Stealing is Stealing no matter how you tried to justify it to let it not seem bad, if you want to help the poor and needy, when you still and if you're caught no one will pardon you because you stole to give to the poor.
The case in this whole scenario is different, some times in other to get what we want or claim justice we have to play along or more likely foolish untill it gets to the height of it all. That friend is living under threat, his actions may not be justifiable because he is involved but on how this is presented should tell how he rebukes it but has to commit to be able to save himself and aswell indirectly from the funds carter for the masses.

Let me believe what he awaits is  to gain more political power before he will freely oppose all the wrong deeds that has been going on, politicians are smart they no when it is time to back off after a while of endurance. If he can be able to give account of how he spent all the collected money on the masses then It is still working same purpose as per the main reason for the money, just that it happened indirectly.

I agree.
Stealing for ANY reason is wrong - PERIOD. He needs to root out the corruption, not take money from it even though he takes it 'to do good'.

Stealing, fraud, racketeering, none of it is right. Never take anything that doesn’t rightly belong to you. We all work hard for what we have & we can sleep with a clean conscience. Nobody should be stealing & giving the proceeds to poor people, students or whatever.

There is never good justification for stealing be it that it was used to save a life or to rescue someone in bondage or whatsoever, if you need help you can always ask people for help as there are a lot of genuine people who are willing to help instead of making an excuse for stealing. No matter what we want to do with something that does not belongs to us but we should always learn to seek for their consent before using what belongs to others.

There's the saying that two wrongs can't make a right. If this friend of yours is upright and full of integrity, why not quit instead of joining the bandwagon. Now some people will say it's better to use it for a foundation where you can touch lives than use it to enrich your life and that of your generation but still, it's bad.
You are being a gracious donor won't change how the money was being gotten. The thing with most of these politicians is that they try to make themselves look good by awarding scholarships to youths in their community, involving in the development of their local governments and all that with funds that should develop the state or country! Which for me is the same thing as saving those funds for your generation because instead of it to bless the nation, it will reach only a select few.

you know that when we talk about stealing, we have two context to possibly look at from the OPs point of view. If it was a literal stealing where he directly takes what belongs to another person and gives it to another who he feels is poor, then that sort of act could be looked at as one that's totally wrong. But when we're considering a case where government owned public funds is involved and you're dealing with cabals that have the ability to hurting you if you handle the matter carelessly, it's necessary we don't just judge the fellow blindly.

In my opinion, exiting the office won't do him and the public any good, it will even deny the public the little previledges they are even Enjoying. If it's possible for him to remain as part of the government and keep on helping the people with funds that comes into his hands, it's better to keep doing that. But if you want to play safe,  the best option will be to come out from such circle so you don't make them look at you as a potential threat and plan how to do away with you.
There is no difference between stealing from person and stealing public money. Theft is a theft, no matter from where you're taking money.
If people justify it, then they shouldn't complain about bad healthacre, education or roads.
And no, if you can't change them, then join them isn't excuse.

Nothing bad has produced good results in the long time. You cannot use a bad egg to make a good food neither will you plant a bad seedling and expect good yields. Two wrongs don't make a right. This is a validation to the fact, he cannot steal and use the poor people as a tool to continue with such wrongdoing.

He did not justify that he did good because he knew full well that it was stolen money. If he shouldn't do that, what is the solution for him? If you were in his shoes, what would you do? Would you stand up and expose those corrupt people and let your whole family be threatened or even killed? You will sacrifice your life and your family's to fight corruption but you cannot guarantee whether it will succeed or fail? Have you ever been involved in politics or are you just frustrated with what politicians are doing and give advice based on your feelings?

I believe he knows what he is doing and the consequences if he is caught and charged with corruption, but it is still better than him standing up alone against a corrupt organization like a grasshopper kicking a car. Remember he is standing alone against a corrupt government, no one will support him if he stands up.

Some people are not getting the story, from the beginning the man in question never wanted to take but since you're in you're in and if he wants to be stubborn like saying he's not taking the money his life and probably that if his family will be in danger (because they might see him as someone to expose them) so he had to play along and we shouldn't forget that is only God that knows the heart of man.
So back to what I was saying, this guy is not using the funds or illegal funds as the case maybe, he isn't using it to change his life or something but making use of that ILLEGAL FUNDS to change things that the other politicians are not doing like the schools, markets, even giving the public good water and all that, not like he is being selfish like the others, let's say he is using those illegal money for good and he should be applauded or appreciated for that because we hardly see such people these days in the political sector.

