The skateboarding final was scintillating to say the least. Both the Japanese and Americans were on fire with Yuto Horigome nailing a 97 as his final trick and taking gold by the smallest of margins. Loved the event.

So what's the consensus then (if there is any)? What's the main reason why you win so few Olympic medals? Is it because, as a nation, you don't care much about sports in general (I don't know if that's true, just speculating), or maybe you're too focused on a few sports like cricket? Or is there something else causing it?

It's all about Cricket in India and there is very little focus on any other sport. Bad infrastructure, crazy corrupt politicians etc are few other reasons too.

Swimming 100 Metre Freestyle semi-finals tonight with once again David Popovic being the favorite to qualify in final and to win it as well. Yesterday he already won his first gold medal of Paris and I'm sure this kid will most likely win 100Metre final too because currently he is the faster swimmer in the world and just a quick reminder that he is still 19 years old which is scary to think what he can achieve until he is 30 years old.

Watching Anthony Edwards cheer on the table tennis players has been the unexpected clip of the Olympics so far for me. That boy is spending a whole lot of time around women’s table tennis players. I’m guessing there’s one he’s got his eye on. Strange because he was just posting pictures with his girlfriend and kid.

On the other side, Australia with a population of 2% of that of India managed to win a total of 46 medals during the last Olympics. That means that Australians are 350 times more likely than Indians to win medals at Olympics. Even Japan, considered as the most rapidly ageing nation in the world managed to win 58 medals last time.

Those two are among the most developed and richest coutnries in the world and to be really successfull in sports, you need infrastructure which equals to money.

India has won fewer medals than North Korea, Cuba or Azerbaijan...
It's not about the money it's more about a cultural thing, South and South East Asia are not that keen on sports, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Vietnam despite the population lack the results.

Swimming 100 Metre Freestyle semi-finals tonight with once again David Popovic being the favorite to qualify in final and to win it as well.

I wonder if he's going to pull another final few meters again, he did that in the previous final winning by a nail and now in the qualifying, he was again fourth or fourth of the last lap and managed to win the series.
Still don't get the point of 10 series for the 16 places, the guys from S2 were all almost 3 seconds than the S1, I know it's about competitions and stuff, but make another preliminary just for them and pick 8 of those.

France vs Japan basketball game was freaking amazing. It had me at the edge of my seat throughout the entire game. Was expecting Japan to end up winning, but they messed up so many times in OT.

Kawamura and Victor were epic throughout the game. France seriously deserved to go through to the next round though. Amazing match overall!

And South Korea is way more successful than North Korea at the Olympics so we can't completely ignore money being a factor as well. There are exceptions though, but when you look at the list of the most successfull countries, they are mostly among the most developed ones. Unless they are using the sport for other means, like DDR once did. After all, George Orwell once said that "sport is war minus the shooting".

On the one hand, there is nothing surprising about this, since before this game, Spain had already guaranteed themselves a place in the quarter-finals. But on the other hand, they have now made life much more difficult for themselves, since they are drawn against France, which simply destroyed its group, scoring 9 points with a goal difference of 7-0. Spain has a modest goal difference of 6-4, and it looks like they will be underdogs in the upcoming game.

Thank you Germany for not messing it up in the 2nd half.    I know it isn't big winnings but I really couldn't find other reliable bets so wanted to start with lower odds.

Germany really made me nervous by their 1st half performance. Brazil's series in the 2nd quarter was scary. But thankfully Germany played better during the rest of the game. It would be a pity if it turned into a game like the Japan - France one. I guess many people expected France to win easier than this. But they barely did it by OT. Anyway I can't wait for next games already.

Olympic games have nothing to do with UEFA EURO. Even World Cup surprises could not be as random as the Olympic games.
I don't know if the conditions in Paris affected group games or not, otherwise players playing individual games made a lot of complaints about the food shortage, the condition of the bed...

Spain had already guaranteed themselves a place in the quarter-finals. But on the other hand, they have now made life much more difficult for themselves, since they are drawn against France

Spain will face the winner of group D which is Japan, not France.
If Spain had qualified for the knockout stage as the winner of group C, it was possible that they face France in the semi-finals, but now they will face France only if both teams advance to the final.

