Actually no. I have not noticed something like that ever happening with people I have worked with, the majority of them just have very normal christmas expenses which are completely unrelated to gambling or betting. Also, because money is a sensitive topic here in my country, people usually do not share what they do with their christmas bonus or how much they have received from their employers.
However, having most of the workforce of a country to gamble away their bonuses makes complete sense in countries where gambling has become a societal phenomenon and pretty much the whole population has become part of that business, either as their job or as their entertainment.

yeah I’ve seen similar things happen & it’s honestly a bit worrying here in the Philippines we also have the 13th month pay & for a lot of people it’s something they already expect not really a bonus anymore because of that mindset some don’t plan for it properly instead of using it for savings, debts/family needs, they treat it like instant extra cash. Gambling has definitely become more visible & accessible too especially online. It’s easy for people to think I’ll just try a little then suddenly a big part/all of the bonus is gone, I’ve heard stories from colleagues who regretted it badly after especially once January bills start coming in.

I don't know anyone who has used their Christmas bonus for gambling, but I see a couple of people who might, but not really sure how they used it. It's really something that shouldn't be done if you need it, but if you don't, then it's up to you. They should be able to understand that it's the gambler's fault.

They should be responsible for how they are doing with gambling. Limitations would be key as well.

Whether they gamble their money or not is up to them.  It is not my business to prevent them from doing so.  Wouldn't the money also be spent on gifts and other stuff since it was a holiday?  Why not let them enjoy their money for themselves?  After all, they are the ones who work hard for it, and we don't have any say on whatever they want to do with their money.

Let us just mind our own business and do what we believe is for the betterment of ourselves.  Let us not meddle with other people's business unless they ask for our opinion.  This way, we won't be offending anyone who does not welcome unsolicited advice or comment.

About the experience, I know people who spend their wages on a gambling site to the point that they don't have anything to buy food.  They look pitiful, but it is their business since they never asked me for any advice, but to borrow money lol.

Here in my country, the government only pays 13 salaries, and unfortunately, since last year, there have been reported cases of suicide involving government employees. The reasons for the suicides are shocking; they are always cases where the government employee took out a loan and invested it in the Aviator lottery and lost everything. Other cases involve public employees who lost their entire salary gambling. Fortunately, this December there haven't been any cases of suicide involving public employees who lost everything gambling.

This is exactly why it's important to check on every pattern that you develop, to avoid unknowingly doing things that will cost you a lot. Why should anyone gamble away their salaries and bonuses? If it's a habit, you're about to be broke for life. What about friends and families? How do you entertain your visitors for the Christmas if all you do is spend everything in gambling?

There's always this one person in a group of people, either in a social group or at work, that feels so entitled to the money that's paid from casinos to winners every week.

For few days now I have not near the gambling site due to the period we are and I have lot of things to pay attention than gambling, gambling is like a secondary need for me why I would have to face much things that are much need and required at home, and of course I know that it could hard for me to remain focused due to other activities and visitors visiting home, this led me not to even come close to gambling from last few days, but I believe after 31 I wouldn't mind resuming again to gambling.

It means he his not a responsible gambler, having extra cash as bonus does not mean all should be spent on gambling, you can increase your budget on gambling not to spend all on gambling, have reservations for your additional expenses.

Christmas bonus is a gift, what if the bonus does not come in cash but in items for the celebration will you sell them off to use the money for gambling, that money is supposed to be used for the festive season wisely

Ultimately, people are free to do whatever they want with their money. It's theirs as they've earned it. But then, it's sad that some people would choose to go gambling with it and in most cases, lose most of it. Perhaps, the fact that they get paid their regular pay and then get paid a bonus, could get exhilaratin, making one to spend rather extravagantly. Having got paid a Christmas bonus and being a festive season as well, people might momentarily forget their important bills and expenses that would need to be sorted out.
Like it was hinted in the OP, budgeting would greatly help in managing your income and whatever bonus you get. With a budget, you can always put aside some money for whatever pleasurable activity you find fun or exciting.

I had quite opposite experience actually. But maybe it's because all my friends have families and then Christmas can take a big slice out of your salary. People who are single and without kids probably do it more. And there's nothing wrong with that. It's basically free money and you probably aren't cutting budget from other essential expenses, as that's all extra money.

