The both of you are basically right as this is something I've always preached myself, some people see the money they spend on gambling as an investment which is truly false, because if we are to be honest with ourself, gambling has never been and will never be an investment, but rather will remain one of the recreational forms of entertainment that it has always been right from time.

If you can contain your gambling activities and your expenditures, you will surely see the good sides of gambling. Like removing your stress after a day's work. That is, if you will use your extra funds and stop once it is busted. And play games that are not too taxing for you. You have a point, most people haven't really experienced the good side of gambling because they chose to be greedy and also get addicted to it. after winning a lot of people don't even their profits they keep on chasing profits until they end up losing their wins completely. Exactly if you approach gambling recklessly is going to messed with you big time . For instance two gamblers were gifted $1k to gamble . So one of the gambler is a reckless gambler , so instead of breaking the $1k into smaller unit like $10 or $100 he decided to go with $500 , and yes he  can be lucky but same time he can be unlucky too . When you are not making profits since that is the sole reason why people are gambling, you need to understand that you are not winning.
The negativity you are trying to explain is due to not winning at all. Imagine you went to school so that you can get education and get a good job after school. Let's assume you were able to finish school and came out looking for a job that could feed you and take care of your bills but you never find one that can reciprocate all your struggles and the money you had spent in school. This can be an unfortunate story and that had led to people talking bad about gambling.
