Academic degrees will now only be seen as a formality to make up gaps and qualifications in employment as I don't see how they can really be useful.
But it's definitely a point because even though it's a formality for employment, it's certainly the most sought after especially for countries that are developing or even lagging behind, it could be that developed countries are also like that although I don't really know for sure.

Nowadays an academic degree is like a piece of paper that actually means something but on the other hand it can also be useless. When we have this we can have more qualifications for jobs although sometimes this is also influenced by nepotism (for jobs) but in the end this can support to get better things than those who do not have academic degrees. So I agree that it is valuable, but on the other hand, the view that academic degrees are not very useful can also be a choice of thought that cannot be blamed because in fact it is partly true.

Now lemme draw your attention to something very important about having degree and to those who thought having a degree is useless, do you know that before someone can own such a degree they have undergo series of studies and research right?

Okay that's understandable and I know where this is going but as I said in the previous post because in the end this academic degree even though we do a series of tests or whatever it is to get it but in the end the essence of education is now sometimes different for some people because nowadays it's 50/50 maybe even more than that where for now some consider education and academic degrees as just a requirement to get a decent job and this cannot be denied because it is true.

I sometimes always ask some gen Z now when they go to school in the end the answer remains the same where this is only to support so that their work is expected to be better and indirectly this proves that if there is no certificate requirement or even an advantage for employment I think for now education degrees or even school to college are only for a small percentage of people. We cannot be denial about this because it is indeed for today's times it has become a thing that is really commonplace not only in small countries but even large countries like that.

Having a degree is very important because it shows that one has gone through a perpetual learning under a specific discipline and this is what could be used to identify the specialization of each profession, additionally, we also needed to improve on the aspect of learning skills to help back up our experience both theoretical and practical aspects in other to be able to deliver to the society.

That's if they studied properly at university, or if they attended a good university, as many students fail when entering the workforce.

Yes, you're right, we must have all the factors to achieve success; without them, we'll struggle. A bachelor's degree isn't a benchmark or even a guarantee of success; it's simply one of the supporting factors in achieving our goals.

I don't think we can choose which ones we like, because doing so would be holding ourselves back. For example, is a degree important? Of course, it is, but how do we use it? Success is a combination of opportunity and ability. Sometimes opportunities come, but we're not strong enough to seize them, and ultimately, we miss them. And I think such degrees are worthless, at the end of the day they are completely worthless, where they cannot apply the knowledge they have learned in real life, but acquiring them means wasting all your time and money. Just having a degree on paper does not make anyone successful, to be successful you need real skills, otherwise they will be limited to just a paper degree, it will not be of any use in your life. So to achieve your own success, only if you can utilize that opportunity, then you will be successful, and you have to prepare yourself for this, not only having a degree is not enough, you have to have real skills, strategies, creativity, these are the main ingredients of success in today's time.

If you ever want to get a job just because you finished college, go get a license that’s related to healthcare. Otherwise get ready to work way way harder just to land on a job.

I think the problem is we have people who are not willing to sacrifice to learn what they went to college to study. As an undergraduate I believe getting an attachment in a sector related to what ever we are studying as a volunteer can help prepare us for a better future either while in school or immediately after graduation.

I am wondering what a computer scientist will be needing a healthcare licence for when they can create virtual services and get paid but unfortunately most computer graduates lack computer skills they took their career pursuit for granted and now put the blame on the labour market.

Depends on where you live.

If the jobs vacancy require degree, pretty sure university degree is important.

If you live in a country who choose experience over degree and other theory thing, university degree isn't important anymore.

Many people that I met usually say this to me "the most important thing of school is you can make friends and relationship, they will help you in the future". So, I think university is important for the social benefit than the thing you learn since you can learn in work.

