What we’re seeing now are gamblers using local operators. Honestly, it would’ve been better if POGOs weren’t banned, since they were catering to non-locals anyway. That way, locals stay protected while the government still earns from tax collections.

When a country is corrupt, things like this can easily happen. Once there’s new leadership, new demands or priorities come in, and suddenly cases that were never touched before start to surface, especially if people don’t cooperate. Taxes are one of the biggest sources of corruption for leaders. If they can’t maximize that, then there’s less money to abuse. You know what I mean,...

Taxes are for everyone for at least 2 century now, so it doesn't matter we have a job or running a business or simply bought the lottery with our last meal money and won the jackpot, we will be taxed, and most of the time the funds will be deducted from the winnings if it's a local casino or the user need to pay the taxes at their financial year's end.

This for real does feel sad to an extent, I believe most people in countries where this taxes are been taken, they would definitely wish it is not and if there is a way to by pass they would want to become some how it is not really clear the rationale behind taxing gambling wins, that cannot be explicitly classified as an earning because it is not a consistent means neither is it something one will consider sustainability from, people most often cannot even associate with it as an occupation, so I do not know why some luck based activity will be taxed mostly when it favours the gambler but never when they suffer a loss.

In my country they tax you from your every win you got from betting, in Nigeria a 5% withholding tax is deducted at source from winnings by betting operators for residents, while a 15% rate applies to non-residents.

Am not sure of the percentage as you have presented them, but i know that the new tax implementation is taking effect on January 2026 and am not also sure if they emphatically stressed it that the gambling section is going to be affected or not, this is why its more better to include reference to some updates we share for proper discussions, government cannot do without taking tax, but on gambling winnings is something not befitting at all in my opinion.

I'm also not too cool with taxing gambling wins because it doesn't look considerate that the player will bear the burden of losses that is even more but whenever he wins, he will still share the money with the government. The only time government ought to collect taxes in gambler is from the casinos who are the most profitable in the business. My government do not tax gambling wins but due to the implementation of a new tax law which I supposed is the same you are referencing too, they might begin to tax gambling wins.
