One constant fact that I've noticed since I got into crypto is that the moment a project or a company starts getting popular or begins to gain a huge follower base, it starts to attract scammers like Sugar to ants.

It honestly gets annoying after a while, I can't join a Telegram or Discord group without being DMed by a dozen of them, fake links flying here and there. I've seen similar notifications from Binance, bybit also telling their users to be careful

Use a clean PC or laptop when you’re dealing with cryptocurrencies. A separate one is ideal if possible, do not visit any torrent or file sharing websites. Your private keys & or seed are for your eyes only. Common sense & concentration goes a long way to keeping your money safe.

Here are few that I can think of right now,

1. Do not click any link, specially from unknown source
2. Do not used pirated software
3. Do not trust anyone you talk to in the internet, specially too good to be true offers
4. Do not used Windows, it's better if you are going for MacOS or Unix based
5. Used Hardware wallet
6. Do not back up any of your private key or mnemonic phrase in the Cloud

Yes, that's correct. The communities of crypto projects, companies, and platforms are not free of scammers. Scammers set their eyes on any event launched by any project, such as airdrops, giveaways, or any of the competitions and other events, and they create phishing sites, fake accounts, and fraudulent programs and browser extensions to target investors and traders and scam them.

If your assets are in an offline hardware wallet and you don't use your computer that has Telegram and Discord installed on it and which doesn't contain any important data related to your investments or wallets like seed phrases, private keys, backups, etc, to open any links or download any malicious files and malwares from people who DM you first or from your email, and if your browser has one of the security browser extensions, you will be safe. You need not trust strangers, ads, or websites promoted on search engines or social media. Do your own research and bookmark the official sites of the platforms you regularly visit.

These scammers need a larger platform for more chances of success. Scams nowadays are not hidden in secret but rather are exposed everywhere instead. In plsces where typically you’d think no malicious activity can penetrate through. Scams like phishing links have become such a norm nowadays that it’s even made it more dangerous.

I still believe that a reliable and secure platform is your best bet. More attacks would be trying to get through its walls but due to its high technology and advanced security, I’m more confident in storing my assets in a highly secure wallet.

Make it also a hobby to learn about becoming technology and information literate. Learn how to successfully detect possible scams simply by knowing reliable sources and domain names. If you’ve never heard of its domain link then maybe double think before clicking.

I take warnings very seriously, and anything that comes from telegram, discord, or any other social media like X, I pay very close attention to it, as those areas are the best places where scammers operate.
 
Also, on the side of the email, I don't click on the email link if I don't know the sender. Even if I know the sender and I'm not expecting mail from him or her, I always avoid such links, as we need to be careful of intruders and impersonation too.

Another thing is that one should learn how to keep the gadget they use for their crypto savings away from the reach of others and the constant connection to the internet, as you never can predict which link you could mistakenly click on that can lead to wallet drain.

Pretty normal to see that since scammers will come on where they think they can earn money so expect that lots of them would try their best to fool people around so you need to be aware of their schemes used to avoid getting scam.

Also avoid those pm since legit people will not send any offer via direct message and usually those people doing that are the scammers.

What is important here is you should never deal with people which have questionable intentions. Also always use dummy wallets if you want to transact people online or direct to the platform. Also the last one make sure you have multiple devices to use so that there's no way for those scammers to penetrate and separate all important details to on and use the other gadget for exploring those risky situations and provably with that you will be safe from hack and scams.

And let me add some suggestions to what others have said, if the contact that newly registered in telegram which is appearing on your telegram screen is unknown then blocked them on contact and on notification and mute them. So that you won't receive message from them again. That is what I did. The number of unknown contact in telegram this days is alarming. There are some contacts you know which is own by a neighbour but when you asked them I'd they are the people that use the number registered telegram, they would tell you that they don't even know telegram.
The one the popular musician launched recently has crashed and many people lost their investment. Scammers now on the cryptocurrency space to scam unwise people.

