Sometimes, riding the trend is not worth it because of high competition in the market. Instead, find a business that is unique but still may pass on the taste of the consumers.
There may be a high competition but the demand is also high, so it can still be worth the risk. Also, are we sure that others have a better quality than ours?

People love foods so sell something that shows your own originality, and not adopting what is being in trend. People love perfumes, so think of a unique scent that your customers will surely love using, at least the scent is from your own brand, not from the known scents in the market. Women love beauty products, now create something organic that is not expensive but affordable in the market. And the most important thing, make sure the effectivity is high so that people will keep coming back patronizing your product.
I think it is hard to create something that is original from those, but usually being original can come out from the arts industry. The only thing that we can do to still get the appeal of the people in terms of food is to have our own recipe or how we do the plating. As for the beauty and scents, we can make a change by how we package the products. For the price, I think it is not really recommended to lower it. They say that a high price can have a psychology and makes people think that our products are truly high in quality.

One business strategy is seeing what's usually trending or popular among the masses and build products around it. For example, the young people seem to be enjoying matcha more and more these days promoting it as a lifestyle. Hence why we see more and more coffee shops offering matcha drinks. People incorporating matcha into their food menus as creatively as they can.

Now I ask what kind of businesses do not need to follow a trend because they are always on trend? An example would be supermarkets. People always need food. Food will never go out of trend so it can be a good business. A laundry shop is another example. People wear clothes and dirty laundry always exist which is why people will always look for laundry shops. What other businesses can you think of that people will always need?
Honestly OP, you’re already on the right track thinking about “evergreen” needs. Other stuff I’d put in that category: pharmacies, gas stations, basic utilities (electricity, water), maybe even mobile/data providers. These aren’t flashy, but they’re steady. DYOR if you wanna see which of these scale well without relying on hype

It is worth the risks, because when the demand is high, there will always be a chance for you to make a profit if the supplier can't accommodate all the demands. All you need is thorough research and knowledge of how to run those kinds of business models.
Those unique types of business bear a higher chance of failure than success, because you will never know if it will attract your target market, as it has never been tried before. Not to mention, you will even need further research on how to start, make it afloat, and sustain it for at least a period of time, where you can break even on all the costs you spent putting up the new and unique business.

Yes, that's right. We must seek opportunities in any situation when starting a business, and trends are also a major factor in building a business these days, especially since we can easily promote through social media. Whatever the current trend, you must be able to capitalize on it effectively. You must be able to check what's trending, aka research, and be able to capitalize on opportunities there.

In this era, I observe many successful people share one common characteristic They stay relevant to the times adapt to change and often even become pioneers. In building a business we must also have a mindset that a business doesn't need to be flashy, because a flashy business without profit is useless. It's better to have a business that looks boring and unglamorous but still makes substantial and stable profits. Don't chase the wrong thing.

Trends are consensus. By the time something is trending, the early money has already been made. What you're actually capturing when you're chasing trends is the midpoint of the curve which is fine, but it's also crowded and margin-compressed. The people who gained real wealth from trends usually got there before the trend had a name. Everyone else is fighting for scraps calling it opportunity.

Your point about boring businesses printing money quietly - that's the bit I'd put in neon if I could. There's this psychological pitfall in which individuals create businesses to make themselves feel a certain way about themselves rather than to solve a problem someone will pay them to solve. The flashy business is often a self esteem project disguised as entrepreneurship. And the market doesn't care who you are. It cares about whether or not you're useful.

What I find fascinating is how social media has turned the old business logic on its head. It used to be, build something valuable then tell people about it. Now it's: build an audience, then figure out what to sell them. Both models work. But, they make very different founders and very different stress patterns. The second one couples your income to your relevance, which means you can never stop performing. That's a trade off that's worth a name before you sign up for it.

Trend or tradition? I think it's important to make something that is old fashioned and more innovated then just a trend. Trend is here for a moment and will go away, whereas if you are handling something that has been around for centuries then you can't be wrong, but you need to put some innovation on it or a better branding for it to be able to sell.

Selling bread will never be going away, selling some weird trendy keychain or whatever will be gone. I would say selling a product that has been around but with a better innovation or marketing would be better.

There are those old type of businesses that until now are still making profits, though not that really high, because of market high competition, but they are still competitive within the new trends in the business. This is a good proof that a good business will not only thrive because its riding within the trend, but its a business of all season, that even years may pass by, this business will never lose its potential customers because its simply just serving the people with high satisfaction and excellent customer service.

I agree with your examples, but even “always-needed” businesses aren’t risk-free. Supermarkets have thin margins, laundry shops depend heavily on rent and utilities. Demand is stable, yeah, but competition is brutal. Newbies reading this thread should DYOR before assuming these are easy wins.

In my opinion, every business always has risks, but good management and service to customer satisfaction will make your business grow quickly. For the laundry business, cleanliness is the main thing, customers are looking for clean and fast laundry. I think this business will be very popular in the future, even though for business owners the profits are relatively small. However, to survive, this business can be an option. For the supermarket business, the location must be in a strategic place with a large population. People still shop humans can hold off on other needs, but basic needs such as food, humans will still buy them, and supermarkets provide the products. In my opinion, currently the best business is the food business, humans cannot live without food, and to access it, food is sold in supermarkets.

