What I've noticed recently is that many people tend to go gambling and some even gamble away their full salary.
It used to be that this extra salary was given to gifts and some was saved.

But now people don't take it into account for their budgeting and instead use the whole of it as if it was a random small windfall.

Well, if that's how they want to spend their bonus then there's nothing wrong with it. I hope though that they're ready with the possible consequences that they might face, but for most of the time, these bonuses doesn't have any allocation for them like they'll be using it to pay bills or what so for them, it's their free money, and for them, the best way to spend it is to gambling. Sad but that's the truth, and the reality right now.

Some especially those who are good at handling money are allocating their bonuses into something important like maybe savings, or just investing it into different assets out there. At the end of the day, we can't blame them on how they want to spend their money. Maybe for them, it's their way of rewarding themselves after working for one whole year under a company. As for me, I don't have any experiences like the one you shared, but I've seen people who spent their bonuses into something that they don't really need.

It just so happens that I used to spend the bonuses I received on gambling. Every month, there is a performance evaluation, and employees with good performance will receive a bonus. It's not as much as a salary, but it's enough to have some fun with gambling. 
Now, I prefer to gamble with my regular budget, and the bonuses can be used for vacation plans or other needs. 
But I guess it's not a problem for those who spend the bonuses they receive on gambling. What matters is that they don't have other plans to use it, like for a vacation or buying certain items.

It’s true that my company gives employees a Christmas bonus. However, I haven’t found anyone close to me who gambles using that bonus. There is, though, someone from another department who does. How do I know? Because the rumor is very well known. It’s not only his Christmas bonus he also spends his yearly bonus on gambling. He’s even known for borrowing money from other workers and getting into debt. I don’t know how he thinks or if he’s seriously addicted, but somehow he keeps doing it again and again.

Tons of people doing this even the bonus came from the company havent arrived yet they are already decided where do they spent their money which is playing gambling which is I do not recommend we know that the Christmas or even the month of December is one of the peak season where do we spent a lot because its the Christmas day and at the same time shifting of the new years eve coming, so now if you made already the budget if there's some extra its okay to play with your bonus now if you are using all of those amount for the gambling I do not recommend because this is the spent season also its the extra money youve got when in working for a whole year so imagine you spent that in a single day or week through out your hard work, its an equivalent of your time and effort spent. Well just my side because its your choice if you want to use your bonuses but i do recommend use it wisely.

Well I don’t know where you live but it seem like it’s in a place filled with gambling activities like the Las Vegas area. People seem to gamble away there extra money knowing that it will not affect them and it’s just an extra I believe that why it has become random is that they somehow during the festive season try to double it if they can spend extremely large during the holidays and also knowing that yes the amount is so small that it can be lost without too much being thought of.

I think he is in a country same with me, we have 12 months salary, +1 as 13th pay bonus and a christmas bonus or 14th month.

I think this is not for all or only for a very few people. Some human wants to make their bonus as bigger as they can in an easy way. but most of them ended in a bad way.

That’s nothing new. Just think of their salary, they are even gambling all of it, so what more if it’s just a bonus? They wouldn’t mind spending it all since they got it as a bonus. Only addicted gamblers do that. Those are the people who don’t gamble responsibly anymore because they don’t have limits. They should have at least saved half of it if they were still in control of their emotions. Anyway, it’s their choice and their money. As long as it doesn’t affect me, I don’t mind them doing it.

In my country, there are also bonus payments for the New Year, and as the OP mentioned, they are often seen as money to spend on fun, buy gifts for loved ones, or do whatever you like, as it's considered easy money. My friends, those who work for such organizations, use these payments in exactly this way. Nowadays, there are many casino sites where we have the opportunity to multiply our money or simply spend it lavishly. Everyone hopes for a New Year's miracle; sometimes people need a festive mood to relax and take a break from the hustle and bustle of life throughout the year.

As friends we learn from each other but also we have learned from gambling as we know that if you gamble, you can most likely lose the money. I do not know of a friend that lost his salary or Christmas bonus to gambling and neither me lost money that way. All I know is that I spend more during this Christmas to the extent that my gambling activity reduced.

Christmas bonus is something that happens once a year, it doesn't happen twice you are not supposed to any of them for gambling because of the risk involved. To be honest this is totally irresponsible because it is only someone that is addicted to gambling that would use money meant family for gambling knowing fully well that the company give you the bonus as an appreciation for working with them for a complete year without any injuries, this is the worst decision that a gambler would ever thought of.

