There are good sides for sure, but the bad seem to be more because we have a lot of irresponsible gamblers. Besides, most people do not really appreciate wins that much.. It only hits hard when you lose some money .

I feel the reason a lot of gamblers don’t appreciate wins anymore is because of the amount of money they have lost to gambling, so to them that win is more like them taking little from the huge amount they have lost to the gambling site.

I have had a physical experience of this before, I was at a physical gambling center (lotto, but we call it baba ijebu , locally) and a guy came over to check his ticket and he won some money and the agent told him to be happy since he won and his response was “do you know the amount I have lost just this week? This money I won won’t cover for the one I’ve lost and you want me to be happy?” And this is actually the reality of so many gamblers out there. Unless they somehow hit a jackpot I don’t think some gamblers are ever going to be happy with their wins or unless they just go on some crazy win streak.

Aside from the guy you said he won a huge amount of money did you know of another guy who also won a huge amount of money in gamble? I guess the answer is no because wining does not happen more often in gamble and who knows if he had lost even more than that amount he won which you really can't tell. I think that it's a small group of people, because many gamblers engage in extravagant spending after winning a tremendous amount of money, like treating their friends and buying things that they don't need, instead of their basic needs. Many of them return to gambling to win more.

It's not common to see people's live changed because of gambling. The only possible individual is those who won the lottery. But why would they tell their stories to someone or go to media? It doesn't make sense. We even have a thread that covers his face when he claimed the price for the lottery company because he doesn't want to exposed his face to the public because he knows that there will be a lot of people coming in for him as a free loader and ask free money. That's the main reason why we don't hear gambling success story. And I think it's fair though for those who won big and then just disappear in the public eye. You are right, gambling has changed lives positively too. But people ain't focused on telling stories about the wins which i think is for the good of all gamblers because if the good stories are shared just same way the negative stories are being talked about, it will ruin more gamblers than make them successful like the gamblers in the stories being talked about. Gambling is unpredictable, so sharing these life changing experiences of successful gamblers will only make gamblers more greedy and lazy. You mean those who won the lottery? They're very few, and not all of them end up in a good situation, only a very small number actually use their winnings wisely. That's why you don't often see them regularly sharing what they've done or how their lives turned out. In contrast, people who gamble regularly, gamble casually for fun, or wealthy peeps who gamble purely for entertainment are much more visible, which kind of contradicts what you mentioned, e.g. built house and business.

The largest majority of gamblers lose money in the long run. I believed I'd read the OP's story and perspective before opening the topic, but I guess I had high expectations. Let's just say that the amount of people who win life changing amounts of money is tiny, fractions of a percent, compared to people who have lost money. We're talking about one person winning a sizable sum for each 100,000 or maybe even a million that don't. That is why the story is so distorted towards people who have had a tough time gambling, especially as it is an addiction generating behavior. As long as you understand the dynamic and have enough self control before going into it, then there is usually not a problem - but people who get carried away and don't understand the odds are destined for failure. Most of the time we only hear stories about people who say gambling changed their lives, and those usually come from lottery winners. For regular gamblers like us, we don’t really experience that. And honestly, I don’t chase that kind of outcome anymore because I know it would just push me toward addiction.
