By my assumptions, there are strong indications already that we are moving past an era where employers put educational qualifications at the fore front of their requirement for employment into certain positions, some employers now hold personal qualities such as skills possessed by the individual ahead of the school they went to and the degree they graduated with. First, I would like to ask, could this be a reflection of a failing educational system? My second question is that if you happen to be the employer here, which will you consider more, school or skills?
Totally depends on the criteria when it comes into this aspect on which we do know that not all will really be having on the same standards on seeking out their employees on which whether they will be focusing more into those far more experienced or into those who do have that higher educational attainment. Here in our country on which they do have that focused into higher educational attainment or simply being a degree holder. Come to imagine that they are seeking for some gasoline pump boy and cashier but they are really that needing up that college graduate on which it do really sucks when we do speak about criteria. So it will really be that up to you on how you would be that handling yourself on a country on which they do have that kind of qualifications. It is really just that right if the payrate or salary is really that good, but we are seeing the different thing.

For me as an employer then i would be that still getting those who are really that have degree, but for me as a boss then i would definitely be that might having some exemptions on accepting someone who do have that skills and experience on which at the time that they will really be able to prove it out, then this might i do make out some considerations when it comes to this but most of the time degree holder is much more recommended or much more that preferred on which having that finished up their studies is much more having that better analysis or something but just like been said that there will be exemptions.

Both are essential for the good of the society and for personal growth. Schooling gives you the ability to think and understand the dynamics of life. Schooling helps to develop your mental strength towards life challenges how to deal with it for the betterment of the society.  Without Schooling the skills won't be perfect because you need to learn how to read and write to prepare a good quotation for a job as skilled personal.

Schooling Without skills in this part of the world is a waste, because no employment and poor conductive business environment. So one must embrace skills and school that will help to Balance one's life. Skills keeps you busy as you await good job, skills reduces crimes and other societal vices.

Having both is a blessing not having any is a disaster. Having only one is frustration.

There are cases in my country that some young guys left there college studies for courses to attain certain skills (after getting inspired by an online mentor who was also selling his courses). As time passes those skills were outdated and they were not able to learn skill set because they don't have the necessary training on how to learn new things.

Initial school/college education is mandatory and there is no substitute of that. Once you have you college level education completed then you can move on to learn skill set of your choice. Many of technologies today were not there when we used to study in school or college but it's our education that enabled us to learn emerging technologies that came up with passage of time.

I will give more importance to skills. But school is very important for us.

Behind the growth of a person, the environment around him plays a very big role. Just as children imitate what their mothers say, humans are constantly learning from their surroundings. And school teaches us very well how to adapt to our surroundings. Considering this aspect, school is very important for people.

But on the other hand, if a person has a very good social identity but does not have any skills, then he will be considered as an extra person to me. If you are good at something, you will definitely learn how to move in society. So for me, skills are more important than school.

That employees are emphasizing skills over certificate is not an indication that education is failing but what you need to know is that the world is changing fast and the traditional ways of doing things too is changing and that is also taking place in the industries where a skill is taking over theory, as far as education is concerned theory is an essential part of it because it is from theory that skill is gotten, what we should be concerned about is how we can combine skills and theory in our educational process which will put our graduates in a much more better position after school

I personally agree with @o48o. It depends on the job. For instance, someone with an economic degree doesn't have tangible proof of his work, except past job experience along with a letter of recommendation perhaps. On the other hand, a self-taught website developer will have developed a portfolio with previous or demonstration work he has successfully completed.

From my perspective, both matter, but I believe we're gradually going to an era where degrees aren't as important as they were a couple of years ago. Nowadays, acquiring a new skill is much more accessible than it used to be.

I disagree. Yes it’s true that your CV and resume will get your foot on the door but recruiters are more interested in applicants with transferable skills who are willing to learn and are team players. During interviews, the common questions asked are ‘Tell me about yourself’, ‘why do you think you’re a good fit for this role’, ‘Have you ever been in X situation and how did you resolve it’……all these are personality questions. If academic qualifications was the most important, don’t you think recruiters would be asking more technical or academic questions?

Educational qualifications are mandatory for certain jobs educational qualifications are initially required for a job especially in some professions but skills can ultimately become more important for job success and long term career. Because skills give a candidate the ability to perform a specific task correctly. Skills reveal the candidate's practical experience and applicable knowledge. Many organizations evaluate candidates skills in addition to their educational qualifications because technical skills communication skills problem solving skills etc are highly valued in the modern workplace.

