icopress I want to make public suggestion for next year Pizza event, and other members can comment if this is a good idea or not.
I think it would be a good idea to have small consolation prizes for best pizzas made by each local board, but only in case if they didn't receive any reward in main competition.
For example, we had several members in Croatian board, consolation prize would go to the local member with most votes.
It should be the same for other local boards but members need to be active there to qualify for consolation prize.
This could motivate local members to create better pizzas and it could also increase local activity in forum.

The idea seems good, but there had to be a minimum of local participation to qualify for this consulation prize.
Because there are some local tabs with many entries and others with just one or two.

I agree, the idea of including local sections is a good one, but there's a risk of imbalances, no?
As you say, for example, in locale FR there were only two of us taking part in the competition, so it wouldn't make much sense.

Based on the success of this year's event, I guess it would be too much to ask from the organizers to handle everything. It's quite a job to organize and compile results; it's not a one-person job as we saw. So I think it's the local board's responsibility to conduct internal competitions if they want. For example, we are already organizing a small reward of $50 for our participants to choose the  Best Pakistani Pizza Participant - Appreciation Award

This can also be a good option, with the main organization encouraging local boards to hold an internal "contest" to choose the best pizza on their board.
Since the idea was that everything would be integrated into the same event, everything would have to be done under the responsibility of the main organization, dictating the rules and guidelines on how this promotion should be carried out.

Congratulations to the winners!

+1
In our region (board:LE) there were only two pizza makers guys, but regardless of whether they are awarded or not, I believe that each board can organize its "award" whether in cash or just in honor, hence, I think that buying the organization rights should not be so expensive, then, you (us) just need to know how much the franchise for local events costs: Bitcoin Pizza Day on Bitcointalk

OP: rate, fee... how much...?

Congrats to the winners!!! 1 of my 3 picks took a prize yay. There were some awesome entries this year.

I see people making suggestions on how to make it better for next year and agree that 1 suggestion( Local Boards) should be left to organize their own competitions if they feel it is absolutely necessary, but personally I don't think it is. I don't love the idea of segregating the people into groups of the French, the Indians, The Americans etc.

It's a competition and it's something that helps bring the community together. Doesn't matter where you are from, test your creative skills and compete with everyone IMO.

It reminds me the time when I was in uni first year and I was asked to solve some if-else conditions. I took two long days [without sleeping two nights in a row] to automate for any possible variable for the program and I still can feel the satisfaction I felt after completing it. It's been over 20 years.

The idea seems good, but there had to be a minimum of local participation to qualify for this consulation prize.
Because there are some local tabs with many entries and others with just one or two.
If we have more than two pizza submission we should generally accept them, as long as they have collected any votes (and that is not easy to achieve).
We are not talking about big rewards here, that is why they are called consolation prizes.
Even just announcing best local pizza submissions would be nice to have.

Based on the success of this year's event, I guess it would be too much to ask from the organizers to handle everything. It's quite a job to organize and compile results; it's not a one-person job as we saw. So I think it's the local board's responsibility to conduct internal competitions if they want. Good idea.
Local boards can do this separately, but I think it would be better to have all thus unified.

Yes, it's also true. These two participants, it's not their fault that more members of their local board didn't participate.

But, then, at least there had to be two participants.

icopress I want to make public suggestion for next year Pizza event, and other members can comment if this is a good idea or not.

How about every local board will have their own contests like you have in your local boards. The winners of the local boards will be eligible to participate in the main event. Those who have no local board they can join directly in the main event.

Phase one: When someone is joining in the local contest, they can not join the main event, only if they win local contest then they can submit it in the main event.
Phase two AKA main event: Since some people do not have any local section, they can directly join the main event.

By the way, if you are thinking you are asking icopress [or his alt or spouse/relative... GazetaBitcoin] too much to do in these community contests then you are wrong. The return they receive from managing these contests are a lot more than the time and effort they spend. You, me [as a part of the sponsor of this year], and others are having fun, perhaps the winners are receiving some financial benefits but for icopress [and his family or alt], they are receiving business from it. They are using these contests as a business pitch to their clients. So making the contest more attractive means they will show it with more confidence to their potential clients.

I'm sure counting votes was easy once you got the data, but I'm curious why you didn't use AI.
Because I wouldn't have trusted whatever answer it gave me.

Each time I've played around with ChatGPT (and other LLM-based stuff), I've been disappointed by the correctness-level of its responses compared to the confidence-level with which it speaks. So, I would've had to "check" its work anyway, effectively by repeating it independently; may as well then just do the work myself and not rely on its "assistance" in the first place. Especially with technical stuff, it falls apart quickly. I suppose, if you don't care whether the answers you get from it are actually right or not, then ChatGPT must seem like this incredible tool from the future, but to me, it's so often wrong that I've stopped wasting my time even experimenting with it.

I keep hitting your Merit limit of 50 per month. Maybe it's time to patch that Tongue
I mean, you kid, but it's occurred to me more than once that it would be nice to be able to leave "latent" merit on a post. (That is, if you can't merit a post because of a lack of sMerit or because you've hit the limit for that user, then it would be nice if you could still leave what amounts to a "merit promise" that will get automatically fulfilled when possible. There'd still have to be some kind of limit, so that people don't create unrealistically deep backlogs, and I think unresolved merit transactions probably shouldn't be visible to anyone but the sender, otherwise you risk creating an incentive for people to sometimes send merit only because they're trying to "unlock" the latent merit that they've been sent. But, those two niggles aside, I think it would be a handy feature.)

I completely agree with you as I think there are many other ways local boards can organize contests if they chose to do that; it must not be pizza contest that I feel is significant for Bitcoin and suitable for the entire forum participation. If various local boards start to organize theirs, it becomes so common and the fun and engagement will disappear.

Our Naija local board once hard an art contest1, which turned out to be fun and attracted the attention of notable people even outside our local board like 1miau, JayJuanGee and others. So, there are many ways of bringing engagement in the local boards that must not be pizza contest.

By the way, if you are thinking you are asking icopress [or his alt or spouse/relative... GazetaBitcoin]
that was very cringe and lame...
I have been tolerating nonsense coming from you for some time, but it's enough....so welcome to my Ignore list.
Fun fact, another stupid spammer accused me before that I am also another alt account of icopress  Roll Eyes

Now back on topic with Bitcoin Pizza Day 2025 plans.

icopress I want to make public suggestion for next year Pizza event, and other members can comment if this is a good idea or not.

No... well, that would be good if we were contesting for the Best Pizza Chef of Bitcointalk Smiley

What I mean is, I guess it's luck as well, since we are not professional chefs. There's no guarantee that if we made a good pizza in our local contest, we would be able to bake another good pizza the second time.

Yeah, if one pizza is enough to compete in the local and then international pizza event, then it's okay.

By the way, our local Pizza Contest is over, and we had 12 participants. Among those, our community has chosen the following pizzas, which will receive $30 and $20 each.

Winners:

Winner
Runner-up
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Cheema02 (#6)       $30 ThemePen (#102)          $20
