You should be concerned about your wallet instead of asking how much people had in their wallet. If you put an X amount of Bitcoin, it will remain there for ages until you decide to send it to another address. However, the price would have been different. If you have bought some Bitcoin in 2014 as you stated, your wallet will be something valuable now.

I remember buying/selling things with BTC on forums around that time, it definitely has some balance but I have no way of knowing how much.

I'm not overly concerned about it. I was interested in finding out if others have had a similar experience, how much they recovered etc.

If you have forgetting your password, then try to check on if you have either of the private keys used or seed phrase in case the wallet is of non custodial storage, but if it is a custodial wallet, you may have to remember your email or number used during the registration, someone like me never used such wallet before.

Those who had recover their old wallet know the wallet.dat password if it was encrypted by a password or the seedphrase / private key.  I never heard of someone getting the private key through brute force, nor the seed phrase by brute force unless the person had an idea of the set of words and its sequence.

You can check all your notes and the txt file if somehow you think you have your private key or password jotted down.

I believe those who recovered their wallet will not tell you how much they have in that old wallet, except if it is too little to be concerned.  Anyway, I believe you have the wrong question here, instead of asking how they manage to get their password, or private key and the tools and techniques to use, you asked a question unrelated to your problem.

My journey in cryptocurrency is not long, early 2022, so in this short time I have not encountered many things that are impossible to recover. I have not lost my wallet yet or logged out but I have not been in a situation where it is difficult to recover it. I had a wallet that had a few dollars that I was able to recover and that I put some Bitcoin in at the end of 2022 which currently shows a balance of about one and a half times that in my portfolio.

I managed to recover my old Bitcoin wallet before but in my case I knew the password. What I’m just missing is 1 seed phrase since I intended to remove 1 word when I saved it to my notepad before to avoid being hacked in case someone exploited my device and view my notepad containing my seed phrase.

Later, when I took it out after many years, I saw that the display was glitching and suddenly nothing was showing on the display, my head was in a state of shock, my brain was hanging. When I could not run Trezor despite many attempts, I remembered that I may have physically backed up the keys, after searching through all my documents for 1 year, I found the keys. A very exciting event in my life

Anyway, in your case, if you can remember some partial words of your seed or password, I would say use one of the offline open-source tools that has a brute-force combo. Exercise utmost caution before resorting to any wallet recovery companies because most are scams or shady. Also avoid giving your seed to strangers.

I can remember what I might have used as a password all those years ago. I might give one of the tools on Github a try.

@1ing, I have not had this experience myself because I joined bitcoin when it was already valuable and had to keep my security information very safe, but some members here have also come up with a similar complaints in the past but the solution is to at least remember some numbers or words of you password, then it can be used to Brut force the others and then recover access to your wallet but if you can not remember any number of your password, I don't think there's a way to go about recovering your wallet back. If you have the public address, you can search on blockchain to know how much you have inside.

Yes, there have been some cases of people successfully recovering their old wallets that they had forgotten about over time.  But I dont see how that information would help you in your case in any way, and especially not information about how much they managed to recover.

If you want to know how much is in there, you need to first figure out the wallets public key or address that you used to receive funds.  Once you have that, you can use a blockchain explorer to check the balance of that address.  But you probably already know that.

I wonder if you have looked into your old email accounts? who knows maybe one of the emails blockchain.info sent to you has your address.

I've also heard that the mentioned wallet offered an option to people to send back-ups in their email account. I would try to search possible related keywords in the inbox/es.

OP, as many have mentioned above I will say the same thing. You should think about how to recover your wallet. Maybe now your wallet can be very valuable.

I have not faced any such problem yet. Although my crypto journey is not long, I am very aware of this, I have stored wallet passwords and private keys in a safe place.

Dont reply to any DMs that are sent to you, someone claiming to help you for free. Don't send your encrypted wallet to anyone except a wallet recovery service. If you search this forum you will find a few of those services.

Yes it can be recovered but it depends on how difficult your password is. If your password is simple and short like a name or place or thing then those are very easy to crack. But if its extremely long with special characters then there is a chance it might never be able to be recovered. It would help if you can remember some characters.

Scary, yeah, but one which isn't avoidable. Hardware devices can only last for a handful of years. If the buttons don't work, it may not be usable anymore. If the screen isn't anymore clearly showing the characters, you can't use it either. Or if the port or battery are already worn out, you'd probably have to replace the entire thing.

Just lately, I also had to discard my main hardware wallet because of display problems. Lucky me, I had one extra lying around. I didn't have to order a new one and wait for quite a while before I could get access to my funds.

That's why it can't be overemphasized to keep multiple backups in secure locations.

If this is not a fun post, you should probably be more concerned about wanting to recover your wallet than concerned about how much is in the wallet of the next person, and just incase you do not know that, people wouldn’t want to disclose how much they hold in their wallet to anyone so you should probably take some chill pill and be worried more over how to recover your wallet safely.
For the record, they have been people or companies that offer wallet recovery services and one of them I’ve seen lately is the keychainx, don’t know if I got the name right but they are into wallet recovery and I don’t think they charge so much and in one of their post, they made mentioned of helping to recover a wallet with small amount for free but they charge around 10 to 20 percent, depending on how much you have in your wallet.

Dont reply to any DMs that are sent to you, someone claiming to help you for free. Don't send your encrypted wallet to anyone except a wallet recovery service. If you search this forum you will find a few of those services.

Even if it is a wallet recovery service, always do a whole lot of research about their services, check their trust feedback, verify their website and make sure you are talking to the right people, they internet and scammers can be really crazy at times.
