Ever had the urge of just trying to get a win for your ego?

I had a topic like Do you have a team or player on which you keep losing bets no matter what? and I obviously stated in it as an example the race track at Lingfield  My money pit I should know better not to touch again!

Now that most tracks in UK are frozen and Lingfield is on poly it's one of the few that run, so, out of boredom I played, they had 5 clear favorites under 1/1, one was 1/6, you can guess what happened, all 6 bets on favorites lost, all 4 bets on placing from the 3rd horse lost, 4 EW lost, I won't even say tricast cause, well, D'oh!!!

So here I am, bored to death and I'm looking at the next Chelmsford City race and I feel that I should both stay out of this for the day and also just place a damn bet to win at least once so, my question for the other bettors, what do you do in such a scenario
- go out and just accept that you failed miserably at an event you know you're really bad at
- try to get at least a bet right to have at least one win for your ego
- or even one step higher, try to recoup the bets (no way I'm doing that)

If you have spent money more than you want, just not only go out and just accept that you failed miserably at an event you know you're really bad at, also make sure you do not bet for now and cool your mind. That is how gambling and betting should be. If I were you, I will not even think of gambling at all for now. Gambling is fun but I hate too much losses. But if you are still within the money that you can afford to lose, you can continue having the fun. But beyond it is not fun at all.

You stated it yourself that you are really bad at the event, unless it is fun for you watching the races and you wouldn't mind throwing some funds at it again, I don't think you should bet again at what you don't know much about.

I would not bet just for my ego, if you are experiencing serious losing streaks, that means you may have to loose a very big sum just to feel good and win just once. For me it is a very irrational thing to do. I better accept the defeat and preserve my funds for other important things, but who knows, your next bet might land you a big win. So do what you want.

Also, it depends on the allocated funds I have left for the day's gambling session. If I have more left for the day, then why not let the fun continue?

I think i will tuck my tail firmly between my legs and do just this, if i try to recoup what i have lost, i will lose more and on and on it goes. I love football gambling, and there are many weekends i try only the EPL early kickoff game, if it fails, i quickly try to pick some of the games for later that day, and guess what, it mostly fails. So for sometime now i try not to play only the early kickoff game, lol. I am sure it is just superstition, but it keeps happening, so time for a change, lol.

It is a quick way to get poor. Don’t get obsessed over any money issues. Don’t get obsessed with gambling, trading, making money in general. Just take the right steps and money will be running towards you. You don’t even go to it.

So when your ego takes the control of your common sense, it means you getting obsessed with gambling.

Then it is going to end badly because you are not following any common sense anymore. You are wagering money like a monkey at that point. How could that end good?

Well after failing miserably and you accept it then this is enough reason to not get back anymore in gambling. The fact is though that many players keep coming back despite knowing the fact that they are trying insanity, the same thing all over again and again and expecting different results. This is the real problem most people do not get back and accept the fact that they failed, they want a come back and an affirmation of their own and their ego is what drives them into this. This also led me into it for years but from some months now I am happily living without depositing more than 10-20 dollars of my own. That is what most people should aim to do, to accept the fact that they are not good at and should not try again.

That's what I usually do. I accept my fate. I  know perfectly well that I could have failed even at an event I knew I was really good at, so, bad luck is bad luck, maybe next time. That's an ideal situation of course. Sometimes I want to have at least one win for my ego, but that's so wrong. Guys, never give up resisting that urge.

haha it’s probably a bad thing to admit but we do sometimes bet so that our ego gets fed it’s the truth maybe not for some people but definitely the truth for a lot of us nothing would satisfy our ego more than winning a bet and making more money

does this mean we should do it though? frequently? no is my answer especially if you are already way past your budget sure the potential win would probably feel so good but once you lose it will destroy your confidence and your wallet so it’s pretty risky

It was never about the money, I still have self control when it's R4/5 races on poly!
The thing is how damn did I lose 19 bets in 6 races! I just wanted one win, not that it would change something in terms of $!

But if you are still within the money that you can afford to lose, you can continue having the fun. But beyond it is not fun at all.

Money was never the issue, the problem is the frustration of knowing you're bad on low-level horse racing that runs on either poly or sand and you still try to do it because, for god's sake its gambling, how in the name of god can't you get even a 5% bet right even if you put them blindfolded, it's randomness, right?  

But anyhow, I missed option 4!
So, I want a win, I want desperately to just win even if it's once cent, I don't care about the odds, so can anyone guess based on this picture what I did?   This is the product of pure boredom!

I will prefer to accept my defeat rather then putting more money in gambling to benefit the house. Gamblers who lost everything in betting are the ones who keep on putting money in gambling to either make up loses or satisfy there ego. In this process they lost everything to the house. It's very important that we must understand the consequences of putting money blindly in gambling. If you can't accept your loss and keep control over your emotions then better stay away from gambling. Gambling should be for fun only not for satisfying your ego or cover up loses.

Definitely accepting defeat for the day, perhaps I'm not in competition with anyone nor the house. If one continues trying to prove your ego it will only end up draining your little risk-able fiat or crypto so will rather give up for the day and try again next time.  Ur if you're confident on yourself enough you can try to make a recovery only at your risk.

Ego is something we must balance and cant say we should just let it go but the harder we think and cope with that the more get frustrated.

Hearing a 19 bets without a win is really something we cant sleep it about. I get you on that part but nothing much to do but accept. Better luck next time mate

There is no reason for all this as a gambler it's always better to accept defeat than allow our pride and ego destroy us ultimately. Gambling is very simple but if we attached so much value to how much we would win makes it looks like a bad activity, the major thing are to look towards the fun moment we are having while gambling and when the money has been exhausted then we quit but if by any means while gambling and we stake money to it and win then fine it's a plus to our overall gambling moment but shouldn't allow our ego control us where we can't know our limits.

Well mine is kind of a crazy story. Manchester city has always been a very reliable team for anyone who place football bet. Manchester city gives everyone great opportunities regardless of if you take them straight win, over or even first half win, but not too long ago they have had a bad run of form and honestly that cost me alot.
My friends has been telling me to avoid them but still I believed in them and I always take them fast forward to last week I finally won with Manchester city vs westham as my last game. That win was really for my ego and it really gave me joy.

I think this topic doesn't apply only for sports, It apply for slots and casinos games too... I have been stucked with some slots games in the past like Nitropolis from ELK, that slots is a money eatir, the animations are cool but getting a big win is Just imposible.

And with sports I get some bat luck with the end of Conor McGregor, he used to be an easy money bet, but in the Last fight he makes me lose money.

I don’t want to sound as if I’m advising someone to chase after their losses because that’s what this option looks like - but if I was ever in your shoes this is what I would have done. I would have reduced my bet and go for the one I know or believe are the most likely to give me a win and this time I won’t make multiple bets but just one because sometimes losing multiple bets might give you that feeling that you’re starting to lose your touch so I’d just make one bet and make sure I win so as to satisfy my “ego” and also to remind myself that no one is perfect when it comes to gambling.

Yes. I'm almost sure that it has nothing to do with real chance, but the day I feel that it is not my day I usually quit and try to focus on a different thing. You can always try another day, with a better disposition than after a losing spree.
