATH
it may be $100k/$140k/$200k/$280k

you may wait or hope for say $200k/$280k but wait and wait, where the ATH might only hit $140k so you end up not selling out due to the GREED of being told to expect/wait for $200k+ so end up not selling in 2025 and thus end up having to wait until the next cycle of 2028-2029's halving and ATH


next bit of advise you are already in profit. no one suggests you should cash out all of it but if money is a struggle which you cant survive the next year. take out SOME of your profit now to cope with the short term and that will calm your struggle as you wait for the ATH next year

yes there is a known sentiment that once a pattern is known. people plan for the pattern and thus manoeuvre differently than unknown precedence's previously, thus end up changing the pattern now its a known factor of the masses

what you have to realise is that there are places on the planet where electric is more than $0.50/kwh which is where people having a mining cost of
over $140k right now. and so when they see market rates of under $140k, they are happy to buy at market instead of mining as its a discount compared to mining.
with continual growth of mining costs this too makes more people happily buy at market even when premium as its still discount compared to mining

the secret to finding the resistance point of market purchasing is to find the most expensive mining cost on planet..
in 2021 it was $75k which explained why buy orders dried up at $70k in 2021

Before this year ends, I guess. But I am not expecting for the uptrend to happen within a month after the halving. As we can see on the market, prices of crypto are still down and have low volume compared to previous months which is an indicator of a bearish tendency. Obviously, the best thing to do now is to patiently wait for further market confirmations. Things won't happen on a single snap which is an enough reason to avoid FOMO and FUDs. It was just a misconception and were just referred in such way because of the events which happened before after the halving. But if you would look closer to timeframes, there were a lot of accumulation stages on the previous halving before the increase became continuous. Altcoin season on the other hand happens after Bitcoin dominance, which happened numerous times in this industry.

Actually, looking at previous halvings like that of 2016 and 2020 it took within 160 days before the bull run began but for the fact that ATH was created before this halving makes it difficult to predict when bull run will be speculated to occur because when we look at the last quarters of 2023 till now, you can agree with me that it has been a bullish period so now that the halving event has also occurred, there will be some oscillation in the price of Bitcoin and if you observed you will see that since the halving the price have not been too forward neither too backwards so some after halving corrections may occur before we can start experiencing the real bull run. Bull season is coming but no one can tell you exactly when it will happen, maybe in the next few months or maybe in the next few years. The only thing when investing in bitcoin is to be mentally prepared to hold it for a long time and maybe longer than you originally planned. Don't speculate with bitcoin and think you can easily make a profit from it. I mean, don't focus too much on news like ETFs or halvings, they can be factors in creating a bull season but nothing is 100% guaranteed.

Oh. Past performance is NEVER a guarantee of future results. There is one thing that I can say with a high level of confidence though:
Every time the bitcoin exchange rate hits a new all-time-high value, it will be within two years of when the bitcoin reward subsidy is cut in half.

Real? Was there something imaginary about the bull run we already had? Also, if you want to take profits, you should think about the fact that we may be months away from a real bear run.  I certainly wouldn't be surprised if the value of Bitcoin was more than $250,000 a year from now, BUT I also wouldn't be at all surprised it if was $15,000 either (or anywhere in-between). If you want guaranteed profits, the only way to do that is to sell now.  If you want the possibility of higher profits, then you're going to need to accept the risk of lower profits or even total loss.

It is true that 4 months after the halving in 2020 Bitcoin experienced quite good price movements (up). However, you need to remember that the price of bitcoin started to rise higher, namely at the end of 2021. Then in November 2021 the price of bitcoin managed to break through the ATH at that time at $68K. So if you look at the historical records of the last Bitcoin halving, it means that the time interval before the Bitcoin price experienced a rapid increase (bull run), was approximately one year after the halving occurred. So in my opinion the bull run market that occurs this time will not be much different from the bull run markets that have occurred before. Therefore, you have to be more patient to get the target price you want. Because as we know, the Bitcoin halving just happened. So the potential for bitcoin to experience a very high price increase will definitely take a little longer (1-1.5 years). Therefore, until that happens, you must be able to strengthen your patience even more. And my advice, if you still have capital that can be invested in Bitcoin, then it's better to just continue doing DCA.

Well, that's going to be dependent on the market and we cannot really know where we will go but only once we are there. It's best that you HODL and continue to buy if you are able to. I for one has been excited about the halving happening at a time when my knowledge of Bitcoin is emboldened enough and from my research of such happenings, the bull run should come within 3-6months after this current halving.
Everyone DCAing for sometime now, can still do so and wait for maturity stage before selling or an investor who has been patient enough to accumulate can either continue to do so or still sell.

