First leg of quarter finals is over and we can see that Aston Villa and Freiburg gained most advantages in their first matches.
Nothing is yet decided but all odds are saying Aston Villa already secured place in semifinals.

I really, really wanted to go Betis here but yeah, I gave in to QF sensibilities, knowing that almos all away teams will be happy with a draw to take home and finish the job.

What Betis did yesterday was shameful, nothing strange that they got booed by their own fans. They had 2:0, scored 3rd goal which was cancelled by VAR and then they conceded 4 goals from Braga. I don't know, maybe after 2:0 Betis players started to think that their job is already done.
Celta also disappointed me. Not that I expected their comeback, but at least I wanted that they wouldn't lose big at home. Now it looks a bit weird when last Spanish teams in Europe is Atletico and Rayo Vallecano.

Braga is playing against Freiburg, after they eliminated Celta and Betis.
Aston Villa is playing against Nottingham Forrest after eliminating Porto and Bologna.
First leg of semifinal matches is played on 30 April, and one English club have guarantees spot in the final match.

The unfortunate part is am playing for bragging rights , instead of a top 3/4 finish,  I guess the damage was done by you guys in the first half of the season and right now you are in cruise control with not so much happening in position changes .

I don't like how this Semi bracket unfolded...English teams should have met in the finals not the Semis, and unfortunately on paper Villa will be the favorite but we can write off Forest

Did you see the UEFA scam? I should have gotten default picks, no?
It would have given me 2 more points - which would be quite meaningful.

Not sure when I get them and when I don't, I missed 1 round (I think it was early Championship) and I got them.

15 points is a lot, sure, but in theory most we'll be getting is 5-7 so I don't expect any major swings here anymore.

I see Braga as one of the Cinderella in this tournament but i dont know how much further they can go right now. Freiburg i a team which i "hate" or better to say i have blacklisted from a long time, they always are nearby the european spots in the Bundesliga but their performance is super irregular. For me the champion is in the other leg, it can be Aston Villa(the favorite) or maybe the Forest with all his HUGE history(2 UCL) in european competitions reborn.

It's nice to watch the finale without worrying about the outcome. As for the chances, Aston Villa looks too strong for this tournament and it looks like the scenario I described in the EPL thread is coming true: Aston Villa will win the Europa League, take 5th place in the EPL and thus the EPL will receive 6 tickets to the Champions League. It remains to be hoped that next season teams from England will be beaten in the same way as this one

Ah yes, I just looked, I somehow thought it was much closer for some reason. Ulven and I were tied earlier on I believe at 1st... how difficult it was to maintain that position, I'm more of an Arsenal bottler I guess, giving up 1st in Bundesliga and Europa... probably do a better job trying to catch up like in the Champs League pool.

Before 2nd leg game there was nice odds for Villa to qualify and I didn't missed opportunity to bet on it. Even after losing 1st leg somehow I didn't had doubts about them. But this year final looks meh. Emery probably already lost count how many Europa league finals he had. While Freiburg isn't most interesting team for me.
