I didn't use Ginger wallet for some months now and thought while I was at it to update my other wallets, why not update Ginger, too. I receive coins from campaigns in my Ginger wallet and mostly hodl them for quite some time, but monitor it through a watch-only Electrum wallet.
I must say, it's a bit puzzling that @GingerWallet remains silent about their repo removal, though I don't know when the repo got removed/offline. Not a good sign, to be honest.

Ginger Wallet is working normally, there is no issue with it. Everything is fine on our side. We understand your concern about the repository, but the wallet itself is safe and operational. If there are any updates, we will communicate them.

I guess while you're at it, you should consider moving your codebase to Gitlab. Much better experience for you guys ever since Microsoft started aggressively pushing AI features into Github since a few years ago and in general just straight up suspending people's accounts for no good reason.

These days I visited the bitcoin.org site, and in the recommended wallets, I saw the ginger wallet listed as one of the options for desktop wallets/software wallets, this is a worthy recognition and they should probably be doing a great work.
I don't know how the wallet is currently, but it would be interesting, if it doesn't already exist, to add fee under 1 sat/vB (like 0.1, 0.5 sat/vB) and full support for silent payments.

Those features you mentioned are definitely important, but what Ginger really needs right now is an update to its Tor components to 4.9.0. The current 0.4.8.21 variant will lose network compatibility starting September 1, 2026. This is clearly stated in Tor’s June 23 release. So I think we should expect Ginger’s next release to account for this.

I have not visited bitcoin.org (nor bitcoincore.org) for a very long time therefore have no idea what wallets they are recommending. Having said that, what can be stated about Ginger Wallet is that they charge a fee and they do not allow for users to enter their coordinator. If you use Ginger Wallet you have no choice but to use their coordinator. Wasabi Wallet does allow users to enter a coordinator of their choice (including those that charge 0% fees). On that basis, it becomes an almost pointless exercise to use or recommend Ginger Wallet. You have a point no doubt, the possibility of switching to a coordinator that charges 0% fees is a good differentiator for those who use coinjoin frequently. When I first discovered Ginger Wallet, I downloaded it and one of the features I liked most was the possibility to add a second layer of security, such as protecting wallets with 30-second 2FA Auth. This is the only difference Ginger has over Wasabi (that I know of).

I understand that Ginger Wallet is a for-profit business and they achieve this by taking a very small percentage (0.3%) of mixes that exceed their free limits but they should consider changing their model. If they move over to a donation only system and allow 0% fee coordinators, they might find their wallet is more in demand than before. Ginger Wallet might have concluded that forcing users to use their coordinator is in their benefit but it is the one thing that stops their wallet being downloaded by even more people. You have a point no doubt, the possibility of switching to a coordinator that charges 0% fees is a good differentiator for those who use coinjoin frequently.

Find the latest Ginger Wallet release, namely v2.0.27 . It lets user pay several people in one transaction and also sets fees under 1 sat/vB now, down to 0.1, if the network allows it. Both Coinjoin and Payjoin got extra safety checks and there are are other changes.

I have not been following the development of Ginger Wallet for a long time, especially after posting about their fees on many occasions. At the end of the day, no matter how much of a good quality software/product the Ginger Wallet team release, if they are charging fees and forcing their customers to use their coordinator or to not use the wallet, then that will make it less likely to be downloaded. I don’t know how accurate wabisator.com is. According to them, Ginger Wallet is getting little to no volume on most days in recent months. It is a fine wallet, but they do not really have a competitive advantage over Wasabi, which they are a fork of. There is also almost no awareness of this project and not much communication from the developers. Fees are only charged on inputs greater than 0.03 BTC. For most regular users, these fees will barely affect them. Their lack of popularity mainly comes down to users being apathetic when they’ve not been given a compelling enough reason to replace Wasabi Wallet.

In my view their audience is users with less CoinJoin experience who don’t want to bother selecting suitable coordinator and don’t mind using the fixed default one. Wasabi is for technically savvy users, but Ginger has the right to exist. Below is comparison between the two:

Wasabi Wallet does not force users to use any coordinator and does not charge fees therefore is people want to coinjoin then there are other alternatives to Ginger Wallet. There is virtually no reason to use Ginger over Wasabi, and I'm challenging someone to give me just one reason. - The coordinators on Wasabi charge nothing beyond the wasted dust. Ginger wallet charges some percentage for big inputs.
- Ginger is a fork of Wasabi, and it does not inherit the latest security and privacy improvements, at least not on time.
- Kruw's coordinator is a lot more liquid than Ginger's, and could get your coins private in just one coinjoin.