In many countries of the world, especially in the third world, the conventional education system is outdated and ineffective. Due to the lack of relevance to the current times, students cannot acquire skills and as a result, despite having excellent degrees, they continue to suffer from the curse of unemployment. In these countries, companies give priority to hiring skilled educated people from the developed world for big positions. As a result, they have to pay a lot of benefits and good salaries. Therefore, countries that have this type of curriculum in their education system should immediately develop a practical and technical education system so that students can acquire skills along with degrees.

If we can establish good connections with the conventional education system and the industrial sector, these students will not be unemployed after completing their education. Moreover, more emphasis should be placed on skill-based training like in the developed world, such as coding, digital marketing, mechatronics and other technical skills.

By my assumptions, there are strong indications already that we are moving past an era where employers put educational qualifications at the fore front of their requirement for employment into certain positions, some employers now hold personal qualities such as skills possessed by the individual ahead of the school they went to and the degree they graduated with. First, I would like to ask, could this be a reflection of a failing educational system? My second question is that if you happen to be the employer here, which will you consider more, school or skills?
In an organised countries when the educational system is balanced and things are working smoothly in the manner it should be, I will go for the educated minds. Your education in a particular discipline is already equipping you for the labour market when you graduate. There are certain jobs that can only be acquired through education. You don't become a doctor by learning skills, you have to do that in the classroom and laboratories. You don't become lawyer by skills it has to be achieved through the educational system. If you go to school in a society where education is appreciated, you will understand that nothing beats education and having a good degree shouldn't be downplayed. I come from a country where education is a mockery but still I choose educational qualification. It is easier to work  and  train an educated person than someone who doesn't have a formal education.

Don't be deceived, employees still value educational qualifications over anything else. They won't hire a person with no educational qualification simply because he has a skill. There are jobs that don't require educational qualifications, but the jobs that have always required educational qualifications mostly still do.
Also, a lot of jobs look for people with skills and educational qualifications. One of them alone might not work, that's why I always say they're not mutually exclusive. The fact that you're educated doesn't mean you can't learn a skill related to your field. And, no, this is not because of the poor education system, its because there is more competition these days. There are tons of people with your degree, so what going to make you stand out to your employees is the amount of knowledge you've acquired and your experience.

Education is still very important in our life's,  education helps you to be a master in a particular area and it opens your mind for more possibilities, education helps you to understand the importance of laws and also the political system, it is true that a lot of employers now consider skill too but that those not mean they consider skill more than education there are some positions where it is just the educated can occupy and there are some that only those who are skilled can occupy it all depends on the company for example Banks will prefer the educated one's not the skilled but in a construction company they will prefer the skilled more than the educated but the key position are still occupied by the educated one's, the educated people are still more valuable in a company because when it comes to pushing the company forward or seeking for contract the educated one's are the one's always pursuing for it, going for meetings, the skilled workers are most functional in the field, for me it depends on the kind of company I'm running if I'm running a construction company I will prefer the skilled more than the educated i will employ the educated but they will be few but if is a company like Bank I will prefer the educated.

I know many people try to downplay education these days, but let us be honest, most jobs you are going to seek will require you to have a degree at least before you can apply. It is usually during the interview phase that your interviewer would test your knowledge and know if you have the skills required to take up that role, irrespective of how good your degree says you are, but you see, without the degree you are already disqualified.

That said, both school and skills are important, go to school, get a degree, learn a skill, do all you can to make yourself more relevant and indispensable, there is no use picking one over the other.
You are absolutely correct that is the real truth about it. Because due how things are going now most people are not serious about going to school again, they always have this feeling that after achieving a degree that they can not be able to used it and get a job, which is very wrong decisions. because just like as you mentioned it's essential to achieved both education and skills because nobody can tell where you would found yourself in the future.

What exactly is school going to teach them that’s directly applicable to their job? How to tell plates from glasses? Sure, basic skills are important, but let’s be honest—most of what they need to know is learned on the job, through practice and experience.

School is valuable for many things: critical thinking, broadening horizons, and understanding the world. But for some roles, especially those that are highly practical, hands-on experience is far more relevant. So, to those who say school and practice are equal, I’d ask: do you really think a dishwasher needs algebra or literature to excel at their job? Or is it more about efficiency, speed, and learning the specific systems of the restaurant?

Let’s not oversimplify things. Different paths require different kinds of knowledge, and that’s okay. School isn’t the be-all and end-all for every profession.

You need to distinguish that education and degrees are two different things. There are many people who do not have advanced degrees or certifications, but that does not mean they have not attended prestigious schools or have not been exposed to good education. But I can assure you that people who do not go to school or are not educated will not have any outstanding skills or will not be able to do great things.

Education is the only key to success. Don't just look at the unemployment rates of new graduates in third world countries and assume that education is failing or no longer important. If you graduate from college and are unemployed, while your classmates have high paying jobs. Doubt yourself instead of doubting that education is failing or is no longer necessary.
