Those who gamble consistently are not necessarily addicted. Being consistent over a certain period of time does not mean engaging in high-intensity activity. But let's say a gambler gambles every day, but with small bets that are within their means. I would not say that person is addicted just because they gamble every day. 
But when a gambler treats gambling like a job, where the intensity of betting also increases, and there is also pressure to win, the gambler's situation may be different. The gambler might risk more than they can afford in pursuit of a win.

It can happen to anyone, because nobody is immune.

I don't think this is entirely correct, because not every gambler becomes addicted, and I assume that different people will have completely different levels of resistance to this disease.

Addiction comes By repeating the same 100 time's, and still finding your way to keep repeating it, such as this thread yahoo62278 got the right title for this thread. Sometimes I still can't imagine what else most members here have to talk about the topic of addictions that have not been said countless times before creating repeated comments on same topic just to meet up with requirements make no sense.

Another curious fact is that many of those discussing this topic have likely never experienced gambling addiction, and their statements are purely speculative. How many people know anyone who has experienced real gambling addiction? Or have conducted scientific research related to this topic?

I think it's more about the environment, like your friends,family etc. If you have a family that have normalize somehow gambling like your mother or father is already addicted to gambling you might somehow get that since that is mostly what you are seeing on your parents, I've seen a lot of this in my country. Peer pressure for sure having a bad influence friends is surely going to affect you a lot, if they are the one that you are surrounded with  you are surely going to adopt there habits as well if gambling was involved you are going to get that for sure. Thats probably where dugs and alcohol could also be related since you are getting influence by someone your not going to just wanna do gambling because you wanted it you are getting influence with drugs and alcohol involved as well you are getting pressure and making the wrong decisions.

Having a lot of tools today is a thing as well since it is just way easier to gamble these days compared in the past where there are a lot of restriction like age, you probably not gonna be allowed in a casino if your not in a right age, but today online gamblings just on your smarthphone you could gamble anytime you want, I mean here in my country even on digital banks platform there are gambling games where you could play for real and win.

Imagine the people who have thought "gambling as a source of income", and they are not able to do it. That's going to be catastrophic for the person, knowing that it could be their last money. If you cannot live properly and you always put your money in gambling, that's an addict. If you are still responsible, still manage to play from time to time, and are consistent in your income, then it's work.

For gambling addiction, there are signs that a person could have, and see if someone is addicted. You can check different sources like psychological papers etc.

I think people become addicted to gambling after they win a big amount of money. I had a friend who once hit a $200 ( 1999 year )  jackpot on slot machines — not online, but in a real gambling hall. After that, he changed and started spending all his time in slot machine halls. He lost all his money and ended up owing everyone — neighbors, friends, and relatives. He even started stealing things from home to sell them and gamble. In the end, his father kicked him out of the house.

We are all addicts... we get easily addicted when we fall in love with something. In most cases, at first we see the beauty, excitement, relief & rewards. And then you start spending more of yourself and what you have on that. Simply said, the more you love, the more you are bound... and the other side will eventually show as well. But when the other side shows up, you have already spent a lot... maybe you are even in debt, and what are you going to do now? Crying and blaming addiction because you were blind?

Don't complicate it... understand it, and control it. Be responsible, and you will not have problems. Good luck.

To answer on op, then there's the primary reasons.

1. Greed
2. Trying out to get back on what you have lost
3. Become rich
4. Impulsive emotions
5. Trying to prove something that strategy works
6. Boasting up that you are a good gambler
.....

This is one of the most common reasons or all of the things involved on why a certain gambler becomes addicted towards gambling. Once you've been shackled with gambling addiction then it would be that so hard for you to get out, you would be able to make out realizations when everything has already been devastated. Its important that you do really know on how to limit yourself when it comes on doing gambling. Gambling is just that really for fun and entertainment and never ever make yourself thinking up that you can beat up the house because this will be the starting on busting up yourself and made out those regrets because of some financial difficulties.

And when that happens he could be ruled as a compulsive player, which is not always true for everyone who has within their mind concluded to take gaming as their job. Although it's very wrong to do so, or harness same thought, but what should be known is that some people (a small number of luck players) still find a means to escape this challenge, through certain factors like regaining consciousness and saying no, the others in similar categories who get caught up with compulsion were only inattentive, in nutshell, not all gamers who didn't stay responsible ended addicted in the long run - some had to control to quit.

It usually starts small, i pretty guess, like just messing around, Then there’s a win or almost a win, that feeling sticks.
The brain kind of ignores the losses, gambling feels like a quick escape from problems.
Losing money doesnt scare people off. But sad truth it pulls them back to win back their losses,
and somehow, it turns into a habit and thats where starts the addiction.

Environment matters a lot too. if someone grows up around gambling family members betting, constant ads in social media, games and apps on their phone. even exciting, because its everywhere, feels less risky and easier to slide into.

I think someone who's trying to shy away with some responsibilities at home shouldn't gamble. If they're pushing the responsibilities they have for themselves, that's not a good example of them being a gambler. And so, those who have been gambling for the source of income, they can be addicted to it because that's what they'll do on a daily basis. Addiction starts from the mindset in most of the cases. If you are in gambling as your main source of income, you will likely be addicted because you will be desperate to win and that is where the addiction starts from, the desperation to win at all cost with risk management discarded. You might think that those who have money yet get addicted to gambling may not experience this, that is not correct because the story is always the same for everyone. Those that have money yet gambling do it to get more money and end up becoming addicted to gambling through desperation.

$200 is even still a small amount of money, have you not read or heard of people that won huge amount of money like over $1 million but they were unable to increase the money with business but continue to gamble and lost all the money and they become broke? This is very common in lotteries, gambling and betting.

But it is good to know that a gambler can start to lose money and still be addicted. Winning or losing is not what that cause gambling addiction, it is how the brain process it in a way addicts think that someone can make money from gambling.

For most people they get addicted to gambling when they start chasing their losses, there is a lot of risks that comes with doing this and most gamblers fall deep into chasing their losses to recover what they have lost but only makes them more addicted. another way most gamblers get addicted is when they chase profits even after winning, the need to chase continually makes gamblers dependant on gambling

For you, @OP, you may have a strong resolve and not be the type to easily get sucked in and addicted to gambling, but there are others who can get addicted at the slightest exposure.

It's combination of both, you want to win big and so you go back again and again and trying to hit that windfall. So it's going to be consistent on your side and then it become a cycle. You play regularly and you see that you are being entertain and not thinking of how much money you lose.

But then it get worse, you don't have control anymore of your mind and all you want is to play and maybe regret the priorities in your life like putting food in the table and taking care of your money. And as it get worst, then you might go to borrow money from other people and bank to just fuel your addiction until you get rekt.

When people project their problems onto gambling, they become addicted over time. For example, a person has a debt of one million US dollars. This person panics and starts gambling, thinking that this way they will win a lot of money and pay off their debts. But this person loses at gambling; they won't give up, they will believe that next time they will be lucky enough to win, and they will do this until they become addicted.
