When you see people in top schools been taken during jobs offers in stead of those in lower schools is because some if not most of the schools do not only offer paper certificates alone but there learning process is curated with skill learning too, that is most of the student undergo high industrial learning and this is graded with paper works too that’s why top student from institutions like this usually get selected in job interviews.
Many people today down play the effort of school when choosing between school and skills not knowing that one better foundation is going through school first learning the basics and then going further with the same thing to acquire its skills. The only thing bad is when you have education (school or paper certificate) and do not go for further skills in same course, this will give one with skill an edge even if both have similar paper skills regardless of the grade on it
True, I agree. That's why the top institutions are expensive, even they have scholarship, but the number is very limited. They recruit the best teacher in their country, they can fund international certificates for their students, they have more facility and organization to develop their students etc. Unlike in mediocre institutions, as long as they have a place and teacher, it's done.

Both are equally important imo. A college degree is important because you can create a good network there. You’ll meet smart people there and learn lots of stuff from them which you can’t find on the internet.
I agree but not really about college but about basic education. You know, it is essential to learn how to read and write. For the many, they prove already that college is only optional. If we want networking, it can also be found on other places and not only in school and how sure you are that schools has lots of smart people? I even think most are being forced there. Schools has its own primary purpose and that's not to do networking but internet does. Your skills is the real money maker that’s true
The real money maker must be our selves or on the effort that we did because skills can also mean something that not all has but there are still easy jobs that don't require a skill that can allow us to make a money.

Anyone you chose among those people that have skills or graduated from higher institution is good for an employer to employ in the organization because they will be productive in the organization. To me, I will prefer skills employees because it will allow employees to flow to be productive in the organization and that is the area they are specialized on in practical.
I have seen many people after graduated from higher institution and they still went to learn some skills that will make them to function well in the area of their field and they are doing well in their various organizations, but doesn't mean employers are killing education system to prefer to those employees that have skills.

What I feel right now in my country is that the education system implemented by schools is not fully effective in preparing students for the world of work where currently a diploma alone is not enough if you do not have experience and skills, basically in school we only learn theory and skills are obtained from practice, but it should also be remembered that school provides us with the basic knowledge needed to succeed in various fields.
If I were in the employer position I would look for both because education and skills are very important if not there, skills are a factor in my consideration to hire him.

By my assumptions, there are strong indications already that we are moving past an era where employers put educational qualifications at the fore front of their requirement for employment into certain positions, some employers now hold personal qualities such as skills possessed by the individual ahead of the school they went to and the degree they graduated with. First, I would like to ask, could this be a reflection of a failing educational system? My second question is that if you happen to be the employer here, which will you consider more, school or skills?
I have also been trapped in something like this, when I was not yet in college, it was very difficult for me to get a job, the reason is simple because at that time I was only a high school graduate, so I decided to continue my education to college and I was accepted several times by companies, I don't know how it started but those who graduated from college have good speaking and problem solving skills, maybe this is the reason job seekers prioritize diplomas. btw, If I were the boss, I would prioritize skills/experience over graduates to become my employees.

i would say experience too skills can lack due to lack of experience but someone with many experience will know better than to make small mistakes

Studying in an institution is a system error, school is also a system error. Many people in this life will lose time to make money. In fact, human psychology is easy to forget and easy to get bored. And the result of boredom is that things that have been learned are forgotten. That's where those who go to school do not get skills in their jobs. That is the fault of the school system. The fact is that many people have businesses that are looking for workers who have skills rather than those who have degrees. However, the quality of education is important, but success in the world of work depends more on personal effort, skills, and experience. Universities may open doors, but you have to fight to get in, hone your skills, and build networks.

Op going straight to ur question as it implies, school or skill, there is a saying that says be the best in what you are, without missing well, that is why it is important for parents to watch closely the area of life that will suit there children, either school or skill, some persons are naturally skillful while some are naturally intelligent, but if God blesses you with the two better for the person, but what is important is been the best in what you are.

School or skills? Depending because at times both are needed but skills first under normal circumstances
Employers now looking at skills before school is simply because it is this skills (personal qualities) that will do the job and keep the company going not the school certification. THEY HAVE ALSO DISCOVERED THAT IT'S EASIER TO TEACH THE JOB THAN SKILL (PERSONAL QUALITIES) TO NEW EMPLOYEES.
It is not the fall of the educational system even as some countries most schools are below average.... Companies and businesses just awakened. If an employer, I would consider to keep the company going by going for what can keep it going "skills (personal qualities)".

