From my own understanding I think gambling addicted occurs when he/she keeps pushing the winning by the time they’re losing. There are many people in my opinion who do gambling thinking that gambling is one of the shortcuts to get money, but it's not like that because what happens is like what you said they don't get more money but instead lose money and even get into debt and experience other problems.
