Arab or Middle Eastern countries are abundant oil producers and their people are known to be prosperous and rich, but that does not mean that all their people are prosperous and rich because there are some people who live well. although the country is known as an agricultural country because abundant harvests are not a guarantee that all its people will not starve. This may happen because most of the agriculture in the country is only controlled by a few people.
You are right, but in the case of Nigeria, poor people are known for farming, but they lack proper mechanization to grow their foods well that will be enough for consumption and exportation; if rich men or the politicians decided to farm, they will use their power and money to farm, instead of supporting the poor with food when there's is finished, they sell it to them very costly and they grow them in the natural land which is a free gift. What i am saying in essence is that, the green land in Nigeria is fertile and can grow several varieties of food crops and cash crops, if government decide to support the farmers with mechanization and fertilizer, the country will never cry of hunger, but the government are selfish, they prefer to import their food than sponsor their local farmers.

-snip- I think most people in Nigeria are illiterate in agriculture, they have not received any formal education on agriculture. As a result they are failing to produce more crops which has created food shortages in their country At times climate change, increased pest infestations and increased incidence of diseases in cultivated crops have increased the likelihood of crop failure, which is sufficient to cause food shortages in a country.
Not only do most people not have good knowledge about how to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the agricultural sector, but the government also seems to not care about farmers. Because financing and supporting infrastructure for the agricultural sector should be supported directly by the government, so that farmers can get access to advanced processing that is more affordable and makes things easier for them. However, the government seems to not care about this problem and prefers to import more food and agricultural products, which could be reduced drastically if the government cared more about their people. You are efficient in identifying the root course of the issue facing farmers and the solution which speak Volume in me. One major issue about our government is that they abandoned agriculture as a major source of economy growth and facing the some solid minerals mostly the oil, agriculture covers allot in any nation economy to be stable they must have if sector of the agriculture functioning very well. Today country like Nigeria produced allot of food but are lacking food because they lack storage and preservation secondly lack man power as agriculture has shifted from the use of cattle, camel, or any animal to farm a large area but use if machine and improve seed, and fertilizer which our government is not ready to issued the farmer but create policy that favour the leaders in sharing the money from sale if crude oil only. If they will make provision of mist material required for farmers, such as storage facility, machine to practice mechanized, improve security the food production will be very satisfactory, as this is not famine but lack of planning and given required attention to the farming sector.

This is also a bit of governmental issue, but also a liberal issue as well. Sure communists also did have an issue with this, how like China once upon a time wanted to look like they are strong enough, so they took all the crops, and left people to die in famine, but that was back in the day and it's now not like that at all.
An agriculture nation, could only starve, if the people who raise the crops sell it to other nations for more money and prefer money over people in their own country feeding. If you make it quite hard for crops to be sent to other nations, and make farmers sell to its citizens first, then they will make less money, and that's why it's hard to balance that. This is why it's important to have subsidiaries for these type of things that government helps out with.

I agree with your opinion, actually it is not the hunger problem that is affecting the agricultural workers in this country, but the lack of special attention to the workers in this beloved country, the current government is not looking for a solution for its own citizens, but is instead importing goods that should be local income or its own citizens must be able to export so that foreign countries know that the income from our country also has quality and quantity, the government must respect the income of its own citizens, not let its own citizens continue to accept risks that they do not deserve, the government must find solutions and a way to solve existing problems so that local workers can be more enthusiastic and develop more rapidly.

