Many current professional players have said so publicly. Those exciting moments during the poker series broadcasts influenced that similar phrase: "I want to do that, I can do it too."

I think that today such things don't have the media impact they did in those years, and that euphoria has even passed. That also relies on movies. Perhaps the only one that has managed to convey those emotions is a movie called Rounders (1998).

The character didn't influence me to do what he did because I know I need to think rationally, but I admired his confidence and the way he handled the opponent by playing mind games, which shows his intelligence and daring to take risks.

Yeah I believe there are gambler who got interested in gamble probably because of the way a single gambler got lucky and became rich in a movie. Some of these movies are utterly interesting to watch and tends to pass majorly the positive part of gamble leaving the negative part a bit blur because it's not been played by the protagonist. From majority of the movies I've watched that involves gambling, it's easy for anyone who has interest to immediately make up their minds to start gambling, perhaps they'll learn the hard way when they start losing. But scenarios like this after a gambler has gained confidence of being profitable via watching a movie, it's easier for such person to fall into addiction without them even realizing the damage they're causing themselves.

Most movies with gambling/casino scene don't just focus the story on gambling/casino unless the movie is all about casino/gambling like Ocean's Eleven. But most of these casino movies, shows you the dark side of a casinos, like at some point you got tons of money, your life's changes, lots drinks, s*x, dr*gs, party, you get addicted of money and casino, then at some point you hit all the consequences and lost all those money and you suffered. Of course, cons are always there and the movie shows it to viewers the very hard way like the man got addicted, prison, become thieves to get money, crimes, etc.

The question would you like to become one of these? At some point? Yes, when you got lots money, but it didn't show just like that because you will face those cons later on just like the movie shows so most of the viewers like me will probably think twice if its good or not.

Casino royale from one of James Bond movies have got to be one of the most remarkable ones. Aside from the action scenes, how they played poker was smart and thrilling to watch. Not to mention that Le Chiffre is still regarded as one of the most terrifying bond villain. Not that I want to play poker and finance terrorist organizations but it definitely made me want to be good at poker and be able to play as well as the characters did.

There’s really no harm in trying, as long as we’re responsible enough to understand the risks of gambling and stick to our limits… whatever "experiment" we’re planning to do. Because at the end of the day, it’s fun - but we’re not auditioning for a movie role. So, just keep it real and within budget!

If I am not wrong the original LA series ended a while ago and I completed it but in the recent days Harvey played a Cameo role in Suits LA which is a different series so don't confuse which one you're watching the original is one of the best.

And movies just show us what that can amaze us which is why we need to be careful with what we influence to do, just admiring the mindset is great but there will be consequences when we try to recreate the results in the same way, we don't have a reshoot if something goes wrong.

When I watch gambling scenes in movies especially the scenes where the mafia bosses are at the back office of the shop gambling with cigars in their mouths a d guns in their waist, I am like no, I don't want to be them.

The other regular gambling scenes are just hilarious to watch because you already know that in real life they don't even come close to how it really is. They try but not close all. The wins and closes , if you know what I mean.

I have never felt motivated to go and gamble after watching a gambling movie or a scene from a gambling movie.

I enjoy this questio. It has an weird honesty about it. Like, you are not just asking about movies. You are wondering whether anyone here has ever seen a poker scene, stopped, and wondered, "wait, is this... me?" I bet more people than you think. There is such impact in movies. Not even the fancy ones. Sometimes it's the silent ones. The long shots across a smokey table, the tension in one look. You see yourself in the calm guy, or the desperate one, or the bored one just passing time. Like, what if I sat down? What would I become?


But also, I think a lot of people here just like the vibe. Scenes of casinos and poker movies provide a sort of shorthand for risk, freedom, "make your own luck". It looks nice. But, in reality, gambling is more repetition than drama. Your losses are not accompanied by a theme music. How many people started for fun, got in deep, and never really knew if it was the movie that grabbed them, or just life searching for a new sort of risk? It might be difficult to recognize where the influence ends and your own decisions start. Which is very human, honestly.

