I think the first effect of addiction, whether drug, gambling or any other type of addiction is psychological. Yes, the addiction first of all alters your way of thinking from the inside before it starts manifesting in the outside through your decisions. What's so good about a gambler, just like a drug addict with a severe addiction, losing absolutely everything they have? I certainly haven't sunk that far, but I've had a similar experience. A friend of mine lost two apartments and a car playing slots. He just couldn't accept that his luck was running out and that any minute now, it was about to change. But it didn't. It's incredibly scary. I wouldn't wish that level of moral decay on anyone.

So you think it's easier to control yourself in gambling than with drugs or alcohol? I think if a person can control themselves in gambling, they can do the same with alcohol (I'm not sure about drugs, as I consider them more complex substances). Besides self control, there's responsibility and it's responsibility that should stop if you get addicted. Some gamblers don't want to stop, even if they've lost too much, but if they're responsible for other people, they'll stop.

yes drug addiction is the worst form of addiction and it gives room to other form of addiction. Someone who is addicted to drug can easily be addicted to other things like gambling, sex etc. however an addicted gambler may not be addicted to drug or other harmful things.

Gambling addiction shouldn't even be mentioned close to drug and alcohol addiction.  Im not trying to justify Gambling though but here are my reasons; Gambling has a psychological effect on a person.  This psychological effect has allot of ways to bring down a person and this cannot be disputed.  But coming to drugs and  alcohol it has much more heavy consequences and effects. They have severe effects on your health. Damages your vital organs and ends your life faster than you can ever imagine.

It's addiction itself which is not normal things is no longer in-balance no need to compare especially if you are already deeply involve the level of your addiction is fully engage, even only one of those two can ruined an entire life of a person and not just the person it can be extend to those who loves and care about the addicted individual, it needs serious care and extended patience as there's always a sign of denial if the addicted person is not willing to submit and unwilling to accept whatever addiction that he's into.

That is just the best way to define it, you might argue that alcohol addiction is not that bad compare to other kinds of addiction but the reason why you said so is probably because you have not see worse cases of an alcoholic,  you have only witnessed minor cases and not the bad situations where someone will get drunk, then will still want to drive their car back home and if they are not presented, they will just face some life threatening accident. No addiction is good, they also have worse cases.

There are the lightest kinds, like marijuana, and let’s not forget that there is even medical marijuana, which is prescribed by doctors, and in some countries it remains legal. So I think that when it comes to drugs, responsible use might also be possible. Although, on the other hand, if marijuana is legal in some country, then maybe it is no longer considered a drug. From that point of view, I agree that there are definitely no completely safe drugs. As for gambling, it can be done responsibly if you treat it as entertainment and spend only a small amount of money.