They are both needed and required to speed up the process of where they will be specialize on, let's take for instance now you applied for a job as a security and then you have a skill as an electrical personel, so what do you think will be the situation the company will eventually pick the security person cause that skills is just like an added advantage, and at the same time one who applies for the job without any skill will still be picked but mind you the person with skills will always be their priority for employment first. So with school certificate or skills they are all necessary are guaranteed for employment it just depends on the companies preference.

Don't be deceied, educational qualification and certifications holds a higher place in recruitment into some positions.
There are roles where educational qualifications and certifications are a powerful combo. And your experience alone is not enough. If you are looking to build a career in the civil service then you know that they will pay based on expereince and educational qualifications.
In tech organizations, it may be a different case but at some point, you need those certifications. Microsoft, Google, Oracle, and other tech comapanies all have their certifications that, as a person of skill, you will strive to get it.

School or skills?
Looking at skills from practical (handwork) standpoint, it's very obvious how school knowledge is needed to do some skilled job. When this is the case, school certificate is required. On the other hand, some skilled job do not require school knowledge. So degree or whatever is not necessary but might still require certificate of completion of such skill and some times may not.
Some jobs might require both school certification and skill certification

With the way that the job market is going, it's very hard to read what an education will be worth in future. Even I.T. which has traditionally been a well paying path is now getting usurped by artificial intelligence which could leave you with an expensive degree but a lot of competition for few jobs. You might be better off going with a trade, which seem harder to automate. I don't think it is anything to do with a failing education system, just a very concentrated job market with many fewer minimum wage jobs because of technological advances. This leaves many candidates going for unskilled jobs and it being hard to distinguish yourself in that field. Whichever path you choose, pick one of them and don't drop out too early.

1. It is not very correct to put the question with the assumption of a binary answer, i.e. either this or the other, there is no third option . 2. To answer the question - it all depends on the job. I will take “two extremes”. If a person works, for example, as a loader - then of course work experience is much more important than, for example, education ... I would even say - physical strength will be the main criterion If the job requires KNOWLEDGE and not only physical performance - then profile education will be a strong argument in the choice. Let's say that it is possible to train oneself, but it will be more difficult, quite specific. no matter how they say it, but also basic education gives a broad, but basic knowledge, on the basis of which then a person can further develop and learn. For example, how will you work in the IT sphere, in the development of crypto solutions, if you have learned to program in some language, but do not know neither algorithmic nor mathematics (cryptography is math),... ? ?

Education is important and usually companies will also see prospective employees from their education. Skills are also equally important, so we should not compare the two, I mean we should think that both should go hand in hand. Education will equip us with theories, although sometimes in the field it can be very different, but at least we have provisions. But on the other hand we also have to talk about people too, because I see some people who have higher education they only target a piece of paper that indicates that they have met the requirements to graduate from university. they don't care about what skills and knowledge they get during their education. At least that's what I see now around me.

As an employer I will first of all consider what the work I want the employee for and what is all about then from there I will no the kind of individuals I will employ because if you rushed into employing people without consideration you might be hiring the worst people, for instance you have an opening for a secretary position, and you no that the suitable person for that are people who have that discipline in there place of study, so there is no field skills associated with it and if somebody who does not go to school are employ for that is obvious they wouldn't no from their right, so actually the nature of the work will tell the employer what to look at.

Skills set is very important but In order to make significant progress or be promoted in where you work you need to get a degree but just like you said they are no longer putting this at the forefront because overtime some people who have gone to school come out without having any experience, they just pay their way through every test and exam, while some are not actually the students fault but the universities or colleges fault, they didn't teach them the exact things they need to know. Going for practical knowledge is very important but you must back it up with a degree.

It depends on the country and their educational system. In countries where the educational system is excellent, students are counselled so that they can decide what field they want to get in as they move forward, and they are sent to relevant institutions so that they can pursue their careers in fields that they are interested in instead of leaving them confused as to what career they should choose and then them ending up with a different degree while having no interest in the field.
In countries where educational system fails in providing students the right course of actions and the showing them the right path as they move forward, you will often see cases where graduates in specific fields will be found acquiring other skills so that they can make a career out of them because they were never interested in the subjects they've studied in but they never got the right counselling and couldn't decide on their own.
So, you can't blame employers that want skills more than degrees because they know many people might hold degrees but they will barely know anything about the job or the field.

Both have their own use because school is all about learning, but the mistakes that have been put in the education system are just that they make some certain subjects mandatory for students to study, which is of no use to them in their daily activities, which is just their difference with skill because, of course, skills are also learnt, but you will just focus on learning it practically, which goes a different way than school which you will have to study different subjects just to be able to get the certificate, in most cases those with certificate gain it through exam malpractice. So if, as an employer, you are expected to choose, I will definitely go for the skilled person because even though he has no certificate of schooling, he has experience, and as it’s been said, experience is the best teacher, so experience is more important than having just a certificate.
