I am always not of the opinion we should take loans to build a house. If your capital is not enough, use what you have to start something. One good thing about building is, the materials are not perishable. They are things yu can keep in the store for a very long time pending on when you're ready to use. It also don't easily depreciate in value and it can be used for another plan which fits into the original plan. So, you will hardly lose out. I've taken building as something you develop slowly but steadily especially when it is your goal but you don't have the capital to implement it fully yet. It's by earning a good amount of money, trust me, house is no more something you can say that you will be funding once in a year like some people did, they were lucky to have done it when things was not as tough as it is today.

My wife and I bought a house togehter... her money & my money. And we bought a house close to the city, which is a lot cheaper. We went for an older house (cheaper option for many reasons) and since we bought it we are doing some works around the house (new roof, windows, doors, isolations, heating for the entire house...)... We have done a lot of things, but it's still not over.

Some reasons why people rent a home is work you can working in a place far from your family house going from home may cause more money and only option is renting and apartment, also there are people who leaves their comfort zone just to make a living.

Doesn't that depend where you want to buy that house from? I mean you can buy a house for pretty much nothing from some shrinking towns.

Houses on growing towns on the other hand are these days are growing more in value then people's salaries. It used to be affordable to buy them, but land and property owners want more profit and money that people earn from work is worth less and less.

Also young people don't often have high salaries or huge savings that they could afford to keep a house, even if they managed to buy one. And at least many of my friends don't want to be stuck with houses that they constantly need to fix. It might make more sense financially to rent a home.
