Observation - It’s been going on as a gossip or will I say argument. That players of nowadays are more focus on making money rather than playing for passion like the old days.
I also can strongly say that passion for football ends in Ronaldo and Messi ERA.
So many headlines has been flying around, about players either wanting to change clubs because they want to secure a huge paycheck. While others still in their current club demanding a pay rise to a new contract.
The Saudi Arabia side has now made it more obvious by opening the door to players who are more interested in money than passion to come in.
I need more clarity on this matter, which is the reason I brought it on here. Please when commenting let there fact that will be helpful
I personally am just not happy when there are young players with great potential, but choose to be willing to play in the Saudi Pro League. That is clearly a very unfortunate choice if it happens, because so far their transfers are still based on rumors but as time goes by, they might be willing to accept the Saudi Arabian offer. But about the passion for football, for me there is still passion in young players, they just need time and process, the reality is that football is still interesting even though Ronaldo and Messi are no longer playing in the top Europe team. The passion for football is clearly still very much felt, unlike MotoGP when V. Rossi decided to retire, the passion at MotoGP seems to have completely disappeared. About bets that prioritize profit, for me it is the same as in the past. After all, their target in betting is to get money with the pleasure of winning. So, only a handful of gamblers really throw away a lot of money in gambling just for the pleasure of adrenaline.

Nothing new under the sun, I think. I know what you are talking about when you say the passion for football seems to have faded away with the end of the dominance of Messi and Ronaldo, opening a path to new players who may not be as interested in becoming legends, but only partake in football (and other sports) for the sake of profit and to get better contracts in foreign leagues. One cannot blame them, though, it does not matter what profession one has chosen to earn money, one will always move towards where the best salaries and contracts are, one does not need to be a football player to experience that. if anyone in my family was given the opportunity to start from the beginning in a company, with a better salary, more spare time and even medical benefits, it would be a no-brainer, the change would be almost instant. The same is happening to the new generation of football players and sport professionals, before thinking of what the sport means to them, then need to secure their future economically.

Sports is a business, being an athlete is not a forever career and that's why they're deciding for their fate and future. If a player transfers from here and there negotiating with better terms and contract, it's because that's how it goes. It's a normal business for them to secure a large paycheck that will satisfy them. They've got millions? they want more and they deserve that based on their assumptions while some doesn't and still get a huge secured contract. So, there is nothing new when it comes to these and that's why being an athlete isn't all about physicality and the passion for the sports but also being business minded.

I don't fully agree because there are still some different thoughts in assessing why players prefer to play in a league that is more dominant in getting money than a career.
If a player's goal before being famous is to aspire to become a professional player who plays in a famous league and club. That takes effort and hard work. Not necessarily a rich club like the Saudi league will bring in players without knowing the player and not all players want to quickly end their fame because they play in a league and team that is ready to pay them more salary and contract.
After the Messi and Ronaldo era ends, there will be another era of great players. You have to believe that. Regarding money, yes rich clubs can get the players they want. That's not good enough.

The fact is that players go for money and that is just it. Just that their career in the process is also intertwined with money and of course, success. The simple way to know this is that if there is no more money in sport today, you will not see those players that is working hard to play for their country and aiming to get into one of the best clubs in the world not play sport anymore but go to other fields instead where they can see opportunities. Everything is about money.

So you think Messi and Ronaldo didn’t play for the pay at any point in their life? If they had so much passion for the sport they could have just stayed in the little league and played there as far as they decided to play for the top teams and also receive nice pay I’ll say that they too were there for the pay just that they had so many options due to their talents and past records while those we’re seeing now are not like them so it will look as if they are just there eagerly looking for a way to up their pay or career.

I am sure that this was what people also said during the Pele and Maradona era. People also would have said this during the Kaka and Ronaldinho era. Nobody is the custodian of football passion And we shouldn't be worried about passion for football ending with Ronaldo and Messi because I don't understand what that is. Fans should calm down and judge the football passion based on how much people are still interested in watching the game. They should also jusdge football passion by how much the game has improved. Saudi Arabia is doing what they can to attract top talent and they have the money for it. After Messi moved to America for the money and Ronaldo did the same for the money. Yes, you can both play for the passion and money.

Not because they are asking for more money or negotiating for a better deal, they lose their passion on the sports they are playing. They can't negotiate for a better deal if the team sees that the player has no passion, skill, or will to win because teams are looking for players who can contribute to the team's success. Players are not your regular contract workers; they know their worth, and they want to negotiate for a better deal in exchange for their passion and skills.

