Degree has its worth because degree is important when you want to enter in any field because you have to learn more about the field in which you want to make your career. You should invest more time on learning the practical and theory because theory is also important when you want to get upper position in any field. You will be successful person when you have 8 to 9 years to your field because when you will get degree you are fresher and you should learn practical things if you are a person who want to get stable position in the company because there is high competition in the fields . Degrees are nothing but piece of paper but actually matters a skills which you got in a time which yoo spent with the degree.

Degree might really be helpful sometimes even though it is just a piece of paper. To acquire that single piece of paper, we need to spend countless hours studying and attending lectures which are utmost important because those give us theoretical knowledge and without that knowledge, it is really difficult to gain practical knowledge. If someone is really smart than they can gain practical knowledge from the real-world experiences but not everyone is smart enough. Smart people usually will still go for a university degree because it backs their knowledge.

So, for me I will still trust the universities even though the knowledge we gain is not up to mark. University degree is still required on our resume as without the degree our resume will be crushed by other potential candidates.

The problem may not exactly be the univerisities or the education system but rather the lack of job opportunities after university. Even with a degree, it’s getting harder and harder to land a competitive job with good benefits. Companies usually prefer those with experience. I have seen people graduate from top universities but struggle to find a job. The market is getting tight.

Are universities still worth trusting?

Top universities will mostly have their own campus placements and specific students will land into a well-paying job right from their college. This is not the same for everyone and mostly for all universities. There are many universities which are not recognised by the board, and they also do not have any contacts when it comes to placements.

These universities mostly wind up giving the degree without any job assurance and students here are the ones who will struggle to find a job elsewhere. Yes, most of the organisations will hire candidates with experience but there is still some room for freshers to get a job even though it might not be well-paying job.

Everyone has to start small. There are a number of internships most of which are unpaid but at least they will help us in gaining the required experience which can be listed on the CV so we can find a better job. There is no harm in spending a couple of months doing this unpaid internship just because it can help us in the future.

You're right, many graduates have virtually no practical skills, as most schools teach only theory. However, learning a skill will become very easy for them. For those with a solid foundation of knowledge, they not only find it easier to develop skills but can also quickly absorb and apply new knowledge. But the problem is that many students today are lazy and complacent, they have the illusion that simply having a degree will make it easy to find a job. This is the students' own fault for having a narrow mindset, not the fault of the education system or the degree itself.

Furthermore, it would be a mistake to assume that a degree is merely a piece of paper. It’s still a ticket to entry, as most companies require it.

i will agree with you, yeah, there are things you simply cannot master by watching videos alone. Universities offer structure, depth, and mentorship that help people truly understand complex subjects, and that is why degrees still carry weight and why alots of parents still value them today.

At the same time too not every useful skill is taught in a lecture hall, which is where practical, self-taught skills come in. Using formal education as a foundation and building useful skills on top of it is the best way to develop yourself in today's world.

Universities will mostly provide in depth knowledge because they have highly qualified and experienced staff who knows how to educate the students. This is limited to only top tier universities who can afford hiring a well-educated and experienced staff. In majority of universities, the staff is undervalued, and this staff does not even have enough knowledge about the subject they are teaching. They are just some book worms who will only teach what's in the books and the students here will not really gain much knowledge, but I would say they would end up wasting their time.

The same professors who have knowledge and experience will also have online lectures which are much more valuable than joining a university with a undervalued staff. Finding the right mentor is really important here. It does not matter if that mentor is teaching online or offline.

I agree, although learning on YouTube is convenient there is a different effect of learning directly. You can ask questions in the classroom, if you make a mistake it is corrected immediately, it is very useful in practice. I think parents actually want security more than a degree, they think that a good university means their child's future is a little more secure. Although skills are now more important than degrees in many places, the chances of success really increase if practical learning and guidance go hand in hand.

Schools are important because they not only impart education but are also essential for young children to interact with their age fellows. Their is marked difference between personalities of kids that goes to school versus kids that stays at home and gets home schooling. Young kids also need to learn how to live and deal with other people in the society and that's something possible in schools only. For me 16 years of education is essential for every person and after that we can focus only on skills to get work or job.

I think anyone going to the college because their parents forced them is a disaster. Because such students will never learn anything simply because they are not interested and they are looking for a way out with a degree in hand. I guess parents want them to get a degree because most jobs require it and soon when the degree loses it's value, even the parents will not push for it.

