The world we live in is evolving and changing fast. more people are earning income from their phones and laptops like never before. We all experienced COVID and saw how it affected the economy. Yes companies had to close but few stood their ground due to the fact that they had online workers who could attend to we the buyers/consumers without being in an office.
People are now acuring skills such as coding, free lancing, web development, programming and many more. Not just because their sick and tired of office work but because technology has made it possible for anyone to work anywhere, some even anytime. and earn without stepping into an office.
But my question remains. Are online jobs the future of global employment, or you see it as a phase just passing by.
Interesting question, OP. I wonder how this trend will balance with traditional jobs long-term. Like, will companies eventually prefer fully remote staff everywhere, or is it more about hybrid setups? Also, are certain regions better positioned for this shift? Kinda curious if anyone has stats on how much of the workforce went online post-COVID

Stats wise post COVID a huge chunk of jobs went online. In some countries like the US and parts of Europe, around a third to almost half of workers do some form of remote work now. Fully remote exists but it’s more niche, mostly tech, startups, digital roles. Big corpos still want people back at least sometimes.

I believe since COVID period, online jobs are not "future" of global employment, they are the current present of it. Just recently Coinbase got a lot of userdata leaked and had to pay a huge fine and still working towards finding who did it, only because they moved customer support to some other nation, made it online and that way everyone around the world could apply and some of those people sold the data to bad people.

That wasn't the case pre-covid, they did it afterwards to maximise profits. We are going to see much more of this, manufacturing, data, many jobs done on PC can be done remote, and we will move there.

Online jobs have become part of a structural transformation; they are not a passing trend. Remote work already existed before COVID-19, so that contingency only accelerated it.
Obviously, online work cannot be the only work model. There are sectors that require physical presence to operate, such as healthcare, construction, manufacturing, among others. Therefore, it could be said that the future is hybrid. An important point to take into account is that online work may seem easy, but in reality it requires, or rather demands, greater individual responsibility, discipline, continuous learning, and strong judgment.

For me I'll always advice any one that comes across me to always learn as much skill as possible.  Times are changing and the need for technological advancement hence the need to acquire these skills. Skills that will fetch you money regardless ofbthe current demand of the economy. You need to equip yourself so that you are not left out behind.

What we lived in now? Nothing but a modern world where technology have taken over and these technologies make works very easier. This is the online job that have kept most of our youths busy and self employed. There's absolutely nothing holding us down in this world except you choose to be ignorant of the legitimate information flying down. During the COVID 19 period, public organizations was shut down and we know most people were left unemployed.

We can see pandemic in the every century because millions of people want to get stable job and they want to get government job because they will get pension after the end of service. Many people want to do a business because they want freedom and we didn't get any freedom . Many people are doing online jobs because they know that online work is easy as comparison to offline because we don't need to go to any place and we are doing our own business but we need to learn the market which is not an easy. People should earn from online because in the future they will get returns of that . Next generation should be aware of online work because after few years , everything will be online and every person will pay online.

Yeah, this is how things are shifting fr.

Every generation faces its own kind of “pandemic,” not always health related, but economic pressure. That’s why so many people chase government jobs stability, salary, pension, safety net. It makes sense. People want security in an unstable world.

I don't mean to make anybody depressed, but I think the only future that I can personally see in terms of employment and job market starts with an A and ends with an I and all that humans would get is a door on top of which is written "Exit" Sad

The real issue, in my opinion, is whether people adapt early or wait until they’re forced to. Those who learn how to work with AI will likely do just fine, while others may struggle.
Anyway, just my two satoshis as well.

Just my two satoshis.

AI will gradually replace humans in some jobs. That was inevitable, and it has even been happening already. But to say that it will completely replace humans, and that many people will become unemployed or that there will be no jobs left for humans, is incorrect.

Look at the history of human development and you will see that each technological revolution has eliminated some obsolete jobs. But at the same time, it also creates many new jobs for people. Like the advent of the internet, email, and telephone, these technologies have eliminated many jobs such as mail carriers, typists...But you see, many new jobs have been created, and people just need to adapt to survive.

Similarly with AI, it will eliminate old jobs and create new ones for us.

