I agree about having the willingness and the need to cooperate. If the gambling addict doesn't cooperate, no one is going to help him.
Even if tough love is applied to that, if they don't have the willingness and they are not cooperating with it.
That's just a useless help that they're doing and just like that dad, he's doing it with force and that could lead to no chance of success.

Indirectly it has to come from ourselves as gamblers if we really want to quit because determination will definitely make this easier. As long as we still have the determination to stop gambling that we do then it is still possible to be forced, different when we do not have the determination to stop and try to be forced by the closest person or family.

Maybe this is effective for a while but not for the long term because usually this only delays it instead of stopping permanently because they still have hopes to play and it could be that at one time they will play and the addiction will get worse because they stopped gambling because of the coercion of the closest person before.

I support your opinion bud, putting someone in jail for 2 year or even for 6 months I personally think will not change the person and stop him from gambling, I've meet people who quit addiction in some habit for a year, two years or more but eventually fell back in to it after some time again.

So there is every possibility that a person who is put in jail for 2 years to help me quit gambling may actually stay there for the 2 years, then come out and surprisenly continue to gamble, and let's not also forget that there are alot of gamblers in prison places as well, prisoners play different games and use anything available for betting, so there is every indication this strategy may not actually be the best solution to helping someone quit gambling.

That would be my advise if i have a son who cant control the behavior, using military force wont solve the problem.

You start believing that gambling is the way to escape poverty.

Many gamblers often say they will quit, but as soon as they have money, they return to betting. Any gambling advice seems unable to make a gambling addict stop, in my opinion, only their own self-awareness can put an end to it. Sometimes a person only realizes their mistakes after experiencing hardship, and then acts more responsibly going forward. I think the best way to shift focus and forget about gambling for a while is by working or keeping busy with other activities.

Willingness is the first attempt to make to get rid of gambling addiction.  One who is not willing to start gambling is not even ready to stop gambling and the addiction will be get stronger day by day. Getting rid of addiction may not just happened immediately but so far as you are willing to stop gambling,  with the little struggle you put in to stop it will be a problem to overcome  in a short time. Getting rid over gambling addiction begins with making a decision.

For me personally, to be honest, my initial thoughts on trading were almost exactly the same as yours, OP, which was to chase profits and get rich in a short period of time. The scenario was the same as yours, where the mounting losses gave me a headache, and eventually my mindset changed from initially chasing profits to building sustainability.
This means that the most important thing in trading is not big profits, but consistent profits even if they are small. However, even small profits are not easy, there are still many things we have to learn so that trading does not become like gambling.

This is not only menta but also their minds and hearts must be aware of the fact that gambling can only give you a small return on the entire gambling activity and stop thinking that gambling can give a large profit, it is a logical flaw that causes them to lose control and addiction, if they cannot suppress their mental, emotional and wrong thoughts then there will be an end of pleasure into suffering in whatever they do with addiction.

However, in my opinion, arrest and prison are not the best way to overcome gambling addiction. In prison, a person can fall in with bad company (robbers and murderers). In such circumstances, a person risks becoming even more addicted to gambling. Moreover, they can become professional criminals and villains (which is much worse than being a gambler).

Effective or not, we won’t know until we see the result. But for me, since advice doesn’t work, maybe that’s a good thing to keep him away from gambling. However, it doesn’t mean he won’t go back after two years. The only guarantee is that they can stop him from playing for two years. The one who can help a gambling addict the most is himself. If he is determined, that two years might help, but if not, even if it’s five years, there will still be a time when he goes back to his habit.

Because if a person really want to change a simple advise even nothing , only to himself he will do his best to get out of the situation, sadly few really understand this from the start while other people do change when its too late, people are always changing when everything is so mess up, but when things are not tough they ignore simple advise even mocked the people who tell them to change, but when time comes that they are really in deep trouble they realized their mistake, but its too late some recover but most are drowned by their addiction.

How many of us even think of having the time to shift focus on others and shift time from what we are doing on a daily base, many of us are indeed battling and struggling with how we are also gambling not t o talk on having time for others and helping them out, not that we cant do so, but not everyone may be in the best position of doing so, while as for those already addicted, they should take it their personal responsibility to look for a means of dealing with this before it lead them to unwanted situations of life, while those that can also help should not hesitate in doing so.