That said, I do think degree and universities experience does help you in life. Getting a degree means you did learn something, even if forced and you have an experience of attending the university which helps you in jobs or anything you do in life. So I won't say the degrees or university would ever become worthless but yeah the application of what you learned will be more valuable for sure.

The same knowledge is available on the internet but yet parents decide to prefer schools or universities because they somewhat feel it is their responsibility to educate their child and without a proper environment it might not be possible.

There are some parents who can't afford good schools or universities but yet their children wind up in getting a high paid job or even become the future CEO of a unicorn. How did these children manage to gain the knowledge? The answer for this on the internet. We can spend much less on the internet and gain knowledge which is more powerful than that what we get in schools.

I would personally prefer the knowledge which I can get freely over the internet instead of spending thousands with the universities. I also feel that the duration we spend in universities is way too much. The same knowledge can be gained over the internet for comparably less time.

Much better if the person has the willingness to study rather than because the parents want them to. Because if it is the will of the student, he has the passion to do what's best for his grades. Up until today, it is still best to acquire degree because you have your edge in the job market. And with so many online courses, it is quite easier now for most people. You can even get your PhD now via online, which is actually hard to acquire before.
But with the question - can Universities still be trusted? For me, this is still a yes. If you want real deal, it is still best to get educated via face to face. The interaction is quite different.

I think you're completely missing the point regarding Universities.

Sure, there may be degrees/courses that can seem to be profitable given the age of technology that keeps on advancing. However, there are multiple degrees that CANNOT be taught online. To give you an actual example: you can never learn how to drive if you read books and watch videos online. Even if you have all the possible resources on how to drive, without the actual and practical training and experience, you would never know how to efficiently and effectively drive a car.

At the end of the day, what we choose as our degrees in Universities shape on how we would maximize such opportunity. You can argue that there are some students that are degree holders but there are students without any degree that are way richer than the former. Still, however, having a college degree is a sort of security that lets you gain more opportunities for employment.

In this case it all comes back to our own desires because in fact for non academic knowledge even some of the academics will be very young to be obtained through the internet but in the end when at the University with certain majors the results will be much different than when we only search on the internet.

Although this also depends on us it's just that academic abilities will still be seen as much higher than those who only search from internet sources especially now that certificates for academic degrees in some countries are always a priority in any case including employment.
It is true that not all who have a degree also have the ability and it could be that those who are nondegree and only self taught from the Internet or even experience can be much better but there is still a priority scale in this case so whether you want it or not, like it or not academic degrees are always seen as higher.

Students graduating in current era must focus on the fact that only degree is not enough to get a job but they need to develop expertise in technologies that are used in the market. I support study till under grad level because technologies and trends always keep changing and if someone has education till under grad level then he is able to lean and develop expertise in new technologies. As you said, it is generally believed that qualifications are very useful when we want to make money in a particular field. That means a degree doesn't guarantee anything, and all it can do is help you access opportunities more easily

It's like someone giving you a fishing rod, but at the end of the day you haven't caught a single fish. Is the fault with the person who gave you the fishing rod, or with the fishing rod itself? Or is it your fault because you didn't know or refused to learn how to use it before going fishing?

It's true that many graduates can not find jobs, but why not ask the opposite question. What is the reason why two people who studied and graduated from the same school, one is unemployed while the other is successful?

Universities are still credible, but students are losing faith. Universities still teach properly, but students are not attending regularly. Rather, students are getting involved in immoral relationships or anti-social activities. Some students are still studying in universities and gaining knowledge. They are being educated in various fields including medicine, engineering and others.

My friend, if you think that these are the main reasons for universities losing their prestige then you are very naive.

The absolute number 1 reason for all these students eschewing college and even some businesses not requiring them anymore is the abundance of opportunity on the internet, combined with the rising costs of enrolling in the first place.

People drop out of college because they find a way to make money with crypto, a business, trading etc. Some are successful, some are not. But even for the ones who are not chasing short-term opportunity, there is all of the information in these courses on Youtube for free. Even the universities themselves contribute this material to Youtube. They call it "MOOCs". I call it "5-figure debt bullet dodgers". They are very great to study if you want a good career, but you have to be studying 24/7 and not go out for dinner or to party.

In fact, I have read about a lot of people who have made it, in many cases further than these graduates, just by self-studying every day and researching opportunity.
