It might be good news to raise the threshold from 0.01 BTC to 0.03 BTC but you have made the concession very late, you should have reacted sooner. Kruw coordinator has consistently been at the top and as you can see Open Coordinator is way ahead of the 24 hour coinjoin numbers that Ginger Wallet is processing. Both Kruw coordinator and open coordinator are totally free and I think that reflects in the fact less people want to pay to use Ginger Wallet when they can get better coinjoins for free. 🚨 Good news for plebs! 🚨
We’ve just tripled the threshold for our Plebs Don’t Pay policy — from 0.01 BTC to 0.03 BTC.

Do we have any official statistics for how many times Ginger Wallet has been downloaded? Even though it is created from a direct fork of Wasabi Wallet, I would have thought it was very far behind Wasabi Wallet in user numbers. If download statistics were somehow available for both wallets, it would provide a fascinating insight.

Hi, you can check the download statistics through the GitHub API for any public repository. You can also see it for Ginger Wallet there.

Lightning-Fast Experience – No more loading screen; jump straight into your wallet!
I just wonder what changed now, it used to be a loading(syncing) wallet for a while if we open the wallet after long gap and also the initial sync took me a lot more time but now we don't have that anymore? Does this upgrade affect the privacy in any way? Hi, thanks for your question. Here’s a description of what has changed: There have been two key changes to the wallet's loading logic: The loading screen has been removed. The client now waits for background services to initialize before loading the wallet. Let’s take a closer look at each change: Loading screen removal The dedicated loading screen UI has been removed, but this doesn't mean the loading process has changed. Instead, the loading experience has been integrated into the wallet's home screen. Elements that require the wallet to be fully synced now display a loading animation until the relevant data is ready. This redesign is purely a UI/UX improvement and does not alter the underlying logic. However, it may feel faster due to the more modern, research-backed user experience. Regarding "initial loading"—if you’re referring to the phase where the progress bar shows indeterminate progress (i.e., no specific percentage), this is a visual fallback used when the client hasn’t yet gathered enough data to estimate remaining time. During that period, loading functions exactly as it does later on. The experience might feel slower if, for example, the client starts downloading blocks right away. Background service synchronization Previously, if someone launched the software and quickly tried to open a wallet, they could end up stuck—either on the loading screen or on the open wallet page. This happened because the wallet loading process could start before the background services were fully initialized, leading to inconsistent or buggy behavior. This issue is now resolved. The client now ensures that background services are ready before attempting to load the wallet. As a result, you might see the loading spinner for a bit longer after entering your passphrase, especially if you try to open a wallet immediately after starting the application. If your reference to "initial loading" was about this case, that’s likely what you were experiencing. Long story short: The wallet no longer has a separate loading screen; instead, loading indicators are built into the wallet home view. The client also now waits for essential services before starting the wallet loading process, which fixes previous issues that occurred when users opened the wallet too quickly. The loading logic itself hasn’t changed—just the timing and presentation.

You got me curious, so i did quick search about using GitHub API. For those who curious, you can see the raw data on https://api.github.com/repos/GingerPrivacy/GingerWallet/releases. There are also webpage that provide good UI such as https://githubstats.aveek.io/ and https://qwertycube.com/github-release-stats/. IMO the number of total download is rather low. Although total download for macOS is rather high compared with files for linux, which surprised me.

This really is very interesting indeed. The latest version of Ginger Wallet that was updated on 24th July 2025 has been downloaded 256 times (and the previous version 3073 times) whereas the latest version of Wasabi Wallet that was updated on 5th May 2025 has been downloaded 256,780 times. As can happen with any software, not all of those that downloaded it will use and some will uninstall it therefore Ginger Wallet user numbers must be very small (and even smaller when comparing with Wasabi Wallet numbers).

There are many legacy users of Wasabi Wallet, whereas Ginger wallet is a quite new software which does not have so much popularity in the community. Not because it is bad or anything but simply because they do not market it enough. Marketing is important for any software.

Hi, thanks for your question. Here’s a description of what has changed: Thanks for your detailed explanation of what's changed and others also might have this question if they were using Ginger wallet so hope this clears the question as well. What I said as initial loading screen is, when we downloaded the wallet for the first time it took hours for the process to complete and if I understood that correctly that remains same even now or even that works in the background with the new UI/UX?
whereas Ginger wallet is a quite new software which does not have so much popularity in the community. Not because it is bad or anything but simply because they do not market it enough.
Marketing is important for any software.
They tried signature campaign for 8 weeks and then it's paused so I guess it didn't give the result they expected but most of the time long running campaigns will be more effective to reach out to the community than a short burst one. Another reason could be the 0.3% fee, while the same service can be availed for completely free. Funds are important for the development but if there's an option to do the same thing for free then most of the users will go with one that costs nothing so the team may need to look for other ways to raise the fund needed for development and making it 0% fee service will work like magic.

