Both of them are good, but before you go to a learn a skill, you should have primary education to enable read and write, if not you are a stack illetrate and your skill wouldn't give you much money as expected compared to someone who is certified in both the skill and education.

Down here in my country, education is put first before anything. This is why you will see a graduate with zero skill knowledge being in charge of someone who is carrying out the job that he is skilled at.

When you talk about this, you can have skills that are still useful even if you don't have a formal education, as long as you use them correctly. However, I'm not saying that education
is no longer important. Of course, education is still valuable. If we can, we should really study so that we can combine the skills we discover within ourselves with what we learn when we graduate.

Ultimately, the bottom line of education is that we will eventually look for a job to make use of what we've studied. In short, we'll still be looking for an employer.
The same goes for skills—we'll also be looking for employers who will hire us.

You should always understand that education is necessary, but not as OP says, formal, but really real, with training and some practice. I would prioritize educational certificate more than skills especially in my country where educational attainment matters the most. If you apply for any job, you will have an edge if you are a college graduate because you’ll get those white collar jobs while those undergraduate could only settle on low compensated jobs.

Formal education is still one of the best options to enhance income & job opportunities. college graduates usually earn significantly more throughout their working lifetime & have lower unemployment rates. However there is a twist to this because employers are moving forward, they increasingly take more interest in skills & practical capability, particularly in the rapidly changing world where degrees rapidly become obsolete. The best way to move forward nowadays is to focus on both as education is the base & it shows reliability and skills teach you practical approach along with the theory. imo one should not think of a single option rather try being good at both to still remain alpha

Depending on the country where you are from. There are countries that give priority to the educational certificate that their people has.

There is a sad thing about the discrimination that people experiences from the companies that prefer workers that have finished college studies than a skill.

But I think that the world is shifting into companies looking for more skilled people than of diploma and college degrees. Like google and tesla, I think they're looking for skilled people that fits their work environment.

I love them both and besides there is nothing holding against anyone who wants to have them both, as the matter of fact I currently have both certificate and a lot of skills, I wasn't told to choose only one but instead I feel there is need for one not to leave by only one thing considering the regular changes on the economy so actually if one is not ready to see how things are going they might be left behind. Proof of education is just easiest way to somewhat confirm your skills when someone is trying to decide whom they hire. Obviously you could fake those, but at some point someone would notice that you don't have required skills for the job.

Obviously you can get a job without formal education, but it takes time to prove you are good at something. And if you are really good, you could be head hunted for that position anyway.

When we started getting Ukrainan refugees, some of them didn't have necessary qualification papers for their skills, so they just entered vocational schools or to applied sciences to get formal papers. But it was just about proving their skills. They didn't have to stay years in those schools.

I know having a certificate does not guarantee a good job, but I think it is important for one to have both. The reason I say so is that sometimes life is unpredictable. Despite there being no good jobs at this time, people are getting new and good jobs every day. In life, opportunities can come your way when you least expect them. It is possible to meet someone who can offer you a very good job, and all you need to get this job is just a certificate.

Just imagine if the certificate is not there; you have just missed a lifetime opportunity that you may not find again in life. Just have both the certificate and the skills, and be prepared for life because anything can happen. People come across opportunities by meeting those who can provide what they think is so difficult to obtain in life.

formal education is good but in most cases the one to chose between the both is not in your will power but base on circumstances. for example you might grow up in a poor family where there is no opportunity to enroll into a formal education simply because of no money to afford it, but you may have the opportunity to learn skill that will help you to succeed in the future. all i can say is that in a place where you have the opportunity to do both, you can do. but in a situation when you are given option to chose, then you can go for the skill. in as much as you saw a situation where a skilled person could not get a good job because of not being able to give a good quotation, does not mean that it is always like that for all skilled persons. that is just a mistake by that guy maybe he was not smart enough if not majority of wealthy people i know today are skilled persons and not educated people. in the society today you need skill to survive and not certificate. certificate is just the product of what you learnt, why the skill is what you can offer. so go for the skill.

I think that it is very much dependent on a person and what kind of life they want to lead. Education gives one order and access in the business world but skill provides one with individuality and practicality. When you use both, you are on a better footing since you can fit into any spot. I will retain my skill since even in case failure kicks in with the certificates I can still hold on to life based on what I am competent in doing.

Mark zukerberg left education for skill, bull gates left school for skill, Wizkid arguably the biggest afrobeat musician in the world left education for skill!. This guys and other who left education for skill have one thing in common and that is they were sure of themselves and what they wanted to do was obvious to them.
You can’t leave education for skill when you haven’t learnt the skills or aren’t sure about which skill you can do.
If you are schooling and your skill haven’t yet given you that confidence you should not drop out from school, you can multi task or even complete your education then keep transforming your skill.

Some professionals will require a certificate for you to practice.  To be a lawyer, doctor, or others who don't just need skill but certification from a recognised higher institution. So if your aim is to pursue a career that requires a certificate, you would have to go to school.

But if you want to pursue a career that requires just skills to practice, you don't need to study for any certificate. An online class or apprenticeship could teach a skill that can make someone successful. The most important part of education is the ability to read, understand, and write.

To an extend educational certificate is overrated, there are so many university graduates that I know over the years without earning from those certificates infact what put food in their table is completely not related to what they studied in school, in my country educational certificate Jobs are rarely to come by, so many graduates every year without creating job opportunities, having an educational certificate is good and also having a skill all together is the best because it will keep you in a position of not being unemployed either self employed or working for someone.

There's a relative of mine who got a very competitive position in his work place and the reason he got that position was because he had a very good skill in data analysis and he also had the required degree, the other people that applied for the same position had the degree but didn't have that extra skill that was needed. Second example was about my dad and his colleagueas at the office, one of his colleague has been working with the company for many years and he had so enough experiences with the company but each time a promotion comes, the people that only got prompted were staffs that had the required school certification, meanwhile people that got promoted are always new staffs while the guy has been working with the company for many years. It can be very disappointing to find yourself in such a situation that's why it's good to have both if you can.

Between the two, I will always go with having a skill rather than having an educational certificate or diploma.

I've seen businessmen that became successful despite not finishing their schooling. Zuckerberg, and Jack Ma are the 2 that comes to my mind instantly. They have the skill, but didn't have the certificate. Ending? They became successful people. While I believe that having both would be better, if I need to choose one over the other, it will be having a skill. One skill is what you need in order to change your life.

I think the comparison of education and skills are not possible because they both have no equillence. Learning skills is good in fact this is the thing by using you can't face poverty or any hurdles. But being educated and then learning skills is something else. If you have education then there is multiple choices with which skill you want to go work but without education there are skills but in a limited number. If you are not educated then the skills that remains are bot as good as an educated person can learm for himself his family and a safe future. i think learning skills either education is more important so before motivate people towards skills motivate them to have education because education also teach you how you get benefits from being skilled specifically.