The initial shift was due to Covid19, everyone switched to the digital world because there were no activities that could be done, feeling bored and unable to go to the office then looking for online work and since then there have been more and more content creators in the gaming industry, food and beverages and others, advertising services have also become more massive online than billboards on the roadside, service jobs that can be done online are still many jobs that require direct physical activity, but factory work is still a favorite unless in the future it will be replaced by robots there will be no more space for humans to work offline.

Online Jobs are here to stay.
Working remotely is a lot easier for both the employee and the employer. For the employer you don't need to build office structures such as work benches and others, for the employee it totally eliminates the cost of transportation

The post corona was as a result of limited choice, business have to adjust to the economy situation. Those that couldng adjust were losing much to the extent they have to adjust as well but immediately economy becomes fully open, everyone jump back to business like nothing happen but this has helped some business cut down cost a lot that going back physical was so hard. When Elon Musk bought Twitter, the company had more than half of its users that has never step a single leg in the Twitter headquarter, something had to be done immediately.

Contrary to physical job, I'm not sure but my personal preference prefer showing up st office 2 or 3 times a week makes me productive than when I decide to lock myself up in the room doing the work. I feel my body my is programmed and used to not staying in one place but I preferred to switch up my environment within some period of time and not stay at home.

Online Jobs are here to stay.

This is relative, remote work doesn't make some do work easier, sometimes it's makes people lazy. The advantage of been away from place of work is you can do it when you like, you don't have anyone looking at you and you work under less pressure unless the work is given a timeline for submission. There is comfort in being away from your boss especially if it's not a friendly one.

The real issue, in my opinion, is whether people adapt early or wait until they’re forced to. Those who learn how to work with AI will likely do just fine, while others may struggle.
Anyway, just my two satoshis as well.
I agree, because I also believe that AI is not a threat for the humankind but it's going to become a great assistance for any work we might be doing, because it can help us improve work efficiency in anything we are doing, as long as we understand its use cases and know how we can make it useful for us. Those who are afraid that AI will replace them and take their jobs should start training themselves to be able to use AI into their work, which means that if they can incorporate AI into what they are doing, they are not going to be replaced.

Another solution to the problem is for people to learn skills that they know are irreplaceable by AI, like skills that they know will always require human input, and if they are very good at them, they will never be replaced by AI. There are so many such professions where AI's input, so far or even in the future, will be very minimal, and firms and companies will always need human employees to take care of the operations.

Before COVID, from home is not that prominent yet companies want their employees to be at the office but after the COVID the companies adjusted to work from home setup to let their employees work at home to be safe from the pandemic but with this setup their are many companies opening jobs that supports WFH setup which opens more opportunities for people and also convenient because you can work anywhere as long as you have internet and a device like laptops. In my opinion this can also help global employment because they expand the people they hire internationally.

I mean we see how quickly the online jobs or work from home jobs become popular in a lot of countries, even here in my country, it is a huge industry, and a lot of people here is starting to transition into online jobs since it is just pay way higher than the normal 9 to 5 jobs here in my country and your even getting paid higher than the minimum wage earner here in my country so it's obviously a better choice when it comes to salary, But it has a market and it is just not for everyone.

It is surely great if your industry and support online job but it is just not for everyone and there are a lot of advatages and disadvantages as well, like online jobs are just way competitive you need a good portfolio and you just dont have the securities of a corporate job, online employer could easily get rid of you if you are doing a bad job they could easily replace you, corporate jobs have regular employees where you have the security that you are not going to get fired easily or atleast without getting a back pay.

It is for sure going to be a part of the future global employmeny but but wasn't just the thing, it is not going to replace the normal corporate jobs or something it is just going to be an addition.

But my question remains. Are online jobs the future of global employment, or you see it as a phase just passing by.

It's undeniable that working online has become incredibly popular thanks to the Covid pandemic and is trending towards even stronger growth. It can be said that it is not a passing trend but an inevitable part of the labor market.

Working online not only opens up many opportunities for everyone but also helps companies and employers save costs and access the global labor market.
However, I believe that online work will threaten or completely replace traditional jobs. In my opinion, both will coexist, creating a diverse and flexible work environment, and people can choose the form that best suits their needs.
