I like it. Would be a welcome re-addition for me. This must have been before my time because I don't remember that at all. I do remember the Karma system which was a little bit useless. I would get negative karma for railing against scams.

i’ve never used the ignore button so far. for some reason, even if someone has been ignored by the entire forum, or even if their posts are pure trolling and completely empty, no one has managed to annoy me enough to make me use the ignore button. if i don’t like a message or the person who posted it, i just scroll down a bit. also, even if someone deserves to be ignored, i’m still a bit curious about what they’re writing.

still, if i were to use the ignore feature, i’d definitely want it to come back. maybe not in a way that’s too distracting, but something similar to the “trust color” on bpip. (or whatever the old version was like):

i think a term like “ignore color” wouldn't be a bad idea for bpip, or for the forum either.

don’t people who actively use ignore ever wonder what’s written in that empty space?

I don't usually Ignore users because I don't like their posts, it's just being efficient: why waste time over and over again reading posts that aren't worth it, if I can spend the same time reading better posts?

I would not really support this idea since I almost don't ignore anyone, It may also affect the decision of others as they may want to ignore you since a lot of people already does, which is flawed.

Even if it should be returned,  I am most interested on how it's abuse should be prevented and my idea on it would be as follows:
That ignoring a user takes the same format as "Report to moderator" and the mod goes over your reason for ignoring the user and reviews it for abuse and if it is valid, he adds it to count for the user, else it doesn't count (but this does not affect your decision to ignore the user, just to count towards the glowing button).

It may mean adding more mods if it proves overwhelming, but preventing abuse is as important as implementing a feature.

I also don't ignore anyone, but I don't have a problem with the proposal.

Even if I don't ignore, I don't think it's bad for me to know some idiots identified by others.

Seeing the level of glow will hint you on the level of attention to be given the user.

I don't deny the fact that some users are effortlessly annoying, not based on post quality alone, but character and poor social life.

If you mean our post and our account on the Bitcointalk forum, then I know that someone has ignored me from the forum and it was probably because of my language. A member of my community with whom I had a conversation and I did not listen to him, then he ignored me from the forum. Now, in fact, he knows better whether he has done anything to me or not and it has been a long time since he has not even posted mentioning me. It should be like this, using the ignore button does not do anything, but it seeks to reopen what he has written. If we do not like a person or his language, we should not read his post like you do. This is a good idea and everyone should have this thought that if we do not like someone, we should not talk to him but not push him away in this way.

It is a good concept to make the ignore button obvious to users to show the extent of trashed posts made by the user and help others to mind their dealings with the account. The extent of glowing will determine the number of ignorers. With a range of 10-25-50-100 and above.

But I hope it won't encourage others to see another means of victimising who doesn't accept their opinion.
