I'm not an expert but I think that in most cases the cause for an addiction could come from the second example. I'm sure that there are some people who intend to achieve a source of income via gambling, although it is obvious that it is neither a reasonable nor an intelligent strategy, but there is people of all kinds.

The second one, gambling to abstract from everyday problems, is much more common, in my opinion, and for that simple reason, would statistically be the main reason why ones becomes addicted, just like so many other things that ease the daily burden.

People get addicted to gambling easily because it is something that plays with the mind straight up and at first it usually starts small and feels harmless and after winning for some few times, you gradually becomes exciting and you also start building false confidence and your brain starts to chase that same feeling again and agsin without even noticing then over some times, losses begin to come in and your emotions will start to take over and instead of you to think of stopping, you keep betting to recover what you have lost and before you know it your level of control has dropped or gone completely which is what bring people into addictions.

I strongly believe option one is the main reason why people easily get addicted to gambling.  I am not just talking because of what I feel, but I'm talking from experience from the people around me that suffering or have suffered from gambling addiction. They took gambling as their source of income so in the bid of always gambling so they can provide money for their family or have more money in their accounts, they go all in and gamble as hard as they can that was how their problem started.

Treating gaming as a source of income is one of the fastest way you can fall into addiction without you even knowing because based on what I have seen around me, once someone starts depending on gambling games they are playing to be able to provide for their family or grow their accounts, then be rest assure they you are going to be pressurized and can fall into the victim of addiction.

It is very influential to make gambling as a source of income and the effects of regular gambling both play a great role in making one an easy target to gambling. However, according to me, turning gambling into a source of income is a sure way of speeding up the onset of addiction. Gambling addiction isnt caused by maybe gamblers treating gambling as a source of income, addiction to gambling is cause by irresponsible gambling.

Even casinos often have that warning sign at the bottom of their website telling gamblers to gamble responsibly and that gambling is not for those under the age of 18 years old, but unfortunately, many gamblers do their gambling irresponsibly, this is where addiction comes from.
Understand that irresponsible gambling can mean gambling too much and not minding or adhering to limits, gambling without control, chasing and desperately trying to get back what you have lost are all part of irresponsible gambling that can lead to gambling addiction.

You seems to sound like someone who is addicted and trying to justify something in your head lol, sometimes your first option or suggestion is correct but sometimes it is not, because taking gambling as a source of income is simply putting all energy in anything that has to do with gambling or betting and by so doing you will go extra mile or extreme to look for a way to gamble and before you realize what you are doing you will be already fucked up in such a way that you can not stay a day without trying to gamble more like a drug addict, a drug addict can not stay a day without drug because they will be so disturbed, body itching and the rest. I don’t understand why recently there have been so many topics discussing or repeating about gambling addiction. Is it hard for us to distinguish whether a gambler is addicted or not? If you are a gambler, you should know the category where a gambler is considered addicted. This can be related to the time spent or the amount of money spent. Every gambler should calculate their finances first and see a reasonable amount to wager, not use their entire salary for betting.

They are looking for a big fortune from gambling and being able to pay whatever they want, often gambling shows big winnings and or influencers show that they have managed to take a big win from gambling which motivates fools to do it too, they risk their money endlessly and indefinitely to find that fortune, the term is I'm looking for a once in a lifetime fortune so that I can enjoy life, that's a big reason why the addiction increases as time goes by someone gambling, they are trapped in their own mind.

In my opinion, the biggest reason behind addiction is desire or thinking about making money. And most of the people who are under financial pressure gamble to relieve their fatigue or to get away from the stress of real life, thinking that they can temporarily get away from the stress and earn some money. Both reasons are valid for anyone to fall into gambling addiction. If I had to guess, the bulk of people suffering from gambling addiction are trying to cope with problems which they do not know how to deal with in the first place, so they decide to numb their senses and ignore their problems with long sessions on casinos and bookies.
Someone who tried to make a living off gambling would quickly realize it is not possible because of the edge of the house, so they are left with two options: continue to lose money to the house or quit trying to get money from gambling and find other reliable sources of income.

I have a friend who is seriously addicted to gambling, and the addiction didn’t start because he saw gambling as a source of income, but more as an emotional outlet.

My friend has a stable life and earns a higher salary than most people in my area. It started as gambling just for fun, but playing consistently made him realize that his money kept disappearing. Eventually, he developed the mindset that the money he lost had to be won back. In the end, without realizing it, he became addicted.

A wrong mindset can also have a harmful impact on gamblers and eventually lead them into addiction.

There are many reasons for gambling addiction like unemployment, seeking for quick money and believing that gambling will give you that money you desire, some times peer pressure could influence someone to gamble just like others are doing , and it could also be too much love for sports for those that only bet with sports betting. You already know them, you're seeking its validation here. Addiction comes when you are only determined to grab wins from the casino without watching what it is taking from you. If you are on a loose rope in gambling without some sort of discipline, budget and timing, it would be very easy for you to get addicted.
