I strongly disagree betting can't be a show of passion whereas the reverse is the case such that sports has been the show of passion. It's always due to the love and passion one has nursed over sports that has solidify the reasons why they choose to gamble. There are football fans who opt for buying their official uniform and also the official balloon of the team, and all kind of products which are sold by the company behind the team/club.

For some people making profit is the major reason why they bet because not everyone is a lover of sports, I feel that 70% of bettors are in it for the profits and not for Passion. So I would say that for some people it is the passion and for most people it is for the money and that path is what makes people addicted and some of these gamblers don't even have a favorite club and they don't watch the game but only use money to bet on who wins, I enjoy watching sports especially football and I have a favorite club and I bet for the love of football and some I analyze well to make money from what I love but that doesn't mean I bet for the money but for the passion and if I win along the line then it's my luck.

Based on my own understanding, I feel that there are times I only gamble to pass the time or to briefly forget the problems I'm going through.

That is not passion, compulsion is a close definition of the word passion, when something is barely controllable by a person, the example gamer he described doesn't appear to be passionate about gaming, he only has the simple drive of wagering certain amount on a specific team.
