In general, universities remain the hope for every parent for their child's education and success. In developing countries, in particular, a bachelor's degree remains the primary requirement for job applications in both government agencies and private companies. Furthermore, let's look at key professions in the world, such as medicine and education. They must first study at university and earn a professional degree. Even if they are academically competent, they still can't find work without a degree.

So, in my opinion, universities and degrees remain trusted and maintain their relevance. Even though I have a degree, that degree is useless in the workplace. A degree is just a degree, a diploma is just a piece of paper.

I think university and degrees are actually more necessary to convince the society that you have go through a certain set of rules. It is more a demonstration of discipline and patience, rather than a demonstration of knowledge. In reality, degrees are not directly used in many jobs but still people have not been taken seriously without a degree. In my opinion a degree does not ensure competence but it is like a social ticket. Having the ticket it is easy to get in but how far you go inside is totally up to you.

I mean if employment process doesn't require you to have a diploma, then I can say college might not be necessary for the others as everything can be taught in the internet today. However, the process of learning should always have to undergo a series of lectures in the right order, and that's what the professors and teachers are there for.
Learning on your own could be a bit challenging. I can say, getting a degree plus learning over the internet should be the best option.

I don't know why sometimes we try to downplay the power of the university and degree as a certificate, you will not be surprised that people who tend to say ill about it sometimes are only pointing accusing fingers at education because it didn't favour them maybe due to their poor performance or other reasons but does that mean you are going to demarket it because it didn't make any serious impact in your life?

It is better for you just encourage people to look for vocational skills and technological skills while they are still schooling so they can use that to better start something for themselves if the overstretched and saturated civil servant haven't been able to grant them the opportunity.

If the benchmark is only to the digital world then surely we will think in the same direction but in fact today there are still a lot of some jobs that do have to make education as their initial requirement.

For the world of computing such as cyber or just being online maybe we can currently be self-taught but for some jobs such as becoming a doctor, pilot and even some jobs related to the public such as judges, accountants and many more that certainly require education as an initial reference so that they have a certificate that can be recognized by people.
Even for computing problems, it may still be possible to do without formal education but the fact is that education still plays a role because opportunities will be obtained if we have value or value and only a few of us can be in a decent job without an educational background behind it.

This just makes me think that you want people to support your arguments for not getting a degree, just because you don't want to get degree. And i feel like i need to point out that no one is forcing you into it.

But if you want to be something like a cybersecurity engineer or data engineer, you get to be in a school with access to tailored education and hardware that's hard to come by on your own. You also get opportunities and connections that you wouldn't get sitting in your home. And it's not only schools people learn their skills. They are polishing their skills and learning more on their free time.

Schools are supposed to challenge them and and help them go further then they would on their own. Schools and teachers quality varies, but you can't just bash all schools for few bad examples and decide that everyone needs to be an entrepreneur on their own instead and learn only from online educational material.

I dare you to try that and becoming a surgeon. Go ahead and launch your own clinic or see if anyone hires you, if you really think you can pick any skills online.

And with the explosion and ease of information which in my estimation is the decentralization, schools which used to be the center for it are no longer looked upon that way anymore. There is also the issue of time, for example, while one may have to spend 4 years in the university for a degree in computer science to be eligible for the job market, nowadays, with one year of informal training you can acquire the basic and entry level skills need to secure your first software engineering job just as the same as the 4 year software engineering graduate. However for very highly specialized skills and discipline, there are no substitues.

It seems to me that institutions are for people who follow the rules of those who want, after all, when they graduate and see that in real life you have to move on your own and socialize, which is also important for your business contacts because academic training is the tutorial. Years of work experience repeating the same thing makes you good at that thing, and if a company happens to need it and you know how to get it, it's more useful than wasting your money and time at a university. But the personal achievement of representing yourself is worth it if you're happy

Honestly, you have a point here. You see schools and institutions,it  teaches people on how to follow rules, but in real life it's a different way entirely because after graduation, is when someone thinks on how to build their own and hustle hard, because networking is very important for opportunities and businesses. The only thing school can give you is basic knowledge and it don't cover's everything.

Have work experience and doing something for a year makes someone useful and sometimes it's more valuable than degree. But if you get happiness from school that is not bad it also has value. Just at end of the day, it's what makes you fulfilled and whats works on you matters  most.

Universities are still credible, but students are losing faith. Universities still teach properly, but students are not attending regularly. Rather, students are getting involved in immoral relationships or anti-social activities. Some students are still studying in universities and gaining knowledge. The flow of the internet has made some people think that education is No longer relevant because most people and making it big even without going to the university but I disagree about university or degree losing its power, look around you and you will see that there are so many noble professions that can not be taught on the internet but it can only be learnt in the university. Courses like engineering, computer science and even in the medical field, if every other thing can be learnt online no medical courses can be taught online no matter how much they try. the university and the courses the teach in the university are the reasons why we live a life stress free because of the knowledge pass down by university professors.

Some majors are not worth pursuing on campus such as management, business, and or others that we can get through experience and also reading books or articles we only need to understand the learning modulation and we can find the sources from the internet, with the current situation where research data and writings from global economists and history are also widely available on many websites or articles for us to understand, so first understand the major you will use whether it is still worth pursuing or not in 3 to 4 years of study or more.

The problem with universities is that many have not known how to adapt; they still have slow curricula, an excess of theory disconnected from practice, not to mention the costs. In the past, a university degree was like a kind of quality seal; the knowledge of a university graduate was not questioned, because the institution not only certified knowledge but was also a symbol of discipline. But then the internet arrived, along with technical certifications and self-taught learning, to show that talent and competence can be developed outside a classroom.
However, it is a mistake to dismiss universities because they are key to deep research and to training in fields that require solid theoretical foundations; by this I mean engineering and medicine. So I would say that yes, universities can still be trusted, but no longer in a universal way as was done before.

Self learning is good and people made a huge turn in their life even after starting very late but is it possible for everyone? I am not sure the traditional way of learning still has the benefits but it lost value when it comes to job security. We are not getting any jobs anymore just because we graduated from x university, it all comes to lot of factors mostly the skill plays there role.

Some universities have a very good reputation.
If your university has bad leadership then work to change it.
Academics have done good in the past just to sell out to the loudest screamer.

Getting a degree is still valuable and if you go to the right institutions it would definitely not a waste, the problem isn't really about the degree it's what they teach in schools. Instead of just requiring qualifications as in the past, employers now require both qualifications and skills. And for higher level positions, they even require years of experience, not just qualifications or skills.

In addition, there are currently only a few online jobs that do not require a degree. Most office jobs still require and prioritize qualifications.
The job market today is more competitive than you might think, qualifications or skills alone are not enough to compete for a good job.

Degree has its worth because degree is important when you want to enter in any field because you have to learn more about the field in which you want to make your career. You should invest more time on learning the practical and theory because theory is also important when you want to get upper position in any field. You will be successful person when you have 8 to 9 years to your field because when you will get degree you are fresher and you should learn practical things if you are a person who want to get stable position in the company because there is high competition in the fields .