Gambling has always been part of the culture. I remember when I was a kid and my parents gave me a Genesis video game console. It came with the Sonic 2 cartridge. In that game, there was a casino stage where you could play slots to win more rings and so on. There was another racing game I used to play where you could bet against other racers, even bet your car. Well, nowadays there's all this stigma around gambling and betting, but it has always been part of the culture. And like I said before, even kids used to be exposed to casinos and betting in the past.

This was the same feeling that watching some movies gave me about gambling, like gambling was characterised by violence and bloodshed. It was after I started gambling it dawn on me that those were just in the movies, although I don't play most of the gambles I see on movies, maybe this gave some kinds of relief. Now I just watch those movies strictly for entertainment,  not that I'm learning the type of gambling they do there.

Gambling is something that has been assigned or found in growing children right from their tender age, back then we never learnt how to Gamble but we've nurtured thoughts of it meanwhile countless times there have been movies portraying gambling and yes people tend to pick their favourites in the movie, for me I enjoy the fun i get watching some individuals play their gambling acts very well in the movies.

With the rate at which people are always winning when they're gambling in movies, I can't help but think movies are written about encouraging people to gamble. Unless it's a movie trying to teach the audience about the bad side of gambling, all other movies always have people wining when they're gambling and that's not the reality. The Pop culture has influence gambling to the extreme. Not only in movies but also in music through the lyrics and in music video. Influencer too making short skits about gambling success. I can believe the casinos are paying not only the influencer but movie directors or they own the casino to portray gambling as something so easy that everyone can participate and win and although this seems true but it isn't that way.

Nostalgic, I remember video games as well when we're younger that there were spins already and roulettes. So basically our minds are being set to that, and we thought that they're just normal part of the games but if we're going to analyze it deeply those were gambling games. We have unnoticed that we've been doing that in games until we've grown up.

Well, nowadays there's all this stigma around gambling and betting, but it has always been part of the culture. And like I said before, even kids used to be exposed to casinos and betting in the past.

You're right and aside from those you can bet against others and you can even bet your car. When playing these games, there are some parts that we can deal with our relatives or siblings personally if we can make it to the next stage or through the fight games. So true, it's been always been part of our lives but in some ways unknowingly.

I have only seen glimpses of reality in gambling films, and even those are just about match fixing or losing.

Gambling in movies has same problem as magic tricks in films. It takes away the skill, when you can literally just fake the scene and make the audience believe skill was involved.

Gamblers are portrayed as either geniuses that can almost read minds by looking faces, or problem gamblers. And there's no skill involved. Somehow having a better hand is being portrayed as being skilled. Or bluffing with all in one hand while the river saves the protagonist.

It's mostly facepalm material. Sometimes they can be based on real world events and card counting, but i don't see that as realistic view on general gambling.

Some might have been influenced by movies in the old days when social media had not been as popular as it is today. Currently, we can see that gambling ads are more popular and convincing to the younger generation than the way movies can convince anyone to gamble, which is why some countries have gone as far as banning gambling ads and promoting social media and not movies related to gambling.

casinos may even be more attractive to us when we were kids because it basically showed everything we can't have at that age there were partying there were booze and of course there were a lot of money involved i feel like the last one is still very attractive to adults not

Though, there is something which bothers me a bit when comes to influencers and the way they advertise or promote gambling. They do it perform any kind of filter when they tell to their viewers to try out some casinos or bookies, and in general, there are millions of children and teens which follow the life of influencers, which could lead children to start gambling at a very young age, when they are supposed to focus on their studies and getting good grades.
Influencers do not gamble themselves with the money they get thanks to those ads, because they know how gambling works, but unfortunately children and teens do not...

No, I playing gambling because of I want to feel the experience and not because of the movies. Besides that, I am not too often watch the movies and only selective watching the movie.

And when I watch a movie related to poker, I am not saying that I want to be that guy. I realize that is only in a movie and difficult to happen in reality.

If people want to be that guy, that will not be a problem but they must realize that is not easy to be that guy. He may not realize about that because he doesn't see the fact what someone must do to become a pro gambler.

So that will be your decision if you want to be the guy you watch on the movie. But you should know the consequences doing that.
