There's no harm in coming and consulting an expert/doctor about the psychology of gambling that we do today, what's more, it's free, I think if it's free it's even better, because we can find out the level of risk we have been gambling with so far, whether we are in the group of responsible gamblers or heavy gamblers.

If I have time on my hand then there is no harm in trying, i will take the consultation and just talk to him, you never know maybe you actually need it, gambling can get addictive very quickly and while you are telling yourself that you are not addicted to it it could always be that you are living in denial so for your own sake you should just go or at least I would go, it's not going to cost me anything.

I would take the consultation, not because I believe I have a problem, but because an external and professional perspective will cost nothing and plus it can add more clarity. Being 'fine' does not necessarily mean there is no room to validate habits, boundaries, or blind spots before they become issues. You declining simply because things seem under control assumes self-assessment is always accurate.

I know of some organizations in my country that require applicants to undergo a pre-employment interview with a psychologist. The interview includes questions about various addictions, as the type of work the person is being hired for has financial implications, and employers need to be confident that the person won't spend the organization's money on various hobbies. I don't understand why this close friend would invite me to the clinic. After all, he's my close friend, which means he's always in touch with me and already knows my habits and any symptoms of addiction, if any. So, it seems likely he's not such a close friend if he wants to invite me to the clinic. Apparently, he wants to treat my consultation as a full-fledged service, and obviously, I'd have to pay for it. But why?
After such an invitation, I'd be wary and decide I need to reconsider my relationship with this friend. After all, it's been said that I'm not losing sleep or money, which means everything is fine with the gambling.

If you are actually gambling responsibly and you know it I don't see a reason to get another person's assessment to further convince yourself that you are gambling responsibly or otherwise. What if the consultant gives you some medical terms that your brain or emotion has some gambling malfunction then you would begin to worry and book for further consultations. I don't dive into something because it is free, I do it because I have to and if by all assessment I know that I don't have a gambling problem I will decline the free gambling therapy. Gambling addiction is not a terminal ailment or something that you won't see it's manifestation when it starts, if you're addicted to gambling sooner or later you would know except you are not being sincere to yourself.

I see two people so far who voted no in the poll, so let me give an analogy for them. If your friend doctor notices symptoms of you having a disease but you feel fine, and he offers you a free check-up, will you take it or not? I think it would be dumb not to take it for sure. You might think there's no problem, but we usually don't notice changes in ourselves, so if a doctor sees something, then it would be wise to follow their expert advice.

Obviously I would take the free consultation session, because all I would be offering is my time right? And it would be of good to me as well as I could learn more about gambling addiction, just maybe I could be practicing it but lying to myself.

In my case, I gamble in moderation, with planning and responsibly. I only gamble with amounts of money that I can afford to lose. But I would accept going for a consultation because that would clear up any doubts about my real mental state regarding gambling. A hospital is not a place to be afraid of; it's a place we have to go to take care of our health, and if they offer us a free consultation, then we shouldn't refuse that kindness. Despite being okay, there is no overdose in checking yourself up medically. I may refuse to be injected though to avoid springing up health problem for me.  So I may not reject his free medical attention for me as he has his own ideas of the signs of addiction he saw because he is a doctor and has done his analysis that medically I might not have seen it. An addicted person in his eyes is always alright, so to avoid missing the opportunity I may not reject his free medicare.

If he thinks so, no problem I will visit his clinic for the consultation, probably there's something that he saw in me before he asked me to come, even if I'm sure that I'm not compulsive, I will allow him tell me what I'm doing wrong, then I will also reflect on it if he's right or not. Seems the doctor is trying to help and if he say he will assess your friend then why not? Maybe he would know those things that he's not aware of. So even if he says he's fine still people have this denial thoughts and even if they are in messy situation these people will continue to say that they still in control with their gambling activity.

So if that doctor offer's me that I will grab that offer of free consultation since its healthy evaluation that you are still doing good on the risky activity you are participated. That one is not actually waste of them and for sure he could get valuable assessment since as what you have said the person offering that service is professional.

I will not let my ego overcome me so I'll say yes, after all he's the expert here and addicted gamblers were really not aware that they are already addicted unless it's too late. If he's your friend and he's offering it for free, he's genuinely concern about you and you should gladly take that consultation. If I were given a chance like that I'll never say no to anything free, even though you know in yourself that you are not addicted it's still good to take a look at other people's perspective especially that this one is not just another person but rather a doctor which expertise were in gambling related.

I think that most doctors have this kind of free consultation for every patient that they can have. It adds up to their experience and at the same time, they're helping people who are actually in need like if they've found someone who's very addicted. They can clinically evaluate that person is a drug addict. I'll take the consultation and I think it's just all about some talking and answering questions that's from them. I wouldn't decline that. They're helping freely and so we're also getting help freely. Even I am not a gambling addict, there's no harm in accepting it.

If gambling is not currently affecting activities and finances, then there is nothing to consult. Isn't consultation a means of conveying problems or complaints and aiming to find solutions?
