I can think of the James Bond movie, which like any other Hollywood movie, puts the hero as the all-good-nothing-bad type hero and obviously he wins something big. This helped promote the casinos a lot from what I have heard.

The objective is just that, trying to push the common people to gamble more, specially those who are improving from middle to higher class. But I have the opposite view on this, if you are reaching upwards in class, you should retain money and be as frugal as possible.

I never believe in this pop culture, I feel its similar to forcing people towards capitalism. While the gambling tourist areas are nice looking places to visit, one should limit their habits to limit the money lost.

But are there gamblers who really been influence by gambling movies to go and try gambling for themselves here? Or watching a movies that relates to poker and says I want to be that guy?

I've watched the "Las Vegas" TV series 20 years ago(which wasn't totally about gambling). I've also watched several movies about casinos and gambling. I don't think that gambling was portrayed in a very negative way by TV and cinema. It was portrayed in a more neutral way. Maybe some people were inspired to become gamblers by watching a movie about poker players or card counting. I remember that movie called "Maverick" with Mel Gibson, it was about poker tournaments in the Wild West. It was a pretty fun movie, but I don't think that this particular movie made me want to play poker.

The funny thing is, gambling depicted in movies are dramatically overreacted. Sometimes, it is borderline unrealistic due to multiple instances showing that the main character won the jackpot. Sure, everything is catered towards entertainment and for movie purposes but it is definitely far from reality.

The problem with gambling and on how it is viewed on movie screens are the unrealistic happening of events. Normally, the plot revolves around the main character winning a jackpot or huge chunks of money by playing poker (e.g. they draw a royal flush while betting all-in, etc.). This kind of unrealistic perspective influences other people and they tend to copy such strategy from this.

Now we ask the question, are there any gamblers that are influenced by the depiction of gambling in movies? Probably it influences newbies or beginners who are curious to try gambling. But to long-time gamblers who know the realistic experiences of gambling, then probably they would NOT be influenced by it.

Gambling in movies are not reality, I remember watching God of gamblers when I was a kid, this makes me feel like having some type of gambling gift where I can see through cards on the table or be able to flip a card when other challengers are holding the cards.

In reality all these are not real, but I heard stories about how some gifted Chinese men made fortune in Macau, which was even why the movies existed in the first place.

I am not influenced by these movies to be a gambler but I was influenced to have real gambling gift, I mean the spiritual side only, because I believe that with such gift you can actually be a step ahead of gambling instead of hoping and waiting for luck to happen itself..

We are amaze with their ability changing the card or gamblers who are lucky most of the time. That make some people want to be like that guy so they start playing gambling. They don't realize that that will not happen in reality because that is just happen in the movie. If they want to be a pro gamblers, they must learn and have skills.

I am not influenced because of the movie I watch. I am playing gambling because curiosity and make me start gambling. But I don't want to chase to be that guy in the movie because that will difficult. Only a few people who can have better skill than others. So instead wasting my money in gambling, I prefer to limit it but I can enjoy playing gambling.

A lot of people dont understand that movie is based on a written plot and what happens in a movie not always happens in real life. Some people are so impressionable, that they believe monsters really exist, there is a parallel universe with action heroes, and believe that if a character cheat in a casino in movie everything ends good for him, that they try to repeat that. Gambling in pop culture makes us believe that no matter how you gamble, you will always end positively. I cant recall a gambling movie that ends with main character becomes addicted or broke.

And it is indeed not a children's spectacle because such gambling movies are specifically for adults.
But adults who believe in movies that feature big wins continuously will also be affected that they can win more at gambling and only lose less with the strategies they get from movies.

The only adults that can fall for such movies/story lines are non gamblers that have not had any experience with gambling before and when they see the movie, they think that they can manifest what was directed in the movie.

The answer is no, that's because you have had so much experience in gambling, even if you don't gamble again, you have gain so much knowledge on this board that some gamblers don't even have, but some non gamblers will be deceived.

In the movies they always make it about blackjack and sometimes poker (although poker is mostly shown in western movies and games, for some reason - think Red Dead Redemption 2). There is also a bit of horse race betting but they never go into detail, they just show the betting part and the ending of the race, where the winning horse is declared.

At this point it's just as cliche as the explaining a wormhole with a pencil through a folded sheet of paper in sci-fi movies.

yes but then in the end all these films give a very important lesson that in my opinion should be followed to the letter, in the end the protagonist always falls into a hole from which he can no longer get out and ends up being swallowed up by his own vices, so it is true that it is a film but what is written in my opinion is true and the moral is very important

Gambling is definitely often glamourised in many movies - the main character hitting the big jackpot and leaving a champion.

Thinking of movies related to gambling, some of the ones that i like are Casino, Molly's Game, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Each shows maybe the darker side of gambling.

I don't, movies, most of them are unreal, and they add something to make it more cinematic, so I don't believe in everything I see in movies, I guess some people are influenced by anything that their favorite actors are doing, this is risky because you will be deceive by what you see on movies that the actors and directors can be manipulated.
If we are going to learn or be influenced to gamble, it should be in a way that will teach and enlighten us what gambling really is and the reality of gambling, which a movie or an actor cannot bring.