If you bought bitcoin in 2022 then you are still making a profit of 2x or 3x, so that in itself is already something very incredible, if it were in other markets you would hardly have obtained such a profit. I think we always need to be grateful when we manage to make a profit of 2x or 3x, because there is no guarantee that the price will always go up a lot. The past event should not serve as a guarantee that it will repeat itself in the future. In the past, the price rose a lot after the halving, but this does not mean that the price must necessarily rise a lot in this halving, it may be the case that in this halving things are different and at most the price has a modest increase, such as 50% It's just that people need to be prepared for these types of scenarios and not get into feelings of anger and hate.

In my case I'm feeling good, I always get it in my head that this is a high-risk market and that past events are no guarantee that they will happen again, especially when it comes to large price increases. History repeats itself. It is not only during the 2020 halving that it took quite a while for bitcoin to sky rocket. It happened on other previous halvings as well and most likely will happen on this one too.

My estimation is that it will get to a new ATH by the end of the year. Analysts are saying it might just cross 150k. If you have been HODLing for this long, what do a few more months matter. But this year we have seen very good spike in the value of Bitcoin even before the halving due to factors like spot ETF approval. But what can you do, this is a fact that inevitably has to be considered as a process in investing. Price volatility is considered normal regardless of any moment considered fundamental to bitcoin, so with patience and optimism I will hold on and will continue to hold.

The price of bitcoin will rise over time and this is an expectation that is more likely to come true after the halving. Massive price movements may still be difficult to expect to happen overnight, so it's best not to have too big expectations about it. I am feeling fine and still patient. You've started on 2022 and that's a good timing because it was the bear market and the bull run was just after that. While you have understood how the market's cycle works, all you need to do is to go on with your plan and wait for sometime. If you invested as early as 2020 then you should have realized a reasonable profit by now because the price was actually low as at then and by now you must have gained profit from your investment. Taking out profit is essential in bitcoin investment and we should always leave greed aside else we might end up losing everything.  I know you must have your plans and you must be targeting the next bull run but the increase in price from your point of investment is high enough to earn you a reasonable amount and taking out profit doesn’t mean you should take out all your bitcoins, you can always take little profit and prepare for the upcoming bull run.

Those who set date to take profit instead of price level are getting it all wrong. The target should be on price, not dateline. For instance, my projection of price was (is) that it would be in the $120k – $150k range to give us a new ATH. That was a painstaking calculation I made late last year, not knowing that Bitcoin would even break its own previous ATH before halving in April. I have my strategy of taking profit in place, this hasn't changed despite how Bitcoin broke its ATH record before time. I guess the reason why you're getting all hitted up is because you didn't make adequate plans for long term holding and maybe you got into buying of bitcon because you needed immediate gains. If you hard continued buying after you bought earlier January 2022 and you bought till now, what you should be looking out for should be how to build up a good portfolio and not now that you still have the opportunity of buying more and not necessarily regrets and plans on selling out your holding. Once you invest into Bitcoin with a short termed mindset, it's certainly going to deter you getting the needed profit out of your investment. I guess you've not bought enough bitcoin at the moment and if you're planning on selling, you should know that transaction charge won't favour you that much if the quantity you've been able to stack isn't much. Funny enough, I get more worried about Bitcoin when it's just rising within a short period. When something like that happens it's usually because of FOMO. Isn't there some contradiction in your post? First of all, you don't consider this a real bull run, but I think that some of the investors got spoiled along the way because they have too often watched the graph on Coinmarketcap when BTC went from cents to thousands of dollars. The definition of a bull run has changed in my eyes. Within one year BTC has increased by 100%. There are not a lot of assets giving you 100% within 12 months. For some who sold at above 70k, it was much more than that.

But some here are ignoring the numbers behind these runs and under which circumstances they took place. When you look at the LOG graph on Coinmarketcap, BTC has been steadily going up. Back at the time when BTC was in the cents or the dollars, millions on inflow were able to move the market price significantly. Now if you want to double the BTC price, you need about a trillion to flow into BTC. $1,000,000,000,000 - or one thousand billions of dollars.

In my opinion when BTC doubles in price these days, then it could definitely be called bullish. It is crazy how much money is needed to move the price that much. That's why I am surprised that some still think it is time for BTC to go 10x in no time. I believe that BTC can go 10x, but unlikely that this is going to happen in no time.

Holding is a great thing if you are capable of doing, but the worst sometimes happens and that's just something we can't really get over. What is the worst? Well you are holding, and you are aware that you should be holding, and you are even willing to hold, but then you need the money for some emergency and have to sell and use that money, and you watch it go up. That's exactly what's going to happen to me and there is really nothing that will be doing all that fine for me, we just have to accept that fact.