The initial loading can take a bit longer the first time you open Ginger Wallet. This is because the client needs to download filters for privacy reasons. If you're curious, you can read more about the technical background here: https://nopara73.medium.com/bitcoin-core-vs-wasabi-wallet-network-level-privacy-bdca1d501387That said, our new user experience (UX) has made things much smoother for new wallets. Previously, you had to wait for the loading process to complete before doing anything. Now, you're let in instantly and can start receiving or buying Bitcoin right away. However, this faster access does not apply to recovered wallets. For privacy reasons, these need to fully synchronize before they can generate a receiving address or allow you to buy Bitcoin. Also, please note that sending or selling Bitcoin always requires the wallet to be fully synced. Just a quick reminder: in version 2.0.19, we already made the initial loading faster. And for the record, we’re not done yet! We're actively working on further improvements to both the initial load time and the startup time for background services.

Yes, marketing is very important. Also, I cannot argue with anything you stated but I think we agree as far as active users and downloads are concerned, Ginger Wallet is way behind Wasabi Wallet. Even with any positive marketing, I think Ginger Wallet would struggle against Wasabi Wallet because of the mandatory 0.3% fee over their 0.03 BTC threshold. Ginger Wallet cannot compete with Wasabi Wallet because the Open Coordinator and Kruw coordinator are free regardless of the size of the Bitcoin deposit and/or coinjoin. Why would users choose Ginger Wallet and pay a fee when they can use Wasabi Wallet with either Open Coordinator or Kruw coordinator and pay zero fees? There are many legacy users of Wasabi Wallet, whereas Ginger wallet is a quite new software which does not have so much popularity in the community. Not because it is bad or anything but simply because they do not market it enough.
Marketing is important for any software.

Yesterday I downloaded GingerWallet and I think it really needs some changes/improvements.
I'm no coinjoin expert, so I might not be analyzing things properly. But I find it strange that I sent a test limit, and 24 hours later it still hasn't been able to coinjoin. It always says it's waiting for other participants, giving the impression that there are very few users with this wallet.
But what bothered me most was the fact that the installation takes place in a folder we didn't choose. What's even more disappointing is that the app's base files are saved in the system folder, instead of a folder of our choosing. I don't think this should be the case; the user should choose the folder where everything connected to the app is installed.
Maybe I'll try Wasabi, to see what it's like and see if the same thing happens.

A question from someone who is not a great CoinJoin expert.
Mempool.space flags GingerWallet transactions as coinjoin (between us, we know it's true). Unfortunately, many AML services may alert you to this type of transaction. In other words, we guarantee privacy, but we run the risk of having AML flags.
How could this situation be changed? Generate different coinjoin patterns (well that would probably involve more fees)?

Coinjoin detection by explorers and AML tools is inevitable. Change the pattern and they will still adapt.
The problem is not coinjoin itself. It’s criminals laundering funds, which drives risk models that sometimes flag legitimate coinjoin use. Ginger Wallet runs the cleanest coinjoin on the market, giving you strong privacy without shady activity.
I understand, and I'm not saying that Ginger Wallet is doing its job poorly, or that there is a problem with Coinjoin. I'm wondering if there is any way to "combat" this type of scenario. However, another question arose. The plafon is divided among several addresses when we receive funds back from CoinJoin. I noticed that the amount received in each address is random. However, there's the problem that sometimes the amount remaining in a given address is very low. This ends up creating a "problem": if someone wants to use it, they'll have to combine it with another address. Wouldn't it be interesting to define the minimum amount that can be stored at an address?

On your first point, there is unfortunately no definitive way to “combat” blockchain analysis flagging coinjoin transactions. Changing patterns might slightly delay detection, but explorers and AML tools adapt quickly.
Regarding your second point about small amounts in certain outputs: This is a side effect of how the WabiSabi protocol works. It can split your coins into smaller parts to improve privacy, but it can also consolidate them. In Ginger Wallet, our improved coin selection logic takes this further, making consolidation more efficient. You can even enable it in the coinjoin settings.
