It's quite natural to be surprised with this signing. Because technically there isn't much to expect from Thiago Silva at this age even though he is a defender. But then I remembered something.

Porto has a really young squad. The average age is 25.4. There are only 2 players over 30 years old now. Maybe they wanted to have another very experienced player like him. To be like a mentor or so.

What surprised me most is that Thiago Silva still has plans to play in the 2026 World Cup

This signing was very curious, especially coming from the team itself. Thiago is an excellent player, but his age is really getting too advanced. Another point is that much of the strategy for Fluminense's Club World Cup campaign last year went through him. So, as a strategist and captain, he's phenomenal.

Porto had relatively easy win against Vitoria Guimaraes. Though, games wasn't quality because pitch condition after rain was very poor.
Yesterday Porto didn't had any problems with Alverca, while Benfica didn't played good game and won only 1:0 against Famalicao.
Nothing didn't changed after this round, Porto keep 5 points lead.

Sporting maintains a 5-point difference by winning. If Porto makes a mistake, we might see some excitement again, but so far they've been nearly flawless. Vitoria Guimaraes is an average team, but Sporting scored 4 goals against them away. They've scored 10 goals in their last 2 matches, the players are motivated and eager. I'm fully confident they'll beat Rio Ave in a similar fashion in the final match of the year. But Porto won't drop points against AVS either, so we'll close the year with a 5-point difference.

They just play impressively in every kind of a match. Against big or small teams, it doesn't matter much. They continue not to lose points easily.

The only one was against Benfica. No other team deserve the title more than them now.

I’m losing money, and their performances are damaging my statistics for Portuguese Primeira Liga matches, which had been solid so far: 9 total bets, 6 won and 3 lost, for a win rate of about 66.6%. Going forward, I’ll probably focus entirely on Benfica to keep pulling winning bets and stabilize my bankroll  .

Five points difference is not a big deal in any level but as FC Porto is playing, it's going to be good fight at the top in the second half of this season because they are having good attack and strong defense, this will be giving them good chance of staying at the top.

Sporting CP is also got good attack, and they are doing good job, but their consistency is going to be important for them in upcoming second half of this season because Porto is amazing and Benfica is also just 3 points behind this will always challenge at the top, rest of teams are going badly down behind them.

But I came here to comment on Thiago Silva. It was the first thing that came to mind after seeing the goals conceded stats
They already have a very good defense, and now they've brought in Thiago Silva. It's not possible that they'll replace any defenders
There may be a remote possibility that the Brazilian player will play in a slightly different position

Unfortunately, despite being a good record, it only shows how uncompetitive the Portuguese championship is.

Even the club currently in fourth place, Gil Vicente, which normally fights to avoid relegation (and is having a good season so far), has conceded fewer goals than Arsenal in the Premier League.

And the best part is that the team doesn't let the scoreline go up by many goals; it's always been by just one goal, while they've opened up a two-goal lead or more. They are really strong favorites for the title, but I think we should wait a little longer for the standings to change; it's not certain yet.

Reconsider betting on Benfica, I've already mentioned this in the reply above. They've drawn too many matches, which has been a problem this season. They're often favored, draws will only result in a loss on your bets.