Holding is a great thing if you are capable of doing, but the worst sometimes happens and that's just something we can't really get over. What is the worst? Well you are holding, and you are aware that you should be holding, and you are even willing to hold, but then you need the money for some emergency and have to sell and use that money, and you watch it go up. That's exactly what's going to happen to me and there is really nothing that will be doing all that fine for me, we just have to accept that fact.

I believe that we are not going to get anything insane, it is not going to be all that complicated, we just need to realize that things are what they are, and we are going to end up with as much of a trouble as we can sometimes.

That's just one drawback though, that's why we said that we should invest what we can afford to lose. And then at least some fiat base income from businesses or job so that you can't touch your Bitcoin holdings. But I do agree though, in 2022, there was one emergency in our family and I have to withdraw at least some weeks of my DCA. But I was able to get it back, I mean invested money again to cover what I've "lost". As for the title of the thread, we will have to wait till everything settles down, yeah we are in the downsized, but this is just another test and I think if we look at short term, we are still going to make a good run at the end of the year, maybe around $80k at least and reaches new all time high. But the top of the bull run will be 2025, 6 digit figure and this is what we all have been waiting for to happen.

Has anyone ever suspected that bull season is coming? I mean there won't be a bull season like we expected and the game has changed. It changed because when people realized that the bull season will come after the halving, and people are holding tight to take profits. Think about it, if everyone is determined to hold and not sell and only sell when the price increases, who will be willing to spend money to buy at a higher price?
I am thinking about this scenario and I think we will no longer have a bull season or a bear season, instead bitcoin will grow slowly and sustainably, not increase sharply and decrease sharply like before. That also means there won't be an altcoin season like many people expect.

It was just a misconception and were just referred in such way because of the events which happened before after the halving. But if you would look closer to timeframes, there were a lot of accumulation stages on the previous halving before the increase became continuous. Altcoin season on the other hand happens after Bitcoin dominance, which happened numerous times in this industry.

That's just my temporary thought, I don't expect that to happen but I won't rule it out until bull season actually arrives. Totally depends on what coin that you are really that holding whether it would really be taking up some shot on upcoming bull run or not but if we do speak or talking about those known and established coins then we could really be able to tell that it is really indeed worth on doing so on holding up for too long. It would really be that a test of patience as we do all know when dealing up with crypto space but of course there would really be that specific time or perfect moment on which you would really be needing to sell out and secure your profits. If you have collected a large amount of bitcoin, of course patience is the key to success in investing in bitcoin.

I think holding Bitcoin is not about the market dipping or market surging, as long as we trust that Bitcoin will deliver, regardless of the market trend we will accumulate and hold Bitcoin.  It is advisable to invest in Bitcoin when it is in a bear market because we can buy BTC during those time at a very cheap prices.

People who don't do enough research and fail to understand the history and cycle of the Bitcoin market will be shaken the first time they saw the price of Bitcoin crash but believe and enough knowledge about the rebounding power of BTC will surely keep them holding their stash.  At the end of the day it is the knowledge and belief that will keep our patience holding BTC until it rallies.

There is basically no compulsion to hold bitcoin longer than you believe, even if many people say holding it long term is much more profitable. There are times when you have to get out of the market as long as you get a decent profit, especially if at that time you really need money urgently.

But whatever it is, I agree that holding bitcoin in the long term, especially after you have prepared to build a portfolio before the halving, is something you should maintain. Prices will rise over time, in fact I believe we will find bitcoin prices around $100k by the end of the year. Anyone can sell them now, but the best advice is don't sell them all.

That's why they are called diamond hand, because they are not affected by the price itself. All they do is go on years after years to buy. Even if you are just average joe like the rest of us, you can used this strategy for good and it has not flaws whatsoever. You have to learn a lot about market trend analysis to know when the market is bearish or bullish. A correction of 5% - 10% in a day is not a bearish trend - but it is a normal correction due to high selling action. A market trend that decreases over time is called bearish - the market will not recover quickly in such conditions, meaning the trend will not change overnight from its big decline.

Since the new ATH was hit - bitcoin has lost a lot of its value in the market. The price of bitcoin has fallen by $10K to date - but in the last few days, the market has started to move up after hitting a low of $56K. I'd be more patient if I were you.  Just don't look at the fluctuating market for now, I doubt it will fall at the number where you bought it because of the ETF which will try to keep it at the right place. We didn't have that before which made it scary, we have it now and that should be a big change in how we see the Bitcoin market.

If we are referring to bearish season then its not a few days.  Dont use less then weekly bars might give a better conclusion on that idea, if we do restrict our vision in that way then BTC is bullish and will likely continue to be so for some time.