Not everything happens as planned in this Olympics. Over 1.4 billion was spent to clean up Seine river, but seems that it didn't helped. Triathlon competition was postponed because there is too high level of E.coli bacteria in the water. And it's not clear whether it will be possible to held competition on Wednesday:

And today's conditions for all competions in open air was so difficult - air temperature in Paris was +36°C, I watched beach volleyball, tennis and some football and athletes really struggled with such heat. It won't be much better tomorrow.

I'm not sure hat it can be considered as huge upset - both teams already have already secured their spots in nextround, so, this loss doesn't cost much for Spain. And yeah, I know that's not same teams, but remember what outcome we had when Spain met Morocco in 2022 World Cup

Betting on Olympic soccer is literally impossible.  Differemt rosters of players with no way to know game to game what team will show up.  Olympics are always like that.  I guess it might be worth betting on the underdogs.  I wonder if you bet on every underdog what the results would be

This should be one of the wonders of the Olympics this year. No one expected that result so I guess it is the bookies day. Egypt truly humbled Spain who many were thinking they will destroy them. They lead them from first half and in the second half Ibrahim Adel scored his second goal which would have ended the match in 0-2 win against Spain if not of the late minute goal of the Nigerian born Spanish player Samu Omorodion. Despite the loss today, Spain still advanced to the next round in the second position behind Egypt.

Strazel did the last shot that made France able to tie the score with that 4 pts, a 3 point shot and a foul by Kawamura. It's seen that Kawamura was holding the waist of Strazel and that's a brilliant shot and move for him.

If they have an intention to foul, they should have done it before Strazel jumped so that there will only be 2 shots in the free throws to end the series for Japan.

It's good to see clutches like that but for sure it was an exhausting loss for Japan when they're about to win that.

It's all good. The triathlon competition is already underway with Flora Duffy obliterating her competition at the moment. Seems like she will another gold in this Olympics just like way back in Tokyo.

I must say that yesterday I was thrilled by Simone Biles' gold. It was truly an excellent performance and it was truly a sumptuous performance even if the shame was that the gold was snatched from Italy even if they had no hope of winning. against the Americans so for them too the silver medal is the same as if they had taken the gold one so I would like to congratulate them too for the historic podium, beautiful emotions

Looks like the major reason why the water is deemed not ideal for the competition is due to rain. I wonder what kind of preparation they have to solve issue like this, considering postponing competition is definitely not the ideal answer. It's great if the competition can continue, but the prospect of getting trashed by some random events sounds a bit worrying for future competition. I'm curious what kind of cleanup is required if they spend that much money, does this mean other countries will need the same amount of capital to prepare for this sport?

I am more shocked, not only by the amount France spent to clean Seine, but that they got into trouble with unclean water, bacterias and etc on the day of event actually. Paris won the opportunity to held Olympic games in 2017. They had plenty of time to clean Seine (perhaps) or to build or find an alternative place to run swimming part of a triathlon. Seems that they were busy for years and prepared for Olympic games in last minutes.

I’m not surprised by seeing Egypt defeating Spain because Spain did not play very well in the match and Egypt is also a very strong country in this league, Egypt is an underrated country in this league and we have to take a look at their performance and know that they are very strong in this tournament, Spain has already qualified to another round of the tournament and I think is also part of the reason why they didn’t play very well in the match but I will advise Spain to try to play well next time if not they will be eliminated in the next round, the only teams that I’m interested in watching their games in this tournament are France and Argentina, France and Argentina are the best in this tournament and it will be very good if one of this country wins the trophy.

France and Argentina are going to play against each other in the semi-final if both teams play very well and qualify for the semi-final the match is going to be very tough because Argentina has a very strong squad the way France has, But I support France to win the trophy since Argentina has already won the Copa America, France always tried their best in every tournament and it will be very good if they win the Olympic trophy this season and my support if for France to win the title.
