Based on the definition that you have, I'm more of a player than a gambler, primarily because of the mood that I would have when gambling. It's not much of a strict "only player" or "only gambler" mode, but the emotion that I'm feeling is somewhat added.

By your definition I can be both depending on the game that I’m playing.

I’m a gambler when I’m playing slot games and other luck based game while a player when playing sports betting or poker.

There’s no way I can apply analysis on a luck based game. Also Player/Gambler is just a term for person that playing/gambling casino games.

Player is a gambler too if they are gambling games that contain risk.

Nice topic OP, I haven’t seen a question like this before and for me I’d rather be a player than just a gambler because my goal is to build my skills and someday be profitable in gambling especially in sports betting, when I was new I was just relying on luck without any real analysis just hoping to win.

Now that I’ve learned more I know there’s actually a way to make profit if you take it seriously, I’ve been trying to do things right but honestly I’m still not there yet though I’m not giving up, not anytime soon.

In my experience, if there is a difference, it's that a gambler cannot help themselves - they're drawn in like a moth to a flame and do not know the right time to leave. If a player went into a casino with $100 or even $1,000 dollars to drop, they might go up and they might go down, but they'll cut themselves off at that amount. I've seen gamblers who don't have any red lines, when they feel bitter and angry after taking a loss they double down to withdraw even more money for spending. It's usually a bad idea to be in that category because you'll never have enough and are just chasing those very short term dopamine hits all the time, which will end up as a very expensive habit.

Am a true gambler not a player,the difference between gambler and player is very clear,so to me am not a player but a gambler,so in essence am a a gambler in all aspects of football predictions.

Yea I agree, there is a fine line depending on what you are betting on. Playing luck
based games doesnt give the opportunity to create an analysis but some do

Okay, but you're missing an additional distinction. You can't be a skill player playing casino games, whereas you can be a gambler in skill games. If you tell me that you have a lot of skill to win at roulette, I'm just going to laugh at you. However, in games like poker, even though there is room for skill, there are people who treat it as if they were playing roulette.

On the context of the discussion, I think being a gambler is prone to addiction and not being a player. I have always preached the need to become a player which is taking gambling as a business and not really entirely on luck. If you put in the work in your analysis of matches, you will have better betting results, this is what players does. It is not that those analysis do not fail, they do but good analysis increases your chances of winning and your win rate will, by extension, increase too.

I don't totally agree with you on these definitions and I have not seen such definitions anywhere so I consider both player and gambler the same because the major reason they gamble or the common reason they play betting is to make profit nothing much and not all the people you call gamblers play for fun or entertainment. But if I'm to take your definition I will say I'm a player not a gambler because I focus on winning, profit and I carry out analysis to make sure I win even though nothing is sure in betting but like I said I don't really agree with your definition but I believe everything depends on mindset.

I guess no one would say they’re a gambler based on what the OP meant. For me, I also aim to win in gambling, maybe even be profitable like the pros, so I’d call myself a player since I’m trying to develop my skills. Of course, this only applies to skill-based gambling not games like slots, roulette, dice, and stuff like that.

I’ve noticed how sports betting has become more popular that’s why I got interested in it. I keep trying to improve my skills, but I can still say I’ve got a long way to go before I’m really on the right side, because you know how it is, if you’re not profitable yet, then something’s still missing.

Well I am a bit of both but the problem is that you can't just control yourself after you have started losing, both in the rush and thrill of games like slot machines and both when you are playing skill games like poker. In slots we all know that we lose it most of the time though in poker even when we try to be patient we start to slowly lose it as long as we are losing money and we start making bad decisions. I don't know how many times I have started playing with a plan and yet I have gone completely out of it by doing all things that were not originally in my plan, like losing all the balance  . Now I tend to play with little money so I don't go playing without an aim and go wildly crazy in my bets like I used to, so I would say now I am a gambler and player with a very small balance compared to what I used to have.

Let that be reflected in your gambling results, because if not, it’s just all talk. Actions are what prove it. You know planning is important, and I’m sure a lot of us make a plan before gambling, but we also have to accept that not everyone who has a plan is disciplined enough to stick with it.

It all comes down to one thing, lack of emotional control. It’s not just about making a good game plan, it’s about how you execute it, and that’s where emotion control becomes a must.

I think both are only the same. If a gambler/player gamble or plays for fun, they should be using amount they can afford to lose, so NO! Emotions and the rest you said there won't take over at them. You should not feel guilty if you got caught up with the excitement.

First of all, we are only a human that can make mistakes and then second of all, it is still beneficial for you. In my case, I think I am both strategic and playing for fun, in a way that I manage my bets and bankroll very well but the game that I am playing is only slot, lol.

I’d say I’m more of a player but sometimes the gambler side still kicks in especially when the game is so much intense or there is a streak that I want to ride. For me being a player means playing smart not just relying on luck. I try to study patterns, set limits & make sure I don’t go beyond what I can afford to lose but of course part of the fun is the adrenaline rush so I get why others enjoy it for the thrill. At the end of the day it’s all about balance, enjoying the game & keeping control.

I enjoy passing the time; I wouldn't exactly call myself a gambler, but when playing in a group, I tend to play like everyone else in my group, rather than playing alone. You are not really right with the word player, unless the person is playing game and not using it to bet or gamble, while a gambler is the person that is using casinos products and services to have fun. Skilled or not skilled, he is not a player but a gamblers because he is using money to play the games or the bet.

Op this is the first time I am hearing that there is a differentiation among gamblers. I was thinking all gamblers fall into the same category. If someone had asked me about this, I would have said gamblers includes both the people that are doing it for fun and those that are doing it for profits, while players are sports athletes. your explanation to me really contradictory. I think players are actually the ones that should be gambling for fun and not gambler as you have pointed out . I know there are people that don't want to associate themselves or be addressed as gambler. So they will quickly say that they are players rather than gamblers. I don't see myself as a player regardless of what your explanation are, it will appears am among those that really want to hide under the shadows or pretense because they don't want others to know that they are gambling.

That sounds like some hardcore cognitive dissonance. Are you really that uncomfortable to be seen as a gambler, that you need new term to define you?

Here's a pill that's hard to swallow: There are no "players" in casinos, other then games you are betting on.

You can't really have a "winning strategy" because in sports, bookmakers add the margin to true odds on their favor.
In other games, the mathematical margin that favors the casino is build into the game. Even in poker, where skill plays a major role, it's still gambling as luck plays a huge role in it.

You can't plan to win. You can only trust that one day, because there's a small possibility for it, you'll win big. But that's luck and by definition, it's gambling.