I don't think it's smart, or something i would do, but who am i to tell people how they should use their own money.

If it was me, I would have been in debt before the bonus having over anticipated receiving the money in advance.  Perhaps these people are incredibly well disciplined most of the time and have no bills waiting or debt to swallow up such a bonus.
 All the same it seems best to split up any gains, never spend it all at once or all in one place; live life with less regrets and more variety that way

Gambling is currently very popular and experiencing rapid growth. This is because it has become much easier to access online. This contrasts with the days before online gambling became popular, when people had to travel long distances to land based casinos, which made them reluctant to visit casinos and preferred to save their money.

I had a similar experience, but even worse. My friend found out he was guaranteed a double salary this christmas. But before his salary was paid, he took out a loan to gamble, hoping to repay the loan from his christmas bonus. He didn't even know the amount of the bonus, but he was willing to take the risk so early. It was insane.

Well I don’t know where you live but it seem like it’s in a place filled with gambling activities like the Las Vegas area. People seem to gamble away there extra money knowing that it will not affect them and it’s just an extra I believe that why it has become random is that they somehow during the festive season try to double it if they can spend extremely large during the holidays and also knowing that yes the amount is so small that it can be lost without too much being thought of.

Still, regardless of the location, gambling away all the christmas bonus is an act of irresponsibility. I get it that some people treat their christmas bonus as extra money, but hey, you can buy a lot of it and gift your loved ones, but trying to gamble all of them for the sake of greed and irresponsible gambling, that will only lead to a negative outcome. Gambling is never bad, but if you gamble a valuable amount, gambling will never be good at all. Its supposed to entertain you, not to harm you financially and emotionally.

Of course it’s a merely entertainment but not regarded as entertainment for many , it’s a money doubling scheme that can be used to as ease but however you understand that not everyone will value things or want to make things for the satisfaction of family, you might think because one gambles away their bonus they have no support for family, I could have provided for family already and have enough left over yet the extra for gambling so it’s not bad yet except one goes beyond the normal which is touch amount that one can’t lose.

The money you have to spare so to speak is an initial law that helps to save the wealth against the loss caused by emotional judgments at the game table. You show maturity by taking out force of periodic income and operating funds on high risk personal fun. The financial stability of the family is not going to be jeopardised as long as the ground between these two kinds of money is well sealed off. Keeping a regular budget is important so that our future is not compromised.

I dont know anyone personally that is doing this but then again there is always the chance that I do know someone who is doing it but I dont know that they are a gambler or gambling their bonus away simply because they are doing it in secret

Some people will see the Christmas promotions offered by casinos as an opportunity. Whether they are addicted or not, taking advantage of Christmas bonuses to gamble is a popular choice for many. There's nothing wrong with that, as some people are indeed excited about bonuses, but the terms and conditions may differ.

But like you, I don't know anyone who uses Christmas bonuses. I don't think anyone in my community spends Christmas bonuses at all.
I agree with what you said setting limits is key to gambling. Responsible gambling is also important. Some people lose control when they lose control.

No, because I associate with people who either don't gamble or gamble responsibly. Taking the double pay you get this month and spending the extra money indicates problematic gambling behavior and poor financial literacy. I suppose the people you know must have a dumb look on their faces when, in most cases, they lose this month's bonus.

No of my friend or even colleagues will showcase such foolishness or stupidity in my watch offcurses I will not take it, though no Christmas bonus of such was given out but a little package was given out to someone prominent staff.

However throwing away your benefits into gambling all in the sake of it was just bonus doesn't make no sense to me because in as much as you might be thinking is just a bonus but in the real sense it is your hard earned money because you work for it, so gambling with it recklessly make you an inresponsible person and also show how unserious you are.

No I don't have such issues,but what I observed during this Christmas time I was given a bonus by one bet company that I operate within I use the bonus for more stake but I lost it all , sometimes people plan it very well to make sure that the little bonus should come out with lots of surprises and a lot of money but to me I have lost my so this is the only bonus I have gamble away not the one that was given to me as Christmas gift.

I don’t have friends like that. I think it’s stupid to lose a bonus or prize money on gambling. I’d rather buy some Christmas gifts for my relatives.
Although a long time ago I had a friend who, every time he got his salary, went straight to place sports bets. Sometimes he won big money, but in the end he always lost it all back on betting. Gambling addiction is a disease.
