It is a reasonable argument that the accumulated debt will continue to grow and if the gambler is not more careful about himself, it may explode and the impact will affect him financially, socially and family-wise and he will not have time to apologize for his situation. It depends on the type of debt though, and also depends on the gamblers motive for gambling, not every gambler owing someone or somebody and gambling is gambling to win money to repay such debt, some are actually gambling for a different motive entirely, like myself for example, I am owing, I have alot of debt to pay and sometimes, I do gamble, but it has never crossed my mind one day to gamble for the purpose of winning and settling my debt, cus I believe that money I am going to use to settle my debt possibly can't come from gambling except God decides to make it so.

While i agree with you that it's one of the worst activities you can do while broke, i also would like to point out that sums we play should always be relative to your budget anyway. So proportionally they shouldn't lose more then people with more money.