What other businesses can you think of that people will always need?
The major economics around this context is to locate what people need or a problem to solve, and ensure you solve them. This understanding alone has helped a lot of people. All you need is to either be creative to solve direct problems, or be resourceful enough to be able to meet people's need and demands. This works like magic and has never failed before, unless you mismanaged, or do not have good customer relations.

From what I’ve seen, transportation is another one. Buses, taxis, fuel stations, logistics — people always need to move or move goods. Even when the economy is bad, transport doesn’t stop, it just adapts. That’s why these businesses survive multiple cycles.

Food is a very good economic sector. Hmm, maybe it could be a good idea too, although not as popular, but many people end up damaging their health by following trends, so the pharmaceutical or health sector could be a good idea if you know how to plan correctly

This reminds me of a recent video I watched on Youtube which suggested to go after boring businesses.
The businesses included a laundromat, vending machines, car wash, warehouses etc..
The moral of video is that if we go after boring businesses which are being used by customers on daily basis then it is bound to make us money.
I don't have any affiliates to it but just found it interesting.  Grin

I don't think supermarket is a good example bro but maybe from your perspective it is but they also have to move with the trend as a matter of fact almost every field has to change their ways with the trend. Did you saw any ceo of the company making reels for their business before, now most of them are making haha.

I am not the only one to notice this I am sure.

Thinking about business that remains the same and never changes with the trend is not so hard, like you can have a oil refinery, petrol pump, you can sell solar panel but they also changes with the technology.

There are some products that always remain trending over time, such as cigarettes, which are always trending even though they are banned. Coca-Cola, Pepsi, and national soft drinks are always on the list of favorites of young people and are always trending, so these products must be prioritized to establish a business. If you are establishing a supermall, you must give importance to the products that are automatically trending. There are some foods that are on the favorite list of children and youth, such as fast food, etc., which you should give priority to.
A trend doesn't stay. I'd rather say that cigs are a common product for daily life of the people. Same goes with the soft drinks. When doing a business, it is up to us if we will go for the short or long-term. For the short-term, we can follow what business is on trend but if we are into longer terms, then we can go for the common products that people use on a daily basis. A super mall is not easy and not for starters but it composes of different products or stalls. This includes trending and the common ones.

Businesses that solve basic human needs usually don’t care about trends, food, shelter, health, and security never go out of style, things like pharmacies, basic healthcare services, repair shops, and water supply businesses stay relevant no matter what’s trending on social media people might switch brands, but the need itself never disappears.

Yes, they don't need to be in trend but at some point, they should also take time to elevate their businesses as technology keeps improving every time, and that people are also expecting quite something new to offer.

However, my point is, business that rely on trends have no guarantees that they will continue to thrive, but I have to say that there also quite few trend businesses that are until now gaining more customers and sales profits.

While no one can escape from basic necessities, sellers and owners of healthcare services or repair shops must also be aware of emerging or emerging trends. Because when some people switch from one brand to another they've never purchased before, new opportunities and opportunities begin to emerge for sellers of basic necessities, as well as providers of healthcare and other services, as you mentioned. So, in essence, knowledge is always invaluable for everyone, especially those selling basic necessities and those selling a wide variety of needs and brands.

Matcha is a great example of this, yes a lot of people drink that right now, but that doesn't mean they are going to keep drinking that for years, it was something else before, it's matcha now and it will be something else later. This is why I think it is going to see this being something that is temporary, that is not something that is here to stay and you should avoid that as much as you possibly can, that's a bad business  idea.
Matcha isn't really a trend business because it's not easy to make matcha, you need to have the tool because the powder is hard to mix. People who don't have the tool or not want to spend couple minutes to create will choose to buy it, hence the demand is still high.

The recent trend business in FnB which already faded away is magic water, it's just a water with coconut/banana syrup. Nothing special, anyone can make it in just 10 seconds.
Trends could be change in the short period of time because many people are in search of trends and they are making trends and people have no research about their growth and future but they are doing this because the have nothing else to do because they did not learn anything which could give them benefit in the future and they can start their business and they can earn by selling their skill. People don't want to work hard and they want to earn money easily and that is not good for them but market could be change at anything and there are high fare in the society. If they want to be successful in the world if business then they should learn the skill which is high in demand and at least for 10 years its demand will be high and you will earn high amount of money by that .

For a sustainable business to be set up successfully I don't think that, following up a business that is trending is actually needed because trends always die down no business should be built around what is rigning online or what you see other do that they are successful with.the first thing that should come to your mind when it comes to a business is identifying a need and solving such a problem. This is the secret of every successful business that, is existing today.

One thing about life is your ability to stay within your lane, that someone else is doing a particular business and is successful in it doesn't mean that you too will be successful when you go into it. Your ability to discover yourself is the key to life and this also translates to business ventures too.