Probably because there's so many people and the production in the agricultural sector is just too low to meet the growing demands of the growing population, got to remember that just because you're renowned on something, doesn't mean that you're going to be able to deliver that thing that you specialize the most especially in a country, it happens a lot especially if the department that's supposed to manage the agriculture in the country doesn't know what they're doing and they have a hard time doing the right thing that they need to do, food shortage is definitely bound to happen, there's also the factor of the crops being damaged by pests, diseases, and natural disasters, the yield will never get to the perfect point with that, there's also the factor that poverty exists in a country, if there's impoverished people, there's definitely people out there that won't be able to afford food on their table thus increasing the hunger index in a country.
Bingo! People do not realize that, while we do still have a good amount of technological improvements on these stuff, we should remember that people force is still the biggest expense at farming. This means that you are making something that is VERY low value, and you are spending so many people for it. This means that financially you are doing something wrong, and it costs a lot more for you. Like for example UK managed to make it like a worlds bank place, and Manhattan too, they could just buy whatever they want and make it shipped to them, and wouldn't be even one percent of their cost. Whereas an agriculture nation would be so poor, they wouldn't be even able to afford their own food, it is as simple as that.

Certain problem exist on agricultural sector since there are some greedy businessman turns the farm land into business centers and government allows it to happen. By continuous action of this evil businessman and corrupt officials then expect that a country would really suffer from hunger especially if they rely to much on importation and they didn't boost their local agricultural sector since the price of basic commodities will soar up just because of those bad actions they did. I guess the problem goes to the leaders of the country since if they don't have any vision for exponential growth of their country specifically for Agricultural boost then people would really suffer for hunger and inflation rate will also soar up. This will bring a lot of problem to common people.

Nigeria is country that is well known as a typical agricultural nation which was once the mainstay to the country economy and because of the agricultural strength of the country compel them to have their flag as Green White Green which signify agriculture and peace but it baffles me to see the level of hunger going on in Nigeria now to the extend that an average Nigerian cannot boast of feeding himself and family three square meal per day. What could be the root cause of this hunger in a country that has all it takes including human capitals and natural resources to make a great nation that the whole would will cherish and envy.
One reason is that the rulers are not capable enough to change the situation, He may have the courage but sometimes the resources is lacking (machinery, investors, etc.) or the other way around. If they attract more money in their country the tendency is some corrupt government officials take advantage of it, in terms of projects that are unfinished or sub standard outcomes and others line the projects are a total failure. One factor is the security of the nation, if foreign investors felt like the nation is unsecure for example of insurgencies, then it is most likely that there are no will to put money in them. Now in some cases the climate also adds to that, if Nigeria has water resources then it would be a less burden as farming will be needing most of it.

It's sad to see that there is a vast and great agricultural land from countries that are into production of agri products yet and they're the ones that are suffering.
The rich countries are giving importance to their agri lands and they develop it. Everyone is right about the importance of politics and choosing the right leader and understands the situation of what the people needs and what is the advantage of a specific mass of land that the country has.
They'll be involved in the development and cultivation of these agricultural-related products for which their people first shall be the one to benefit from it.

Most Africa countries were known for agriculture and before the discovery of crude oil agriculture have been the major source of most countries source of income. Country like Nigeria they have a vast land to make agriculture and they have the resources to empower into agriculture. This can also strengthen the economy of a nation which people can easily go into trading of food commodities. Agriculture don't just provide food for Man but also creates jobs opportunity but the government fails to understand this. Agriculture is very important that government need not to look down on it because it can cause shortage of food and reduce the opportunity of job creation.

Nigeria is in the middle of a crisis at the moment, that is causing even the biggest multinational companies to abandon the country. As always it is usually the government in power that is heading the wrong way, it's often towards more persecution or pointing blame at overseas entities as a way to divert blame from their own ineptitude. Companies need a secure environment to operate consistently and they don't want to keep all their profits fixed in one country, so things like capital controls are bad news but one thing that a government will go for in order to raise short term capital and it looks good through election cycles.

That is not just strictly for Nigeria though, every nation is facing the same issues and that's fine. I think it should be noted that corrupt government is a global problem. And the main reason for that is because for someone to be nominated, they have to go up the political ladder, as someone who has been involved with politics at a very small level, I can tell you that if you are an honest person who never cracks, all the people around you and above you will work hard to keep you grounded, and that's why I can't really make it change at all, it has to be realized that you need to be a crook, so all the crooks around you make you higher level crook, and keep doing that until you become the president. Rarely anyone goes up without getting corrupted, it does happen but very rarely.

