Got a PM about asking for Money!

Since i normally i dont get this kind of PMs from Users and i checked the posting history of that User i write here.

And because that shasan is one of them that have done some interaction with that User i will write that here to be sure that nothing bad gets happend.

To be clear i dont want that kind of PMs from Users that i dont know or even have got a write in the past.
So thats why i calling it out here as i guess it belongs maybe here.

The User nakamura12 sended me a PM and asked about 5$ if i have them spare.
My my concern about that is that if he is doing that with a lot of other Users it smells phishy at some way.

I dont know if other Users also received that PM , just wanted to be aware it.
@nakamura12 please dont do that again , for now i havnt reported your PM.
If you struggle with loans or money then write to the people that it belongs for.

I suggest that you should reach someone through their telegram/discord etc instead, I would say sending PM in this forum is like the last resort to contact someone especially it has no correlation to the person you contacted.

After you sent PM to Lafu and then you got the money from shasan, have you send PM to Lafu again for confirming you no longer interested with the money? because if you didn't confirm, people think you're still looking for.

No I didn't confirm. I never thought that people will think that I am still looking. I have my funds ready but still lack $5 so that's why I ask anyone who are willing to lend me but it seems it's not a good thing to do on my side as OP have said people will think it's phishy. It's a lesson learned for me by the way. It's a good thing that OP posted this thread for me to realize. To be honest, I am in need $5 more with the fund I have before yo buy materials for building a septic tank. Anyway, I have to start building the septic.

It’s best you just create a thread and make your request public and since the amount is small and you have a good rating here in Bitcointalk you’d be able to secure the loan - rather than sending PMs.

If I receive such a small loan request via PM the first thing that will come to my mind is “has this account been compromised?” That’s the thought I’ll have, so to avoid further trouble just create loan request thread instead of using PMs.

Reporting it will be a harsh move, why would I do that to get someone punished for a very little unsensual activity however it will surprise me if anyone ask for even a $1 and if I did not have any interaction with them before - at-least some memory of interacting with them before is okay for me. If I was suspicious I would do the same as Lafu did.

If there were a few more PM, it could be considered a scam. Five bucks is not such a sum that it can be noticed; asking several could get a good amount. Russians have a saying, "From the world on a thread, the naked will get clothes." As far as I understand, on the topic of loans, there was another open topic about 15 bucks. Do people who have been on the forum since 2018 need to know the rules about such PMs? If I were Jolie, I would leave a neutral tag about the unsolicited PM. There is another person who can tell how a random and innocent PM was turned into a negative tag, fortunately removed in time.

He reached out to me via PM last year for a loan, not a handout.  It wasn't explicitly stated, but at the time I got the impression he was only asking me and shasan.  Once I agreed ($45 worth of BTC at the time,) he removed his request from shasan's thread.  It took him a little longer than originally promised to pay back, but he paid.

Nope!  If the first message I get regarding something like this is through Telegram, I automatically think it's a scam.  I would much rather get a PM here on the forum to initiate a deal.  If further communication is needed, then we can move to a more convenient method.  Finalizing deals should also be done exclusively via PM.

Be careful of sending too many messages, if enough people report it, you may get banned.
Ask a close friend or campaign manager, in the end the amount is small and less than one week's payments.

Because, if we let users get away with this, there will be no limit to the amount of begging PMs we'll receive. You call it harsh, I call it necessary.

I just realized that I also got a PM from @nakamura12 yesterday. But the amount is different, he sent me a PM regarding $10, not $5.
I'm not sure, but there is a possibility that he has sent a PM to another user. Seeing the small amount requested, he should be able to get a loan from a friend or relative around him. However, I don't understand @nakamura12's current situation. If he is in financial trouble, hopefully, it will be resolved soon.

This is the reason why I don't use telegram or discord for because people will think that I am going to scam them when it's not what I want to do. Thanks a lot DireWolfM14 for providing this information. I learned my share of lesson to be honest and I am glad that OP did open this thread. As you have said, I am not sending PMs for a handout but to borrow and pay once I have money to pay back.

I have no intention of doing some shady things and all I want is to borrow (not a handout) and pay later on.

I understand your concern but my intention is to borrow and then pay. Now that I already realize what may happen or will happen with my actions so I am really thankful for OP to open this thread and stop before I face bad consequence.

That's exactly the angle I'm coming from. If I need $5 loan or whatever it's called, I will first reach out to my local guys in the forum and they'll gladly help off the forum. If I cannot get from my local board guys, I think I will ask a few of my close forum friends. I don't see myself asking a total stranger for a $5 loan. The amount is small but looks fishy.

I don't actually blame Lafu for making it public. Just imagine that a somewhat reputable user asks about 20 persons for a $5 loan and 15 persons reciprocates. So, Lafu just want to be sure he is also not asking several other users for $5.
It seems Nakamura12 perceived Lafu as a cool and rich dude who can easily split 5 bucks without thinking twice.

Thanks for highlight the issue. I have received the same request (twice, even after I confirmed to the users that I am not providing loan).

I am really sorry to ear people, "forum colleagues" that need help. Sending unsolicited message to complete strangers is not the best move (personal opinion).
Here there are thousands of people... we are not following the forum for providing loans to complete strangers people.

However I hope that this user will avoid in future this actions and has enough money for his personal expenses without bothering strangers online.

Just in case, just in case you forget one day that you ask one stranger for 5 dollars and another for 10, I will leave a neutral tag about your love for PM. You know, any scammer will always say that when he allegedly borrows from someone, he always intended to give it back. Don't believe me? Read the threads from shasan and his debtors.
