‎I just saw this post on social media where a supposed young man is on life support and still has the time and efforntry to go online and place bets despite his health concerns.
‎I don't know if this is the height of gambling addiction but what can you call it in your opinion?

I can't say if this is addiction or not because the his health condition might not be serious. However, when you cannot stay away from gambling no matter the circumstances playing around you at that moment. It means that you're already an addict. Why didn't he just relax and leave the hospital before gambling.

People don't know the right time to gamble because they're always thinking of making profits all the time and that's why they gamble anywhere. You should only gamble in a good state of mind during your leisure hours.

First of all, the workers at the hospital are to be blamed for this because they know someone on life support needs a lot of rest but they still allowed him to hold his mobile phone which was supposed to be taken and kept safely for his own good. Well, anything that keeps him happy. some critical conditions requires a little bit of fun and relaxation to ease the condition.

Who shot this picture deserves some awards, although this is social media era and alot of interpretations could be given to this image, but from what we can see, the man look stable and calm, which means he is responding to treatment.
But another silent question is, what kept him in that condition, betting could be the reason too, so despite being stable if he continues with such activities, he will slide back to his condition again when taken off oxygen.

If we should discuss about the image on your post, we can not make the conclusion yet that he is gambling. The image is not clear, but it is like a video. You can put the link of the video on this forum for us to verify that it is true that the person is checking a betting site.

If he is checking betting site, that does not mean he is addicted to gambling. He checked betting site because he still have the power to. Maybe he is gaining back his strength already.

I don't see any problems in a person on medical support to be betting meanwhile. To be on medical support can be quite boring, as you have nothing to do all day long. Maybe he is just trying to kill some time and to entertain himself meanwhile. He has just to be careful to not let emotions go wild, otherwise, it may be prejudicing for his medical treatment, especially regards his breath, since he is receiving oxygen.

It might be just for content because since social media platforms got monetized, people do a lot of outrageous things just for it to go viral and they get engagement on their page. How can someone who is battling with his life still have the consciousness to play gamble. However, there are people that addiction has eaten so deep such that they can gamble under any circumstance. Have seen people who even use their phones to bet games while they are in the church or public places like inside a transportation bus. You see this thing called addiction, it's better not to even fall for it because you won't be able to help yourself even when you are in a conscious state.

That is not the peak of gambling addiction, maybe because he feels bored of being idle and cannot do any fun activities because he is recovering, so he chooses to gamble, because that is all he wants and can do at a time like that, the peak of addiction is when he spends his wealth on gambling, so he borrows from other people, I would say that people like that can be categorized as people who are at the peak of addiction, if it is only a case like this, it is still considered normal if your logic is in the right perspective.

First of all, the image posted isn't clear enough, we can't see what's on that phone screen to be sure the guy is actually betting, and though it does really look like he's sitting on a hospital bed, the blurry image won't allow someone like myself this to be sure..
I can't simply believe that he is on life support and gambling at the same time simply because the caption on the image said so, we live in an internet age where any body can form anything to get people's attention on social media.

But then, If it's actually true that this dude is indeed in a life support system in a hospital and still had the strength enough to focus this much on gambling, its possible that..
1. The illness that took him to the hospital isn't serious, maybe he is just receiving drip but lie that it's oxygen.
2. The fact he can't wait until he's regains good health and leave the hospital before he continues his gambling activities indicates or shows a high chances of gambling addiction.

You can not just tell from the picture that the situation the fellow is into is enough to completely deny him access to his phone. sometimes, when the medical procedure is not too extreme, patient are granted access to their mobile device and it is left for the family of the patient to help monitor the patient to be sure he is not doing things that might endanger his health. in most medical centers, patience are allowed to watch programs and given the remote control for them to even select the channel they are interested in watching.  that way, they relax more and do not have that chance to think a big deal of what they are currently going through. such thing can even help speed up recovery.