Yes there can be selling now, next week even for months but that wont negate the long term or seasons as we might refer to a bullish or bearish long term trend.   4 year cycle is about the time BTC seems to take its stride, Im so surprised how long term BTC really is in its movements so all this week to week stuff is just traders fighting each other.  We arent bearish or near to it imo.

The reason for using higher time frames and really giving them the majority of weight in your overall outlook is the accuracy is far higher.  The volume for an entire weekly bar is much greater then any of these small time frames.   When I first started looking at graphs alot I got down to a minute time frame for the data, its very frequent and so how can it be wrong to have the latest price for judging direction and the outlook.    Problem is price can jump around and do anything in a day, we have to at least close out the daily bar to say maybe this is something. BTC is really jumpy and inaccurate at times, its a free market and not centered in any one place.

I can trade BTC right now at 50k and I used to trade prices like that but only in the smallest volume.  My own trades dont matter, the volume is tiny the price is real but the significance is not there.  Some of that applies even on an exchange the price isnt always that accurate, so its really hard to know for real a good trend is in place or if we are just moving in circles.  Everyone is trying to outdo the other guy, they even got computers with trading programs trying to outsmart us now and doing a good job of it.   I try to set boundaries and if we exceed and stay that way I think the level of positive or negative movement in the price has moved properly then.

the halving as far as I know never really the thing that motivated sudden price surge, at best it could causes market sentiment to be good but never the factor that trigger sudden price surge from my opinion.
if you see the previous halving, the price never move that much when the halving is happening or exactly at that day, but what comes after is what matter most, the price increase usually happen after few months, even many speculators and traders making the same prediction that it won't just instantly become massive rally.

You are right, the increase in value of Bitcoin after the halving is not existent unless a big hype comes out. Also, it's expensive in this era which could be the reason for a slow value increase. I'd be more patient if I were you.  Just don't look at the fluctuating market for now, I doubt it will fall at the number where you bought it because of the ETF which will try to keep it at the right place. We didn't have that before which made it scary, we have it now and that should be a big change in how we see the Bitcoin market.

ETF approval reason or not, there's no way that we could precisely tell that it was actually the reason but making up some alignment about on the sentiments or events on that particular time then we can really say
that ETF approval didm make out that kind of huge influence for the price to reach it up and make that new ATH.Although it might not really be that too far off on what we are expecting considering that institutional funds are flowing now into Bitcoin or crypto space. This is why there would really be having that kind of skeptical approach about the news and events thats happening in the market.

Nobody can pinpoint a perticular date when the upward trend will start that Bitcoin will continually be bullish till it reaches it's peak, the only thing we can do is just to speculate price, because it's a volatile market. There's a reason why Bitcoin is long term investment, so patience is a virtue while holding it, although nobody can stop the holder from selling at anytime, but it's worth the wait to sale in the peak of bull run to maximize ROI. The mistake of the OP and some people is that they put too much expectation on the halving, they think that as soon as the halving happens, the bull season will come immediately. But unfortunately things never go as we expected, so not only the OP but many people also expressed disappointment and discouragement when bitcoin did not increase in price when the halving ended.

We need to define bitcoin as a long-term investment and hold it until we make a profit, don't pay too much attention to events or news and think that bitcoin will increase in price because of those things. Don't be too naive to think that everything will be that simple.

You're right, OP was able to buy and hold during the harsh bear season of 2022, so there's no reason to get discouraged and give up now. We are standing on the threshold of heaven and with just a little more, everything will be rewarded for us. I am not sure what to think of this statement to be honest. I hope you are not making the mistake and hold your majority of crypto in alt coins. At least you gave an explanation what you mean by a "bull run", but I am sure you understand that going from $10k BTC to $60k BTC is very different from going from $60k BTC to $360k BTC. It took about $1 trillion to pump the market during that time you mentioned. Now it will take about $6 trillion to see a similar pump in terms of percentage returns.

In my opinion it can already be called a bull run when at this stage we go like 2x or 2.5x. That is an insane amount of money that has to flow into the market. This happen in the last few months. A bull run does not necessarily mean a new ATH after a drop.

I am not saying it is impossible that we see the same and go to $360k in no time. But I expect a more incremental increase until we get there.

And again: I still hope you are not mostly into alt coins. I think it is casino, but that's of course up to you.

OP, it's great that you started investing in 2022 and are still holding on. I don't know which coins you have invested in? But if you invest in Bitcoin you are currently in profit.  Since you have waited patiently for so long, you should wait even more patiently. If you are impatient and sell your investment at this time, you may regret it in the coming bull run. The previous halving happened in 2020 and the bull run started at the end of 2020, so the bull run could start later this year. You don't get impatient, if you hold the investment till 2025 hopefully you can make good profit.