This has been seen already as a common tradition because some people will only to infatuated to gamble because of the money they are likely to receive from it, that is if they win, while some will only be more focused to how they are going to get entertained in it, but having this two mixed reactions is what is inevitable in the gambling section, we may have to choose the type of gambler we also belong to here. I also can strongly say that passion for football ends in Ronaldo and Messi ERA. Have there not been players who have shown more commitments and skills before the two of them in time past, their own time is gone and now its about Messi and Ronaldo, which in due time also, we are going to have some new era of players to take over soon from them and be more better in their own style.

Most people continue to get involved in gambling because of money. Regarding football, Ronaldo and Messi also charge very high salaries. They're not just playing for passion. Twenty years ago, players were more dedicated. They weren't playing to appear in pretty photos on social media or in newspapers. But nowadays, players on the field are worried about looking good in photos, because their marketing manager tells them that they need to score goals in X and X positions so that the photo will attract more interest from companies.

Many big stars came out of football for reaching a ripe age. It's normal, it's the natural course of things.
But I can't understand why the two of these chose to go to sub par teams just for marketing and money purposes. They could have retired and live a happy life gracefully already as multi millionaires. The era's end was kind of spoiled by that for me.
And it feels too much of a sellout now. I think this will also make it harder for future generations to appreciate what we had because it's all marketing, no heart now.

On the other hand players might really perform very well in this high stakes environment, specially if they have been well payed by the Saudi. So I also disagree with that kind of money that players are just here for the money and not have the passion like the old days. Of course, era ends, the type of game play will evolved overtime, but it doesn't mean that in this new era, players are just focus on the money itself. So elite athletes could have elevated their game because they are motivated and doesn't want that trust the the management give to them with that huge contract to be just go out of the window by not playing very hard or doesn't have the passion as if just going to the motions. They should have known better than that.

We can't judge them about their choices because for sure they have other personal considerations that we are not seeing here. Of course, as a fan or follower, you would hope that they won't choose owed to money alone. However, at the end of the day, it is their life and we don't now what they are going thru why opting for such route. So for me, I don't incriminate them for choosing that path, because I don't know their considerations or struggles in life.

Yes actually this has a lot to do with how the game and players are managed lately. Gone are the days when football was totally for entertainment, now it's more of a business activity.
There's lots of endorsements, sponsorships and promotions that clubs are entitled to, so players want to get their own fair share of it.
Agents negotiate high allowances for these players and most times they opt for the clubs that can afford their exorbitant fees rather than the ideal club for them to perform optimally.

I know what you are talking about when you say the passion for football seems to have faded away with the end of the dominance of Messi and Ronaldo, opening a path to new players who may not be as interested in becoming legends, but only partake in football (and other sports) for the sake of profit and to get better contracts in foreign leagues. doesn’t it come hand in hand? ronaldo and messi wouldn’t have been known for who they are today if they weren’t picked up by the big leagues to be a legend would mean you would also be one of the highest paid players because for you to be paid highly it means your talent and skills are needed by the club it is the equivalent of wanting to be promoted in a job even if it is not in football One cannot blame them, though, it does not matter what profession one has chosen to earn money, one will always move towards where the best salaries and contracts are, one does not need to be a football player to experience that.
we can apply this logic everywhere if you keep going for your passion but it doesn’t make any money, will you really continue it still even if it is making you and your family suffer already? most jobs are not done by people who are passionate about them

Someone said the introduction of gambling has made everyone focus on making money rather than having passion for the game. Also everyone is focus on marketing and promoting games, which has also made the players want to have this own percentage from it too.

It's not only happening in soccer. Look at the NFL and how some players are unselfish and willing to restructure their contracts so that the team can spend some money on a free agent that can help them win vs those that will not restructure and want all the money they can get. NBA players that will delay signing a contract unless they get offered a max deal. The LIV golf league that paid millions to take players away from PGA before they all merged.
People in all sports are chasing the bag. The world is greedy. Shit happens I suppose. I'm sure players still have some passion left in them, but doesn't change the fact that they want to get paid and have security for their families or their habits.

Football like every other professional sports are people's careers and you would expect them to play for money because it's a job for them. What has changed is that a lot of money and glamour has entered into top sports like football and players wants to get a piece of everything. Every player wants to retire very rich and so they want to play in top leagues where they can make a lot of money. I agree that it's about the money for them and you can't blame them for it, infact transfer speculations are one of the factors that makes modern football to become very interesting.

I don't fully agree because there are still some different thoughts in assessing why players prefer to play in a league that is more dominant in getting money than a career.
When I first read your post, I could only be silent because I think there is some truth to it. Especially in your words, it's all about money. So what do we want now if the condition of the football sport that we follow and watch every season is like that? Rich clubs can buy any player. Then we will only see this situation continue to our children and grandchildren? The most likely thing that can change all of this lies in the players themselves. It could also be done by implementing rules agreed upon by parties who have the capacity regarding this.

I don’t think such rules can be implemented as we see that no one is really to settle for less. Not even gambling companies now sponsors