From the photo I could interpret many things, even if it were at the end of his life and he would like to bet "hoping" to leave a significant win to his loved ones? From this simple shot you can imagine different scenarios.
I never would have thought about addiction, but more emotional stories.
In his place, perhaps I would have done the same, thinking: do I have little left to live? What do I do? I try everything for everything.
But in this photo he doesn't seem to me to be in a disastrous clinical situation, even in the posture he assumes.

It means, the patient is still aware of what he's doing and not in really bad condition. Because if a person is already in bad shape, I don't think he will attend his betting activities. Because the first thing that he will surely do is just lay down and rest. But if not, it means, his health condition is not that bad that he can still bet at his own accord.
Some gambler can get some energy while betting, it is like their life line so to speak. They temporarily forget the pain they are feeling because they are focused in other things.

We can consider it a gambling addiction. When a gambler can no longer control themselves and assess the situation to keep gambling, it is already a form of gambling addiction. 
No matter how long you access it, you know you are having health problems and should be resting, not doing something else.

I just want to believe that the image was taken for social media contents or post.To me it's addiction. I don't see why anyone in a condition that already leads to staying in oxygen still be drawn to gamble.. like they say, there's time for everything.. lying on a sick bed and gambling doesn't speak good for such person.. we know the kind of emotional stress that comes with gambling. Such person can experience increased blood pressure while in such conditions that may lead to another problem in his health. You can't be that addicted to not knowing when to avoid gambling and rest the body till it recover.

We simply assumed, it was an addiction, because I felt he was pushing himself to gamble even when he was unwell. He should have recovered quickly, and I think he needed to calm his mind as part of his recovery. The risks of gambling while ill require calm, and we know that gambling carries risks that can disrupt calm, whether slight or significant. Therefore, we should only gamble when we are healthy and fit, and there is no need to force ourselves in every situation, especially when we are ill. That would reflect unhealthy gambling behavior, and could worsen his condition. He might even experience stress if he loses or suffers a loss.

As far as i know, that video has been posted a few years ago on x. It's also viral at that time. So i guess someone who recorded him was also similar with the site he played. It makes sense to assume he's gambling while he's in hospital.

Also it tells how that guy has reached a level where the addiction really damaged his brain. His gambling addiction already out of control. He's been caring more to his bankroll instead of his life. It's the peak tier of gambling addiction when someone was damaging himself but still gamble.
However, i could not put the blame on him since he might be in the need money of to pay his bill and oxygen at hospital.

Would you say he is addicted to tv, if he was watching tv instead while getting oxygen? Or being addicted to Coca-Cola if he was drinking that in hospital? Because i did several things in hospital to entertain myself. That doesn't mean i was doing that because i was addicted.

I wasn't gambling though, or writing in here but that was mainly because i was being responsible. I was drugged for operation, and result for me gambling while drugged wouldn't do anyone any good. I might have not even remembered if i did gamble as i was so out of it.

Just getting oxygen doesn't tell us anything. If anything, i would think to fix other life choices if it was for medical reasons.

Is he even getting oxygen at all? I thought people given oxygen in hospital, something is placed on their nose which can force the oxygen through their airways to the alveoli of the lungs. I am not seeing that thing on the patient nose. Another thing is that he is not in supine position but he is sitting on the hospital bed.

I don't really know if this is a skit or something because judging with the background it doesn't actually look like the dude is using oxygen to survive in other words this looks like a joke or a comedy to me. Moreover, if someone is having a serious health challenge playing bet or gambling is not healthy for such person because a lot of things can happen and it can result to some complications in the body and ordinarily this is suppose to be an addiction because someone whose heath  is not good should be thinking on how to get well.

I think that when a person doesn’t know how long they have left to live, in order not to be left alone with heavy thoughts and the stress that comes with this burden, they need something to distract themselves. Something that can entertain them, help shift their focus to something else, something that can even be done while sitting or lying in a hospital bed. Gambling can become such a refuge. The most important thing is that this pastime does not turn into an addiction with financial problems, since such a person already has plenty of other things they need to spend money on.