The first line makes a lot of sense, it all depends on the country where you live...if you reside in a third world country like Nigeria it's important that you rely on skills more than the degree you have because going to school and graduating doesn't guarantee that you are going to get a job in that field of study... This is a mistake that many students are making today. Many students, although they have graduated and received their degrees, ironically, they are seriously lacking in knowledge compared to the value of the degrees they receive, let alone skills.

It can be said that it is partly the fault of the education system and partly the fault of the students themselves, because they are lazy and do not try. But they dare not admit and face the fact that if they tried harder and studied harder, they could get a job after graduation. Instead, they blame degrees when they can't find a job.

This also explains why some people are employed and successful while others remain unemployed even though they all graduated from the same school and majored in the same subject.

Here I want to say I am not against university degree because it has his own authenticity in few countries it's important for having job or good post but still without skills you have not good way or earning because without skills life never go on track.

In many countries if you have degree but not know about any skills they will never give you any job, or you will have no better way or earning it's always important technical institutes or school without having skills are just like bread without curry.

I personally know many youngsters those are having good education, but sadly they fail to achieve their goals because they were not well aware about ground realities or market sentiments which give them setback, and they lost many years for having experience in this.

I'm not saying that it isn't worth it, but it isn't a necessity for us to be successful in the future. Some might look at a university as "something important", but not for me anymore despite the fact that I graduated from college as well.

I've seen graduates that are now having a hard time finding a job for various reasons. There are jobs that can't be taken by AI, and most of them are those that isn't require technology like nurses like what the above post said and something about healthcare. What I would say though is that, things aren't the same back then anymore. Right now, you can still be successful despite not having a degree and vice-versa. What I believe is that, as long as you have a skill, and you can make money by using that "skill", you can be successful in life even though you don't have a degree. We've seen people becoming successful even though they don't have a degree so it's still worth anything at least for me, but not that important anymore.

My opinion is , if you have no big resources, you should go towards small business but no towards big job .Job could be end at any time but business will never end and your income will increase.

Studying at university is like a dream for a student and it is not possible to guarantee that a young person will get a job just by studying at university. There are some students who study at university only to understand life and get a higher degree. In reality, I have seen many such students who have become very enterprising after doing very good results in university and have established themselves by starting their own businesses. They did not stand in line for jobs after obtaining certificates, but they became entrepreneurs according to their own thoughts and plans and they established businesses and provided jobs to hundreds of people. Again, I have seen many talented students who could not establish themselves in life by studying at university and getting a job. That is, there is no such rule that just by studying at university, they have to get a job with a certificate.

There is no denying that there are millions of people with college degrees who are unemployed, but did you know that the number of people without college degrees who are unemployed is many times larger?

They aren't bachelors' degrees though... they are MBAs and PhDs.

You're not going to become a CEO with just a bachelors' degree.

Your options are to "complete" higher education as in get all the diplomas they have to offer, and then you can be a scientist/politician/executive, or you drop out and go into entrepreneurship, because it's not worth it to spend $50k over 4 years to get a bachelors'.

Degree certificate is good to get anywhere, but in some advanced countries, you will use it to get job once you are done from school so that you can impact the knowledge you have to the community ; but in some countries, it is not working that way especially in some countries where bribery and corruption is everywhere.

Agree. I also believe that a university degree is still necessary and very relevant, even without a bachelor's degree. You can be successful as long as you're willing to work hard to achieve it. However, this doesn't mean you shouldn't pursue a college degree.

In my opinion, college isn't for everyone, but that shouldn't stop you from learning what you're good at. Perfect yourself, strive to be the best. A college degree doesn't guarantee a job, but college can put you in a better position than someone who hasn't attended school. After all, not everyone can be Bill Gates, Jordan, or other wealthy individuals without a college degree. The age hasn't grown pass a good school degree, getting education is now easier than back in the days, that makes plenty others eligible with the same certificate in the labor market available for the same labor. No matter how irrelevant it might be to get a job with your degree, don't be among those who don't see the need of going for the degree, opportunities come sometimes at the least moment we expect.