Africa continent is a big natural resource continent, every country has a huge population which is very favorable for trade or business activities but poverty is a major problem especially in Nigeria which is seemingly unacceptable and surprising. However as the population growth rate is higher than economic growth it has gradually led to the current situation. Other factors include ethnic conflict income inequality unstable political systems and corruption among others.

The political situation and government policy that are in power can also trigger a messy economy. When the global economic situation is chaotic due to world war and is exacerbated by an extreme climate, the government is unable to control the economy and domestic conditions. At such conditions the government must be able to make policies that can help its citizens and also be able to protect foreign investors. When the poor economy that leads to the crisis even threatens the hunger of its citizens, the head of government must be responsible for the sovereignty of his country.

It is very sad that something like this happens in a country where the majority are farmers, however at least people have to think about their daily food because they all have the right to live and plan their future, especially their income from agriculture, lest they be oppressed by people who irresponsible, if something like that happens then their actions are truly heinous, they should not think about themselves, there are still many people in trouble who they have to find a way out of.
The main role in this is the government in the country. I think every government in any country will always have good policies for its people, but the problem is that many people behind these policies are taking advantage of this situation by playing with the prices of every farmer. It's as if the government is turning a blind eye or it's very difficult to eradicate criminal mafias like this, indeed their actions are really cruel or greedy, they don't care at all about the fate of their farmers in the next life. The most important thing is that they can get big results and enjoy them. Not only in Nigeria but also in my country, the same thing happens, farmers always lose money and prices drop when the harvest arrives.

The problem of hunger in Nigeria has complex root causes. The most basic root of the problem is government policies regarding agriculture and the distribution of resources that are ineffective or unfair in access to food. Apart from that, of course, the environmental damage caused by traditional agricultural systems. Maybe another problem is unstable food prices. I think all the problems come back to the government. Because the government is the authority that can make people live safely and calmly, and it is even the government that makes people poor from the policies they make.
But I don't understand more specifically than what was said, whether this condition really occurs. This is indeed a very complex problem, there are many supporting factors why there is hunger in Nigeria, as some people have mentioned, government policies are vocal in dealing with this because they can determine how to make their people get good living facilities, but if the government is corrupt and irresponsible and thinks more about personal gain, it will be very difficult to change all economic conditions there. Regarding the food that makes them hungry, this can be seen from the supply of basic needs and the development of agriculture in the country, from the start of monetary policy inflation is also a broad problem for the people's economy, this is very complicated if you look at the entire structure that allows people to experience poverty or lack of power to survive. Yes, I also do not understand how the conditions are true and what is read is only ordinary news that may have been by the provider, but the main key in eradicating poverty is the government policy there to be improved.

Nigerians go hungry due to high poverty rates, unemployment & inadequate agricultural infrastructure. Maybe the government is more concerned about foreign trade & selling food than feeding its own people.

What has hit the Nigerian people is because of the greedy and corrupt behavior of its leaders who only prioritize their personal and group interests without caring about the fate of their people. If a country is led by a greedy leader, no matter how great its natural resources are, its people will definitely be poor or hungry, as happened in Nigeria.

It is true that if the paddy is eaten by its fence it will not become a plant in the field. However since Nigeria is a victim of international dirty politics it is very difficult to create good political parties and bring political stability there. Although it is almost impossible for each people to be vocal in their role from their own position I don't think there is any other way to get rid of their current situation.

Proper management of natural resources is the key to this problem, because it is useless even though the country has abundant natural resources but the government cannot manage them properly. My country has abundant natural resources (such as gold, nickel and agriculture) but there are still many people who live below the poverty line. This means that the government's role in managing natural resources is also very important.