A right and positive thinking mind will not take the option of stealing all because he wanted to give to the poor, we can't afford to give what we don't have, and stealing is not the best and perfect means to give, because such giving is at the expense of others, we can't give what we don't have, giving is not by force, it is done because we have the understanding and the realization of what we have not to be meant for us alone, but we care in giving to others who are in need.
if everyone is silent and rejects the wrong system, how can we experience positive change in our society? if you are in the company of people who are involved in things that are against what is right for you, as such do not portray yourself as a good person in that place.

politics is a dirty game, I have heard many stories of how people of integrity who enter politics with good intentions to bring about good governance are blackmailed and threatened.

politics is never a game for the weak and it is best to use your head like your friend did otherwise things may get messy for him and his family too.

If everyone keeps quiet and refuse fighting against faulty systems, how will we experience positive change in our society?  If you're in a company of people who are involved in things that's contrary to what's right for you, don't try to paint yourself as the good egg in the place. Walk away and save your conscience and reputation from being associated with what's not right. Right is right and wrong is wrong. Doing something that's right to cover up for what's wrong doesn't make your wrong right.
Honestly that’s all about life sometimes you might be right and at times you might be wrong but the best things is that a person should not be show up his self as he be something at all the times, if it will even allow who no suppose dis respect talk any thing they like against pert.

The all society is all all a about keep your people be happy always, but a lot of people’s didn’t understand that some will be find a way that it can pushed people in society and which is not good, As a good leader he supposed be fighting for society to bring better things to the society so that each and everyone can enjoy.

He knows that those funds he receives are illegal but he vowed not to use them for his personal needs. What is your opinion on this matter?
Wow, your friend trying to exonerate himself from a kleptomaniac system filled with klepttes but he's no different from the people in the system he claims to have hate for in as much as he is accepting those funds that aren't originally meant to flow into his pocket. Whether or not he is giving scholarships sponsoring and providing developmental projects in his ward using that money doesn't change the fact that the very money wasn't meant to go through the channel it's passing through.

If he as was really against receiving that money he would have quietly resigned because at the end of it all when the long arm of the law eventually caches up on them the law won't bend for him because he didn't use the money for personal gain but on his ward. It's really sadden that are always the bad people in majority number in every political society than the good guys whose voices can't go far.

The topic just made me think of Robin Hood. Robin Hood was a legendary outlaw who stole from the rich and gave to the poor. He's often seen as a hero who fought against corruption and injustice.

It lso made me think of the word 'the end does not justify the means.' The phrase 'the end does not justify the means' means that even if the outcome is good, the methods used to achieve it can still be wrong. In the case of the politician, he knows that they are doing something wrong with the office, but when the loot gets to him, he uses it to set up a charity foundation. The facts still remains that what is good is good and what is wrong is wrong, but I believe that there are always exceptions in every case.
But I mean, his intentions are good; it's just that the office he is in is corrupt, and besides, he has been threatened. And we are all human beings here; we care about our life and our family. And I know to a point, if we say, 'Oh, we are Christians or we believe in God,' we should be ready to die for the truth, but you know, most times, human beings, that's not the case. We still want to live, it's a difficult balance to strike.

I've seen scenarios where the person was once a thief, repented, used the money to set up a good foundation, and when it's time to arrest all these thieves, those people are spared, like, you've really changed and you're really doing a good course.

So, I can't be assertive that, oh, crucify him, because it's not easy to be in a government office, and we'll tell ourselves the truth. So, if he has other options to get a better job and just resign, I think he will go with that. Hopefully, they will let him resign in peace and not come after his life. The world is not black and white, so let's try not to be so judgmental

I have a friend who was elected into a political office. Before he was elected he was well known for his uprightness and integrity. Now, his new office is filled with corruption in the form of looting of government funds. He told me that when the allocation from the central government comes, the chairman of the local government will call them and give them a large amount for their upkeep. But they still receive their monthly salary and allowance.

He is well aware that the allocation was for the development of the local government, but he is forced to take it since almost all the elected officers are collecting it. The first time he rejected the money, he received a threat that he would be impeached or violently attacked. This is because his colleagues are scared that he might reveal the corruption that is going on in the local government.

My friend decided to set up a foundation that gives scholarships and builds schools. With the illegal funds, he usually receives every month, he has been able to finance the education of many poor students in his ward and has also built and refurbished a few schools.

He knows that those funds he receives are illegal but he vowed not to use them for his personal needs. What is your opinion on this matter?
Yes, what your friend does is likely 8% morally wrong. Here is why. When someone threatened to harm him, he apparently didn't do anything about it but fold like a wet noodle. The appropriate response is to report him to the appropriate authorities, whether that is the county sheriff, or a biker gang who will mop the floor.

The primary reason why is that taxation is theft. However, 85% of people enjoy their money getting stolen and enjoy stealing from others because they are not libertarians, are are guilty of supporting the very theft that occurs. Therefore, 85% of people should get nothing back. From the 15% of people who do deserve their money back because they reject the violent illegal immoral slavery, extortion, and theft of taxation, about half the money actually isn't stolen by rather printed by a printing press at the Federal Reserve. In that case, the money isn't stolen, it is a form of fraud for which there isn't much of a resolution for. That leaves about 8% of people who actually should get the money back.

