I know that many countries now require a passport as proof of age to access the internet. The justification for this decision, among other things, is the abundance of online gambling ads (and other dangers). In my opinion, this approach to solving the problem is madness. 🙎

In my country, there's a saying: "A bad doctor cures a headache with a guillotine." And a politician like Churchill (if I'm not mistaken, this is his quote) said that those who choose security over freedom will ultimately have neither freedom nor security... 🤷

In my opinion, if a child learns about gambling too early, that's certainly bad... However, introducing digital censorship and creating a digital concentration camp is sheer madness! It will also create enormous problems for that child!

Ultimately, in my opinion, this is the direct responsibility of parents. In my opinion, parents have a responsibility to explain to their children that gambling is not a business.  Gambling shouldn't be viewed as a source of constant profit, but rather as emotional stimulation and entertainment. In this regard, I was lucky. As a child, I loved reading, and one of my favorite books was Alexandre Dumas's novel The Three Musketeers. In this novel, the characters constantly gamble (at dice). So, by reading books, I was simultaneously preparing for adulthood. Because gambling is a part of adulthood. It's like sex. A child will sooner or later learn about adults' sex lives. Hiding this information from a child is foolish. It's the direct responsibility of parents and school teachers to explain to their children that sex exists, that it's not something bad or disgusting, but simply something that happens in a person's life as they become adults. That sex is connected to love and having children. It's a part of adulthood.

Even if one social media app decides to prevent those kind of ads, will others do same? The answer is nope, those ads will continue to pop up in other social media and if kids are still watching those social media app, they will still be influenced by it. The solution here which I have stated many times in my other comments is that parents should keep a good relationship with their kids and strictly monitor what they are doing and guide them so that they won't start gambling at the age they are not supposed to.

Not only does a child have a phone, it also means that they are more likely to get involved in gambling, but children are also more likely to engage in immoral activities through their phones, which can be more harmful to them than gambling. I agree with you social media sponsored Casino's which pop up while you are navigating the social media space can only be harmful to the children of parents that, may not be concerned about the well being of their children. Because I don't believe that any responsible parent who buys a phone for their child will actually leave that child with having a level of restrictions and control over the activities that, the child uses the phone for. YouTube is a social media where you can watch videos and the videos can be carton and other funny things. You don't have to have Facebook and other popular apps. The problem with ads is that ads can appear on anywhere on your phone especially as an android phone. I don't know if Google had partnership with all apps on Google play store but I can tell you that most apps on Androids runs ads, that's the only way they make money to support the projects.

Ads are based on the algorithm of your search, I'm not sure if kids have this way of exploring apps. If they don't do all this, even if there is an ads to show, it will never show any casino ads. You’re right on this. I let my kid use only Youtube Kids which only allow her to watch kids content without any ads or click bait that will lead to different site.

Also, there’s already parent control available on gadgets or apps which give the ability to filter content.

Ads is so rampant these days on social media but I never encounter one on an app dedicated on kids.

You have raised a very important topic. Earlier, I used to see that the ads on social media were for games. Now, the ads are for games but every game is connected to the casino. And these ads are run with such a high number of hits that a person cannot help but be influenced. True we can’t blame social media platforms for anything, they are also a source of income for people who work with them and they always discourage underaged to make use of their services but since it’s online it’s easy for kids to disguise as adults and there is no way they can be identified. Social media nowadays has huge influence on a lot of people especially young people, it’s like an open place where different things are advertised and promoted to get the attention of people so parents are supposed to be responsible for their children how they are exposed and how they are influenced by social media. Children can’t know things on their own so a parent is supposed to guide their children to the right path by teaching them what’s right or wrong. Censorship doesn't save people, I used to bet all the time as a kid but not much harm to it on a limited basis.  I consider the best solution to educate kids along the way about risks, otherwise they arrive at adulthood without considering all the normal risks of life.

How can social media platforms help protect children from seeing gambling ads?

Not just casino ads though, every ads or promotions or anything you see in the social media could be harming to anyone not just kids. But for the younger generation it's very hard to monitor what they can and can't see in the internet as everything is there.

I don't think that the social media platform will be blame though, maybe they have this kind of restrictions on some of them on what the underage might see. So still up to the parents to really be their on their side at a young age so that they can see and we can give what they can only accessed until they are old enough. So we carry the responsibility here.

For teenagers and the younger generation, social media is certainly no stranger. Their social environment is certainly very close to social media. Even for those still in school or college, some lecturers sometimes give assignments online, sometimes even related to social media. The problem is not social media, but in my opinion, our mindset, including those who are still children. If children are educated properly, perhaps they can distinguish between things to avoid and what to pursue. And in fact, even though parents educate their children well from a young age, as they grow up, they will learn for themselves, and at that time the decision is theirs.

That’s why we need to educate the next generation about gambling, because we may see even more gambling ads soon. Children are susceptible to the ads, not just gambling ads. But gambling ads could be more dangerous to them because many things can attract them to try. Children are curious about something new and they don't know anything.

They will use their devices to visit the casinos without parents knowing. Even they can ask parents or other adults around them for help. They can ask adults to finish something they don't know how to do.

This will pose risks for the next generation especially if parents don't know anything about them. It just a matter of time for parents seeing their children become addicted to gambling. Parents must watch their children and not let them use their devices for something suspicious.