Where I come from, this doesn't happen. we're only paid 12 months salary. You guys must be very lucky to have up to 14. We have similar things here where people gamble away almost all their December salary which is paid on time to facilitate a smoother holiday, January always deals very well with such people.

It is the height of irresponsibility to gamble away your Christmas bonus. It has surely defeated the purpose of the bonus, you are making your family members miss out on their dream holiday because of your excessive gambling.

Most times men finish their bonuses even before they get back home after receiving such bonuses as most of them go straight from workplace to physical casino environment. Men who know they are that weak-willed should send the bonuses to their wives immediately it is received to ensure it serves its full purpose.

People often spend money that they see as easy money very unwisely, they will spend it on unnecessary things, I'm not saying that gambling is an unnecessary things but it is something that should be engaged in with small amounts considering that loses are often more than winnings. Gambling should be enjoyed responsibly with planned bankroll not to engage in it with every free money that enters your hands because you can lose everything. When you get free money you can decide to use a few percentage of it to augment your gambling bankroll not to use all or almost all of it on gambling.

Nobody gets a 13th and 14th salary in my country. Some employees do get a Christmas bonus, but I totally don't care how they spend that bonus. I'm self-employed, so I don't have any colleagues. Even if I had any colleagues, I still wouldn't care how they spend their bonuses. Online gambling became very popular in the last few years and there's no surprise for me that many people gamble away money, that weren't hard earned. If they had to put some extra work in order to deserve a 13th salary, they would've never wasted that money so easily.

Would you work for free an entire month of your life? I guess no one could answer YES. If someone has this issue... of course has a serious gambling addiction.
Excluding few events like in UK most of western sport is stucked right now. Different if you plan to invest this amount in 1 year of gambling.
It could be an idea... but, people that doesn't win really often (or don't want to be happy from gambling thats better don't play at all

I dispise this gambling method, as if their job is too easy for them to do, because if you think about how much stress you put into working a job you will never feel convenient wasting it all away, what a strange world we live in.

I don't have people who behaves like this around me, those who did are already suffering from similar mistakes they did in gambling some years ago, they learned a very hard life lesson and they don't tend to ever become a gambler again,  even in investments you don't go all in with every money you made, it's a stupid and foolish behaviour.

It is pure financial recklessness to gamble off such an amount because it is a gift or extra income. I am also expecting my 13th-month salary, which might come next week. There are already financial plans on the ground on how I intend to use the money and gambling is not included. When people don't have responsibility, they tend to misuse funds like this. While others see it as a privilege to settle their bills. I know people who have gambled with all their salary but I don't know if anyone has plans to use the extra salary for gambling.

I had a colleague who does that always, and it's not just about christmas he do that all day and whenever he get extra money then he will go and buy lottery tickets for it and he won many times but if we calculate the total money spent on tickets with how much he won then it will be a net loss for him.

But not everyone does that, some people get the new clothes or use it to present gift for their familyies and some use it to buy some assets towards their investment and so on.

Thirteen months salary is mostly given during the festive period like this as we mark the end of the calendar year, it's left for every beneficiary to determine on what to use the money they earned and the bonus given on top, but it will be unwise of them spending everything they are being giving on gambling at the event of celebration, if I were privileged to have the same opportunity, I may only gamble with the one extra salary added to it and never touched the remaining for gambling, because there are other things that requires money during the Christmas period.

The most surprising thing is just the opposite. Over the last couple of years, I haven't seen my colleagues spending money on gambling at the end of the year. We are now at an age when almost everyone has a family, and most of our spending goes on them, with Christmas bonuses spent on gifts for loved ones or purchases for the home. When we were younger, bonuses were spent on entertainment, but now everything has changed.

I have seen someone who made such mistakes since the money was an extra pay , he thought using it for gambling won't be an issue. This how most gambler do spend there extra cash since they can easily afford to lose it , without it affecting them in any way. Gambler should always set a limit in terms of how much they can used in gambling a day. If they can make it part of there gambling routine and sticking to it no matter the extra cash they received, it won't be wasted on gambling.

I no longer work with any company at the moment but some years back when I still do, I used to have a friend who was addicted to gambling, aside the December salary, this dude always gamble away all his monthly salary in just a few days after receiving it, and will then have to depend on loans and working overtime to sustain himself until the next salary.
I tried all I could to talk him out of that habit but he was completely unable to quit.

The only luck he usually have during Christmas and new year season is that instead of the company to give a bonus in monatery form, the MD buys food stuffs like bag or rice, gallon of oil, Crate of eggs and several other items and share this to all workers respectively, this is how he manages to have what to eat during this festive season, if the company was to pay this bonus in money, he would still gamble it all away.
