There's two topics on two forums called Trump's legacy: from millions of barrels of oil to millions of BTC? they're identical. Moving some wordings in other postings doesn't make it different posts they're the same. The post's made in bitcointalk at 6.59AM. It's directly copied in altcoinstalks at 8.02AM with disclaimer about original post on bitcointalk saying it isn't plagiarism. Is plagiarism in bitcointalk allowed if you're adding disclaimer ? Plagiarism rules in bitcointalk are strict so if he'd posted in altcoinstalks first & copied on bitcointalk with disclaimer would it be removed ? In bitcointalk would banning be considered if he'd posted in altcoinstalks first & copied on bitcointalk with disclaimer ?

So far you referenced it, there is no problem.
But I do not like that idea. If I have something similar to post about, I will prefer it in my own way and not plagiarized. I only do this if I am the original poster on the other forum.
I can not copy content on Altcoinstalks to Bitcointalk. I will prefer to copy it from Bitcointalk to Altcoinstalks.

Having a link is not necessary if you make it clear in the text that you are not the author (for example, something like that... I want to share with you what I read there or there) or use "x" for phrases that you are not the author of.

By the definition of plagiarism, the person is not a plagiarist if you copy something even if it's the entire thread word for word and post it somewhere, and at the end of the day you return credit to the original author or forum where you copied it from; it's not plagiarism by definition.
But in a normal sense, that's not the right thing to do; some will prefer to quote the other thread from the other forum if they want to bring the discussion in there and share their own opinion under the post with a reference link if possible. That's far better and more acceptable to avoid misunderstanding and query.

It can be the name of a person, an organization or a site as the reference but I prefer to add link to it. But thanks for mentioning it to make it clearer to people. Is it because you'll be banned in bitcointalk but you won't be banned in altcointalk if you copied content in that order ?
I can not be banned on Bitcointalk but because all what I referenced before on both forums have always been from Bitcointalk. I do not even post on the forum like before when I noticed that they do not care about privacy like this forum. I like theymos for that as he does not interfere with people's privacy, no matter what is going on within the forum.

What you mentioned doesn't really affect Bitcointalk but that other forum, so its their problem (so long as the post is made on Bitcointalk first). Is plagiarism in bitcointalk allowed if you're adding disclaimer ?
Going back to this subject, sure, but its usually referred to as "adding a citation". In bitcointalk would banning be considered if he'd posted in altcoinstalks first & copied on bitcointalk with disclaimer ?
I'd say so, if the users are clearly different people. (edit: I didn't see the "with disclaimer" part at the end, so no, its not plagiarism) If the users are known to be one and the same then I'd say no. There's a lot of projects that will copy and paste material from their website, Reddit, Twitter, etc., and it isn't deemed plagiarism. (You can't get banned for plagiarizing yourself, as already evidenced by the post recycling debacle of SmokerFace/worldofcoins... its just "post recycling".)

I say a little bit of plagiarism is OK, as long as the source is referenced. It's the way the world works - you are given teaser content to convince you to see more.

I'm suggesting you to take a look at my recent report on the AI Report Thread, link -> here. This user has been posting AI "analysis" and controversial subjects for months, I don't recall ever seeing one of his posts before, but I could be wrong. I'm actually surprised that during this time, he has slipped off our hands and he hadn't been reported yet. He's halfway to full member with almost 50 merit. Not only that, but the other moron from Altcointalks is plagiarising AI written content, thinking he's a smartass, and on top of that, he likely has an account here already. I searched in the Altcointalks forum through his application on a signature campaign didn't find any matches with his BTC address.

Plagiarism rules in bitcointalk are strict so if he'd posted in altcoinstalks first & copied on bitcointalk with disclaimer would it be removed ?
It's not plagiarism IMO, the altcointalks' author didn't sound s/he owns the topic/posts so i will not consider it as plagiarism. Even if we say it was posted the other way around — copied from altcoinstalk then post it here, it will be the same.

Yes it is allowed. You can't say that something is plagiarism if original source link was posted. Some members also have duplicate accounts in different forums and they can even post the same content without reference link, but that is not happening so often.

I've always stated that copy/pasting the entire content is stealing advertising revenue from that website, so I would yes it is plagiarism. Some websites do care about this and state it clearly that only parts of the articles are to be copied. Some (actually a lot) don't state anything. Some few probably don't even care. However, imho the rules that matter the most are the rules from here. And if you copy/paste you have to either be the poster of both, either say it - in a way or another - that it's not yours. Best is to back link. But sometimes that's not feasible (eg when you just remember the information and you reproduce it - better or worse - from memory). It actually doesn't matter. Imho when one is unsure something can/may be plagiarism, better stay on the safe side and quote + backlink. As simple as that. I'll add that how Bitcointalk users perceive the situation may also depend per case. what I mean is that in some cases / users it's about quickly getting fame and merits (and will be reported on sight), in some other cases it could (?) be a stupid mistake like quoting from memory without realizing it was read from somewhere. I'd say that it depends what % of the (user's overall) writing is plagiarism. The edge case I wrote here is a case I'd rather PM and ask to add quotes and backlink than report it as plagiarism. However, yes, it's still plagiarism. As I said, stay on the safe side.

Way back in 2020, I made a similar post here in the meta thread like yours. The member is still active now, but he has laid low from what he used to do regularly after I made that post. I guess he got warning from moderator or the campaign manager told him that his posts wouldn’t be counted if he only made that kind of post. Here's the post I made: I just notice this Legendary account that he just copy-pasting the article and giving a reference to the copied article. Also posting minute interval some of his posts. Do you guys consider this a forum violation?
Hosemary also made post about the account I mentioned.

I was about to point this out. The idea of plagiarism is copying the content of someone else, if you are the original author, you do not have to add a link of the source when posting it somewhere else as you are the source. In some situations, it will help to include the first time it was posted, but not always. - Jay -

The question of plagerism should instead appear on Altcoinstalks to be discussed and not here in BTT.
But in which ever way, here is not an educational institution. Putting such a disclaimer is ok, the most important thing is not to claim what you didn't author.

Plagiarism is bad and no one should involve him/herself in it, i once had a big account here before and it was flagged because of spam and plagiarism, and i have actually learnt my lessons because i knew i was guilty and had accepted. I hope i attain the top and more merits in my originality journey.
