Assuming the story talked about how he was forced to transfer all the assets that he holds in crypto, then we could have said it's because of his loud mouth that attracts the attention to him, but in this case, those people could just be regular thugs who don't know he is even involved in crypto but fish him out to be their target based on his dressing, and it appears some people wear expensive jewelry, which puts attention on them without them even realizing it's not always about announcing that you are rich, but moving into a clubhouse or a busy area with a wristwatch worth millions of naira already makes you a public target by those who could identify what you wear.

I might’ve shared some stories long ago on x one time, I kind of had a friend like that which he was to opened mouthed all the time infact it got to an extent where every single thing he does on his wallet he like to share it on he whatapp and as God would have it he was been robbed on a spot and his phone and so many others property where been collected, and only that turn he and teaching lessons and I guess since then he has never share thing like bitcoin or any digital currencies online again, so I think most people need to pass through such kind of experience before they would learn and start keeping things to there self.

Another tragedy in my hood has just sparked mixed reactions accross my neighborhood this morning. Their is this guy in my neighborhood though he's not a close friend of mine but he has always being showing his self to be a Bitcoin boss in my area and people have been according him that respect to be someone that's doing well (financially) and it is very obvious so to speak.

This morning the news we are hearing is that he was robbed last night when going out to have fun being valentine's day, at the process maybe he was trying to resist or acting stubborn one of the guy (robbers) stabbed him at his back for them to be able to collect all his valuables that was on him but I guess he was later rush to the hospital.

I do not think his crypto holding will be among what was stolen from him with the way OP explained it, someone that is not willing to give them anything was stabbed and they collected his valuables. Keeping a low profile can save us from lot of unseen eyes and negativity. You said it all, it hard to set a trap for someone we know nothing about and keeping such low profile will saves us a lot of trouble because people will find it difficult to know anything about but when we raise our shoulder and acts arrogantly and feel too proud of ourselves then easily people can have bad intentions towards us.
