Topic locked by admin?

One of the threads started by me got locked by admin:

and I'm a bit puzzled as to why it was locked. I didn't get any message and there wasn't any comment in the thread left by admin.

Is there any rule that I'm not aware of that says threads relating to specific events will be locked after a certain time after an event takes place? Or was it a mistake?
I don't see any harm in people having post-event discussions for as long as there's an interest in keeping the conversation going. Otherwise there isn't any suitable place for such discussion.

I've noticed a pattern in the gambling discussion where some topics become too long, too off topic and too spammy to get locked after receiving a bunch of reports. My guess is that the discussion was derailed, some users started posting gibberish and/or too long and was reported, I've seen it happen in megathreads, and especially in gambling discussion. 20 pages isn't massively long, but I haven't gone through the topic to judge if the replies were spam or not.

It was reported, and that's probably the reason. Admins usually don't do this, most likely it was handled by a mod. As for locking the thread, it's odd, i don't usually see that on other topic thread since other similar topics stayed open for weeks even after the event.

If the thread was locked by the moderator, it means it has served its purpose. I noticed that the thread was about boxing matches, maybe the moderator locked the thread as those matches have been concluded; to minimise spam that is prevalent in the gambling board. Thread was made on November 13th and the events were already concluded, so there is no need keeping such threads with 19 pages open.

The thread was locked by moderator not the OP, if you check the padlock click on it and you will see who locked the thread.

It is still the same if I am not mistaken, the only two difference is a topic starter lock and a moderator lock I think the administrator can still take the moderator tag if he was the one who lock the thread as that’s the only two patches done by PowerGlove last year.

The OP question would have been easier answered if the patch had actually included the tool box for moderators to leave their reason. But on this case I strongly feel like the thread was reported to be locked as the fight is over and Moderator might simply be acting on that /those reports. I think if you have extra information regarding that thread another thread explaining more details at this point might be the best way to go.

While the thread may be active, it stands the risk of becoming another mega spam thread in the gambling section. The fight happened on the 20th and the thread has had 7 more pages after that. I doubt anything of substance is going to be said at this point. There’s a similar thread but that one is still open probably because it’s less than 5 pages long.

I don't know if it works for mobile, but i can tell for desktop.

If you are using desktop, open the thread, by the top left corner of the page you will see the padlock click.

Waver your cursor then place it on the padlock, it pops up a message if the thread was locked by a mod or OP.

I think this is also the reason, because I’ve done the same thing before. I reported a thread where I knew the event was already finished, similar to the OP’s case. I reported it as an ended event after several days, since there was no longer any need for discussion and most of the replies were just repetitive. My report was considered good report..

As for the OP, if you already know that the event is finished and you notice that the replies are just repeating the same points, please consider locking your thread.

I think  another reason can be from the fact that this might not have gotten enough report currently.

It's note worthy to say, this doesn’t occur in all mobile browsers. I use more than one mobile browser and it works as explained in one and another doesn't.

It's pretty self-explanatory. The thread served its purpose, the event ended a while back, so there is no need to let the spam continue as some uses keep saying the same thing over and over again. It gets very annoying.

After all, this is not about sports, but about some kind of exhibition that has obviously become popular recently, considering that more and more influencers are challenging professional athletes in order to increase their visibility. Either way, no one will remember this in a few months.

Yeah, I agree with you that someone may have thought that the thread may have already serve it purpose, so he reported it, that why it was locked, another reason why i believe that admin may lock a thread is if similar thread of that nature exist, so he wanted all the discussion concerning that topic to be in a single thread, so he would rather lock one.

Furthermore, all boxing discussion should have been in the same thread, just like in the case of premier league, Spanish laliga, German bundesliga discussion etc, so if all boxing discussion is channeled like that in the same thread, i don't see a valuable reason why the admin will lock the thread or delete it.

Perhaps the admin thought the thread had served its purpose. And to be honest, it had.

The thread is still in its first page, you can’t be too lazy to read the comments before posting. It’s been established that one of the moderators locked the topic not the admin.

I think this topic should be locked by OP unless he’s waiting for an answer from a mod or admin.