So instead of giving to the poor, he should give 8% of the money back to libertarians. Which of them? Any of them who pay taxes. I'd suggest using a specific selection process. Modern government is a total fail in dozens of extreme ways to the point where it is collapsing. I advocate for a Cooperative Republic in which each person decides for them self who represents them (https://bitbucket.org/metanexom/rainbow-road/downloads/Caroasi_2024Jul.pdf).

There is no measure to justify corruption or stealing whether you use the money to develop the vulnerable people or you use it for self development. I no he was in a tight situation regarding the threat to his life for trying to reject the money but if truly his a man of integrity as you claimed I think the best thing he should have done is to resigned from the force and sue them for corruption and threat to his life and by so doing they will be afraid to go after his life since the case is already made public and registered in the court of law.

First of all, what your friend does is illegal (NO WAY Shocked) and may led him into trouble if someone discovers it, so regardless of what he is doing with these money, it may be not worth the risk.

Second, he spends his money inefficiently. No amount of money spent on public education has ever improved academic performance of students - anywhere, in any city, in any country, at any time in the history, all around the world. Well, it may have been true for some time in the history, but now we know that academic performance depends way more on the students than on the teachers, and funding education does not lead to anything. If anything, we need less public education. What your friend is doing is virtue signaling before himself without realizing the dangers of his "good deeds". Would your friend really want to use stolen public funds to waste them no way more efficient than the government does? I guess no.

Making money illegally is a punishable offence.  Advise everyone not to join auto car gangs like this because it's better not to do anything with the stolen money.  But it is good to do all the work he is doing but he has to take the responsibility of the thief.  No matter how great a deed he does, his lack of stealing will be a lifelong sin for him.  Therefore, one should not earn any money or build an educational institution with that money by stealing. It is always better to build an educational institution, a mosque, a madrasa with the money of a great work.  So I don't support his profession, I always support good work.

That is not right if you give the money from corruption because we will say that is a sin whether they don't knows from where the money comes. If your friend know that office many corruption happens, he doesn't have to join them and still work with his uprightness and integrity. If he give his money from his salary and not from the corruption, that will be okay because he doesn't commits corruption. But that will not easy to survive in the corruption that his friends commit and he needs to get out from that if he still have heart to think. The last decision he can do is retired from his job and leave everything related to corruption. But that will depends on him because he needs to think more about that.

He knows that those funds he receives are illegal but he vowed not to use them for his personal needs. What is your opinion on this matter?
so in essence, when the law eventually catches up with them for the groose misappropriation of funds, he's going to give excuses that he uses his allotment for the establishment of local project in the community? And it's supposed to be understandable that he's trying to act like a good person in the midst while still benefiting from the faulty system? what he did is not different from what most politicians do. They take the allocation that's supposed to be used for the needs of the masses, embezzles the most of them and use just a slight fraction of it for some developmental projects so as to shut people out from complaining.

What you said is not wrong, but if you were him, what would you do in that situation?

One thing is certain, if he stands up and exposes the hypocrisy of the rest, he will be removed from office or worse, he will be killed. Not only that, the safety of his family members is even threatened, or worse, ends tragically.

If you live in a country that values human rights like the United States, you will likely be defended by the opposition party for your actions. But if you come from a third world country with a corrupt political system: either you quietly resign or you die if you don't adapt to them.

Politics is not as simple as you think, just stand up, expose and fight, you will be supported by everyone and become an icon. Once you enter politics, you either die or join the crowd.

In my country, many honest politicians suddenly died and their families disappeared overnight, those stories are still circulating among the people and that is why no politician dares to stand up for the people these days.
Stealing is morally wrong but in politics it seems to be a normal thing for them, they will embezzle public funds without any remorse and any new politicians that is not willing to join their looting becomes a threat to them. I believe that it's easy to criticize from the outside but if you hear about how these corrupt politicians makes life unbearable for incorruptible politicians then you will understand that it is a dirty game. And quite unfortunately it seems like if you don't have what it takes in terms of being crafty then you don't have what it takes to become a politician.

For a politician to have the guts to fight corruption among corrupt politicians depends on how human rights and freedom of expression is being respected in that country, whether they are practicing true democracy or dictatorship regimes. I believe that in a country like America, a politician can speak out against corruption and get justice and protection from the government with support of the people. But in countries where human rights are not respected it's either that you join them in corruption or don't become a politician. Aspiring politician must know how politics is played in their countries before contesting and decide whether he or she can fit into the system. Fighting for true change is not easy in a corrupt government, it can cost the politicians to live in fear and even lose of life.