When it comes to gamble, I don't get influenced. Talkmore of movies that I know was acted to entertain people. I only take the message and forget about the actions because they ain't something to emulate. If you talk about been triggered by other gamblers win, I can understand that, because some people started gambling after they saw someone win a fortune from gambling.

Yes bro, this is very deep you've pointed out. But Many people are inspired by watching movies, like my cousin who was starting to learn blackjack after watching 21. Rounders, Molly’s Game, Casino these are not just games, they show a lifestyle to their audience. Many people think to made their lifestyle like them. Cause in theaters they show it like a cool guy

But not all movies are so strong. Some movies just show gambling, no meaning it seems boring for me.

But there is a pop culture effect. Many people study after watching a good poker movie, go to tournaments, try it in real life. It creates a cool feeling, like I can do it too!

Unless it is labeled a true-to-life story, most of the movies are fiction, created by the imagination of a writer.  Even a true-to-life story has some exageration on it, so I really don't understand why some people believe fictional movies like it really happens in real life.

It was all a manipulation, it is a movie anyway, and they follow a script created by the writer and indeed it is misguiding people making them think that if someone does this and that he will easily win in gambling.  Worst some people even do the bad thing stuff like crimes shown in the movie just to make them feel cool.

If we are going to learn or be influenced to gamble, it should be in a way that will teach and enlighten us what gambling really is and the reality of gambling, which a movie or an actor cannot bring.

I highly agree that we should take lessons from gambling movies that enable to help us positively while engaging in gambling.  And sometimes even if the movie is fictional they have some message or good learning wants to convey to the audience.

The director sets it up very well and there will be a Happy Ending or a Sad Ending,
but in the real world gambling is really set by the player himself and it depends on how lucky we are.

The power of influence is real, and while some people may not have been influenced by movies, they have been directly influenced by seeing the lives of some persons they know are gamblers. People can make a lot of assumptions, and if they see someone who is known to be a gambler doing well in life, they can quickly assume that the person is doing well because they are gambling and then choose to want to be that person without actually knowing. Influence is real that is why you must always check where influence is coming from before you allow yourself to be influenced.

I believe there are users that have been influenced by the movies related to gambling. However, we can't have the statistics for these because quite hard to get those numbers. But I have a good feeling that there are indeed gamblers who started gambling owed to the movies that they have watched. Just look at those multi-million dollar lottery movies or the Ocean's movies. The lucrative lifestyle in gambling is quite an interest of most players.

Speaking about external influences then it could be happening on many forms on which it wont be just that limited alone on seeing those movies but also into the things that you might be able to see on other people and thats why you do end up on having that kind of possibility that you might that get influenced. Nowadays on which we do know that technology do gives out that easy accessibility when it comes to things being shared on which it will definitely be reaching out tons of people and for those who arent that good when it comes to self control then they are the ones who do easily get influenced with these stuffs on which it do really ends up for them to that possibility that doing up on the same thing. Knowing gambling then it will be that totally highly addictive and since its just that easy to be done as long you do have the money into your pocket then you're good to go and free anytime on doing up such thing. When you do have that money just like on what i have said that once you do have the funds then it will be just that too easy for you to play. On daily living then we do have tons of influences that we can be able to see or would be able to encounter and it will be that up to you whether you do control up yourself when it comes to the time that you do able to see up such situations. Now that different industries are that booming up on which this includes gambling then expect that there would be those people who do keep on feeding up these businesses and thats why it is making or racking up money and this is where they do able to sustain for long time. It is that part of the industry and there are those people who do want to spend up their time on doing gambling.

Pretty sure this is LOL! In face, gambling influence are everywhere. Some people may not going to be influenced by these ads we're seeing everywhere nowadays, but a single movie could motivate them in trying to go to a casino.
There was this movie (I totally forgot the title) where a group of young people who are exceptionally good at Math. They were venturing out to study how they win against the casino using their Math skills. I'm not sure if it really works as it's almost impossible to perfectly decipher everything in general in a casino table, but I think that movie is enough to fuel someone to go and try it, especially for a nerdy type of person.

I remember films about card counting. They impressed me enough to google information about it. As the result i began to play poker and read books how to play right. I played poker before, but it was just for fun. After these films i tried to get profit from the game.
As the result, i stopped the game after few months. I won a bit, but it was too small sum to time i spent.

I wasn't really interested in gambling movies, but then I changed my habits. That all changed after I watched a show where a professional poker player analyzes and comments on poker movies... It's funny that listening to a guy who makes a living doing it comment on poker movies is much more interesting than watching the movie itself. Sometimes it's interesting to watch an online broadcast of a poker game, but I want to say that these are completely different entities. It's one thing when you play poker yourself. Another thing is when you watch a tournament. Third - when you watch a movie about this tournament. And fourth - when a pro analyzes scenes from a movie about poker.