First of all, close DMs on Discord. Also, a good point is to be careful not to connect your wallet and sign every transaction. Use a burner wallet instead!
Also, use an extension or wallet that will show what the transaction will do!

It’s not only popular projects but literally everywhere as long as there’s a legit member interacting on the group. I join a lot of small group projects ranging from 500 to 1K member only yet I’m still receiving PM from admin impersonator.

Don’t trust anyone that DM you first. This is what I learned for many years on working with crypto casino. Scammers is now very creative on scamming members especially by copying the username to almost identical one by using different characters on other language.

Always use hardware wallet nd never share your seed phrase. This way you can assure that your asset will be safe.

that's right, using a device for crypto needs that is separate from what we usually use for other purposes is important. personally, i usually use my iphone and laptop only for my crypto needs, and for other things i will use my android and pc. because having a separate device for your crypto needs is quite important because you don't know whether the website you visit is safe or not, or whether the application you install is safe or malware, and thus your risk of being exposed to viruses or malware can be greatly reduced.

If this is too much for your then your best bet is to get a hardware wallet, this is because a hardware wallet will allow you to protect yourself from most of those threats automatically, that being said, hardware wallets are not completely fool-proof, so you still need to be careful about what you do with that wallet, and by being cautious you can protect your coins with relative ease, while you have peace of mind knowing your coins are much harder to steal.

couldn't this be because of the incident that Binance hacked due to the Chrome plugin?

and maybe a warning to all will work. i didn't see any bybit or bitget hacks but it wouldn't be long since the hacker seemed savvy in victimizing crypto users. it think it should have been just a pin on the telegram channel.

Keeping your cryptos can be simple as well, install a wallet on an Airgapped device or invest a hundred bucks on hardware wallet which ensures maximum safety for the security of your assets. Most of the hacks due to the people get phished or being a victim of malware, clipboard hijacker attacks which can be avoided if we just stick to the basic. Once we are here we will get familiar with the ecosystem that includes increasing knowledge on every related field that's needed.

I'm just keeping my coins in OWNR wallet and keeping my seed phrase on a piece of paper. I'm using it only on my phone and doing my best to keep it clean. And not using unknown Wi-Fi.

So far I am safe even though I have used various trading market websites and wallet applications and I only use one browser, namely Chrome. To avoid phishing websites, we must really understand which sites are official and which are fake sites. If the site is dangerous it will usually raise a warning sign and we must be able to store our personal data safely and most importantly we don’t fall into it. fraud trap

Just as we investors are attracted to projects that have value, so also scammers are attracted to valuable projects too. For exchange to give you such warning it absolutely means they care about your funds safety so, they'd always build sensitive system to track malicious moves in their platforms that's why your wallet is always demanded to be updated accordingly to enhance security features.
You can always have your crypto assets safe when you've anonymous sites, links, emails and unknown DM on suspect of being scam and do stay away from them and also keep greeds aside because it's also one thing that leads investors to scam victim when scammers launches an attractive projects.
Also, you can have your crypto assets safe when you keep your private keys on your own private mode.

We all go through this and it becomes irritating when we use same device for crypto and personal use because we are bombarded with the scam messages and now they even start calling you through telegram. We cannot avoid them reaching out to us but we can avoid being a victim by ignoring or blocking them as it's not possible to report them individually as we are added in hundreds of such group.

A fraudster will always exist in crypto circles, they will mimic some of the big legitimate projects while they launch their actions so be careful and always verify carefully before you access it.

I saw the news before where someone used the Aggr extension and lost a lot of money because it was a hijack to your computer, again do not store assets on the computer including the seed phrase it can be dangerous if you experience a situation like this.

Maybe your best move is to separate two different PCs maybe this will be safer.

This has been my practice and so far, I didn’t experience any hacking incidents. We have to be more careful dealing with the unfamiliar links and emails because we all know the risk of getting too much exposure and the risk of clicking any links. In crypto, we have to be more careful as many greedy people are just waiting for their opportunity to hack your wallet. Keys should be kept at a safer place along with your hard wallet, better to have your physical back-up as well.
